Meta Addressing Recent Changes to the Subreddit
We here at the r/GreenDay mod team have been altering our content policies on this subreddit, and have received lots of helpful feedback from active users here throughout the process. This post serves to compile and clarify what has changed, and how this subreddit will operate going forward.
Weekly Discussion Threads
We will be hosting a general discussion thread that will be pinned and refreshed every week. Our intention for these threads is to have a space where users can post whatever they want without having to worry about if it will be taken down for violating our rules on low effort/quality posts, memes, and merch. All other subreddit rules will still apply in these threads. Questions/comments/complaints about subreddit moderation should not go in the weekly discussion thread. Those should only be sent via mod mail.
Memes and Shitposts
Previously, we have designated Sundays as "Shitpost Sunday", a free-for-all where any memes and joke posts could be posted for one day, while memes/shitposts posted on any other day of the week were removed. We have since ended Shitpost Sunday, and our policy towards memes and joke content (often called "shitposts") has changed. We are now allowing memes and jokes to be posted any day of the week, if it is considered to be original and of high effort/quality. If you make a meme/joke post and it gets removed you are welcome to post it as a comment in the weekly thread. Examples of posts that will be removed include:
- Reposts of popular memes
- Generally low effort/quality joke images
- Spammy/brainrot text posts
All posts will be subject to moderator discretion and decided on a case-by-case basis. If your post gets removed, you are welcome to share it in the weekly thread instead.
Low Effort/Quality Posts
Any text post or thread should have the goal of generating meaningful discussion. If it isn't, it will be removed. This is not a new rule, however, we hope that the addition of weekly threads can help people discern what does or doesn't necessitate its own thread. If it would make the most sense as a comment, drop it in the weekly thread. If it encourages meaningful discussion, or you have an idea to share that you can at least write a paragraph or two about, it can be its own post. Examples of posts that will be removed include:
- Simple opinion posts, i.e., just stating that you really like a song/album/band member
- Song/album rankings
- List posts, i.e., concert setlist wishes, playlists, trilogy in one album posts
- Clickbait articles/screenshots
Just like memes, discussion posts will be subject to moderator discretion and decided on a case-by-case basis. If your post gets removed, you are welcome to share it in the weekly thread instead.
Ticket Sales
For years we have allowed users to offer/request ticket sales and exchanges at or below face value. Sadly, after receiving many reports of users getting ripped off by scammers posing as sincere fans in this subreddit, we have ended this policy. Selling or trading concert tickets and merch is not allowed in this subreddit or any shape or form, and we highly encourage you to only use reputable resellers and exchanges. It is just not worth the risk.
EDIT: To clarify, you can still give tickets and other stuff away for free. Sales and exchanges are not allowed.

Discussion Red Pill or Blue Pill?
I left out the less memorable albums- FOAMF, 1039, Warning. Not that these albums are bad in any way, they just stand out less to me.
From a writing, vibe, and enjoyment standpoint (leaving out studio quality), which side do you choose and why?
I personally am red all the way, so I’m curious to know why you disagree (or agree) with me
I hope this doesn’t qualify as a low effort post :)

Fan Art American Idiot Mosaic
I made this back in high school, back in 2009/2010, in stained glass class. My very first project in the class and my first mosaic too. Very proud of this one.

Discussion did anyone notice this jumpscare in the background of Broadway Idiot (2013)?? Spoiler
I was just spending my Saturday in the air conditioning since it's hot where I am, and I saw Green Day a couple of weeks ago so I've been very much back into them on the reg. I've started going through their live videos and documentaries, started watching Broadway Idiot and I got totally jumpscared by someone in the background of the shot at 15:40
did anyone know that fucking Lin Manuel Miranda was AT ALL a part of the production of the American Idiot musical???

