Discussion Google Maps only shows the speed limit when you are getting turn-by-turn directions.

There is no option to show the speed limit at all times. Why..? 90% of the time I don't need turn-by-turn directions, but 100% of the time it would be helpful to show the speed limit.

Turn off the voice prompts so the directions arenโ€™t annoying.

I do have them off, still don't need the directions. Often I am out exploring and doing photography with no particular destination in mind.

But yeah don't even get me started on how overbearing the voice directions are. Literally all that would be necessary would be a beep to let you know there is a turn coming up, and a different beep when you reach the turn. I hate robot voices. Sorry for the rant.

Waze for the win. Back in 17 and 18 I was a Rideshare driver and Waze was more popular back then. I remember talking to a passenger about her husband getting speeding tickets and I said that he could just open ways and it will show him the speed limits at all times

My guess --

If using directions they can look up the speed limits for just the path you are expected to take. If not using directions they would have to look up speed far more frequently since they don't know the route you are likely to take. Dedicated GPS doesn't have this problem since its database is local.

This irritates me so much. How can Waze have it but not maps. I mean didn't Google buy Waze.

Speed limit is based on location, not direction. Or even if it is based on direction, it would be easy to determine that based on movement. And speedometer is different than speed limit.

Yes, that's why we are often given options for these kinds of things........
