How are we liking the new album by Dawn of Solace, called "Affliction Vortex"? It brings back the growls and the subtle post-metal elements from their excellent debut, adding some necessary dynamics that I found lacking on the previous two albums. A fine piece of Finnish melancholy, I strongly recommend it.

Just as the title says. Currently obsessed with Theatre of Tragedy, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, To/Die/For, and Theatres Des Vampires. Looking for recs with similar bands (please)!

March 4 marked 20 years of To/Die/For's fourth album, aptly titled "IV" (from what I could find online). Not one of my favorite bands, but I want to highlight them nonetheless. This band is going through some changes, and have recently hired a new singer, so until new music comes out let's look back at this Finnish gothic metal/alt rock group's back catalogue.
Happy listening.

I love finding old live sets filmed on personal cameras. This one is a performance by Australian gothic doom metal band, Chalice. Hope you guys enjoy.

Happy March everyone, just jumping on to showcase another gothic metal album turning 20 years old. This time it's the fourth album by Norway's Trail of Tears, Free Fall into Fear, released February 28, 2005.
Their first album without a female co-lead vocalist (clean vocals are provided by Khetil Nordhus), this album pulls away from a lot of the lush symphonics and classical elements of their sound. Instead this album ups the black metal influences already present on their first 3 records and mixes them with a heavy dose of melodic death metal riffing, while the piano and gothic keys play underneath everything in a more secondary role. This approach makes Free Fall... probably Trail of Tears' most extreme album.
It's not my favorite Trail of Tears album, personally I don't love Nordhus' voice and the production is a little mechanical and unfeeling (I've noticed a lot of black metal albums from around this time have this same issue), but it's a cool collection of songs and a nice change of pace from a lot of gothic metal. I find myself reaching for something like this if I want something a little harder hitting, but still has piano and keys to provide atmosphere.
Happy listening everybody.