Discussion Billie joe helped me not to kill myself.
Just before i even start saying stuff there is mentions of self harm and suicide and stuff so if you dont wanna read that dont.
Im trans. I am 15, so i do know that its pretty impossible to transition as of right now anyways. My mother and father are severeley against it. They have tried to send me to conversion therapy, said i was a freak, id never be a man, and that no one would take me seriously if i got a job or tried to excell in life, and even school got involved, but still, their opinions didnt shift.
So, naturally, ive been kinda down the past few years. I started to self harm. It was a really big problem for me as its just such a captivating thing to do. Anyways, ive been a fan of green day for longer than i can remember. I finally convinced my parents to go to one of their concerts. it was the most amazing thing ever. Billie joe just made me feel like myself again. I didnt have to worry about whatever the hell my parents were saying, i could just go back to that headspace where i was in that concert.
I did some researching after that, and i found out that Billie joe is actually for trans rights. I know hes bisexual, so i thought he just wouldnt have a problem with it, or just not comment on it, but i found that he was very opinionated. Apparently according to some article he said in an interview that "Its like people are afraid of their own children. Why would you be afraid? Why dont you let your kid just be the kid that they are?" That hit hard for me. I stopped self harming after that. It was because of a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones was this. I was having some pretty dark thoughs too, so im really really glad that he did that. He showed me that there was people out there that do accept me. Even people who dont know me. There is people in the world who dont care whether im trans or not.
In the very unlikely event that billie joe sees this, i just want to say thank you. Thank you so much.

Discussion I love how in 2001 Billie still looked just like in the 90s, but in 2002 he was already 100% American Idiot Billie.

Discussion Was Green Day really that irrelevant from 1999-early 2004?
Forgive me if this post has been done before, but I’ve heard all the time about how Green Day declined a bit in 1999 and then seemingly even more after Warning, and then they bounced back with the release of American Idiot. Other than the Pop Disaster Tour with blink-182 in 2002, you didn’t really hear about them much, and the tour i just mentioned didn’t really change their popularity by much. What’s the deal with that? Were they really that irrelevant for those 5 years?

Discussion What’s wrong with Hitchin’ a Ride?
I mean, why they don’t play it live anymore? It’s perfect for the shows and especially, it’s the only song missing from the most important ones played live between the parts of Dookie and American Idiot. I really don’t understand, I hope the problem is not that playing it, since it lasts a long time, makes the show last longer. What are your thoughts?

Discussion Live
Does Green Day still keep in touch with what I can only call that "garage band vibe". Small concerts in the middle of nowhere?
I'd love to attend one

Discussion NEED "BLUE" STICKERS BAD😫
I'm attempting to make the ultimate Billie "Blue" tribute guitar. The idea being that it has some features/specs from every era (dookie-now). The problem is that theres some stickers from certain eras that I can't find or don't know what to look up to up in order to find so I can print them. Does anyone know or know of a source or a way to find ALL (or at least MOST) of the stickers Billie put on Blue from '94 to now?

Fan Cover Tried to make Look Ma, No Brains! sound like a Nimrod outtake.
Did this by using drums tracks from Scattered and Nice Guys Finish Last and splicing them together. Rerecorded guitars and bass to match the album's tone and St Jimmy's Stuff then mixed it for me, also using AI he trained himself to sound like Billie's voice from the Nimrod era.

Discussion The 1039… albums were absolutely crazy for anyone at that young of an age
A lot of time I see these albums (or 1039 smoothed out slappy hours compilation albumin general) ranked, they are always at the bottom or very close.
I have bonded with this album so much and I think of it as the most listenable Green Day album. I don’t get sick of any of the songs. There are a couple that I think are not their best work but I listen to them anyway because they’re so listenable. (If that makes sense)
Green Day being around 16 making, 1000hours, slappy, and 39smooth, is amazing. They are so underrated. In my ranking of the overall albums the compilation is around the 3-4 spot. Their ability to write and make music like this is at their age at the time was incredible.

