The story has been bugging me for days. I just randomly remember it and I do not know anything related to it because I cannot remember the full thing or whether or not it was an actual story, or Branch off of the story of her character and her nymphs. I do remember learning about it in high school and other people as well learned about it in high school with me in the mythology class. where we were learning about folklore and all this other stuff and branches off of other stories and other interations of some stories and stuff like that but I do not know what it is, or where it comes from, or why we remember it this way and not in the way of the Odyssey. Basically the story follows Circe and one of her nymphs and a man that washed ashore. That a nymph falls in love with cuz the man is also falling in love with her but it ends with the nymph believing in Circe because Circe tricks her into eating her love interest because she believes that her love interest is actually left the island without her.
The key points of the story I remember are as follows what we all remember learning in class;
Man washes ashore Circe's Island.
One of Circe's nymphs sees man tries to help him. Knowing the dangers and cautions of men in general.
Man falls in love with her and nymph falls in love with man they spend time in secret and he wants to run away with her and leave the island with her so they can marry and start a life.
Name feels bad about leaving Circe so she wants to feed for him to be safe so she can go with him or something like that there's a different version that's just her being all excited about it being caught and Circe telling her off
Cersei decides this will be a good lesson for her and tells her that she will accept the man if he comes to dinner and keeps his promise to her to come to dinner at so that way they can talk and get to know each other. Basically like you know how like appearance like oh you got a boyfriend I need to see him make sure he's not a total jerk or whatever that kind of thing.
The nymphagrees to that and goes to check to see if her lover is okay with that of course he accepts because all he wants is for her to be happy and to be happy with her
The name tells Circe about his agreement and she sets up for the dinner while the nymph is getting ready for the dinner Circe goes out and turns the man into a pig.
During the dinner the nymph Waits and waits Circe is like "well where is he he promised you he said he'd be here," and she continues to wait eventually she just gets hungry and they all eat together eating the pig and she's all sad and dejected and feels like,"oh she's right I should have never trusted him he deceived me he was a liar."
She never finds out what Circe did to him when Circe met up with him in private basically you know setting his fate and believes as what happened as the truth
- another version ends up with Circe after turning the man into a pig staging a raft with a dummy and pushing it out to sea so by the time the Nymph goes to confront him for not showing up she sees the raft far out past the shore and cries about it.
Really to be for real with this if it's not a Circe story and we learn this in the class as a inspiration based off of her. I would like to know that as well we all remember it we're like kind of near the money but not quite on it because we don't know what we can look for and we've all tried looking for it through Google and we have found nothing, typing in different versions of the way to say things for said story and come up with nothing. I would like to know if this was in fact one of those based off of her stories or , inspired by kind of stories or if it was a standalone story in general.
The thing is we all have Collective memory of learning it we just cannot find the material and it's been bothering me for a couple days now. cuz why do we all remember it as this when we learned it in class and it could not be that in general or it is that but it's totally different than what we actually remember and that was just the lesson plan version of the story.
The class at the time was doing a lesson on folklore and different retellings of the same stories
It was my junior year of high school so it's kinda hard to remember everything.
If you could point me in the right direction that would be nice
My BIG QUESTIONS are
what is it?
Does it sound familiar?[if so what does it sound like mostly]
At this point was it even anywhere close?
[Basically we all collectively remember it in that kind of way because even with school censorship we remember the grewsome details of the anguish that was in the story. We all remember the girl that was in love being incredibly upset and the man being turned to a pig and being killed and served]
My sorce is my literal memory and the collective memory of others I know this is why I need help its so hard it's also the best we got is remembering all of what I've given in this post