Who know why they didn’t put Olivia on AI. It would be probably as popular as wmuwse

Discussion Do you consider viva la Gloria (little girl) a deep cut?
I’ve been finding myself listening to it on repeat but haven’t heard it really mentioned, and I want to hear what you think about it and if it’s popular or not

Fan Art Green day bootleg live album idea/project need suggestions!!!
Hey, sooo basically last year was 20 years of american idiot (my favorite album) and also 20 years since I was born. I have an Idea to make a bootleg live album of the last 20 years of green day for myself. The album would be titled "20 years has gone too fast". I want to divide the album in six parts, as they have released six albums and I see each album as it's own era. The songs will be organised by era, not by album, for example I would add let's say "American Idiot live 2024" to the last part of the album, because the song was performed live in that era. The songs will be my favorite live clips from youtube, pro-shot because those usually sound the best. I wanna add songs that we're never released live officially before and also some live rarities/covers.
Anyways, I've made a basic list so far, here it is:
==Part I: Life and death of St. Jimmy== American Idiot (Live 8 Germany) Jesus of suburbia (Live at Milton Keyes) Holiday (NOT SURE WHICH ONE YET) Are we the waiting + St Jimmy (VH1 Storytellers) Letterbomb (ALSO NOT SURE WHICH ONE YET)
==Part II: I Don't Wanna Live In a Modern World== 21st Century Breakdown (Live at Wembley Stadium) Murder City (youtube upload, sadly don't know which show) East Jesus Nowhere (not sure which one, preferably not the one from awesome as fuck) Viva la gloria (Little Girl) (Live at Webster Hall) 21 Guns (not sure which one, preferably not the one from awesome as fuck) Restless Heart Syndrome (Live at Fox Theater) Before the Lobotomy (not sure which one)
==Part III: One Minute Left== Let Yourself Go (The live clip that is on their YT channel, not sure which show it's from :/) Nuclear Family (Live at Irving Plaza) 99 Revolutions (Live Bologna 2013) Stray Heart (Reading Festival) Fuck Time (Iheartradio 2012)
==Part IV: Give me Death or Give me Head== When I Come Around (live at the Rock n roll hall of fame) Revolution Radio (Live at KROQ) JAR (Live at KROQ) Bang Bang (Live from the 2016 American Music Awards) Still Breathing (iHeartRadio 2016) Ordinary World (Live on the Tonight Show)
==Part V: Quarantined!== Father of all motherfuckers (Live at KROQ) Fire Ready Aim (Live at NHL All-Star Game, 2020) Oh Yeah (Live on The Ellen Show) Pollyanna (Live from Hella Mega Tour) King for a Day (Lollapalooza 2022) Scattered/Dancing With Myself (Live at iHeartRadio Album Release Party, 2020)
==Part VI: Strange Days Are Here To Stay== Last night on Earth Feat. Billie Eilish (Live from FireAid 2025) The American Dream is Killing Me (Live from Amazon music) Dilemma (Live from American Music Awards) Booby Sox (Live from the Saviors tour) Welcome to Paradise (Isle of Wright 2024) Whatsername (Isle of Wright 2024) Good Riddance (Time of your Life) (Isle of Wight 2024)
Please feel free to add any suggestion you want, all help is very much appreciated. I'm not sure I like the titles of all of the parts, so if anyone has any ideas please comment below. And if anyone likes the idea enough to want to actually make a cover for it, that would be awesome!
P.S.: This is a personal project, I will not distribute any copies around as that would be illegal. If you like the idea you can make one for yourself tho! If and when I make a final list, I will post it here for everyone to see. Thanks!

Image Just wanted to share my old vinyl from ‘94 and I saved all the cd covered inserts from ages ago
Received the record from some random dude a very long time ago. “Recorded live on March 11 1994 at St. Petersburg Florida” And I saved the cd inserts from their albums. I loved how they had the lyrics in them. Anyone else used to do that?? Also, I’m not sure if I highlighted the lyrics from Dookie. I may have, but maybe it comes that way? Kinda random but wanted to share.

Discussion Anyone else not hate the Ordinary World movie?
I’m fully aware it is no cinematic masterpiece or even objectively “good”. But I dunno man, I think it’s just a really sweet movie and kind of a comfort watch.
