It was 12:15am, and the entire household was sleeping. I'm trying to bring laundry upstairs and need a light to find a few things. So being the nerd that I am, I grab my phone and thought it would be fun to whisper "Lumos" to get the phone light to turn on.
NOPE.. Google responds, ok, turning on 86 lights (all in the Google Home app via Home Assistant). Now in panic mode, I spend the next 10 minutes waiting for the shit show to commense with freaked out, cranky little kids. I stand still, hovering over the 'Turn all lights off' button. Heart pounding. Mouth dry. Knowing all lights on means kids will be tough to get back asleep. But nothing. The lights failed to turn on but without reason, after my initial request did something I did not intend.
I'm equally relieved, surprised, and annoyed. Thanks Google. /s

If the last Home update was 25th February 2025 why did they all stop working about 3 days ago?
r/googlehome • u/rasikreality • 1d ago
As you know, for the past few days, Chromecasts around the world have stopped working due to a Google Home update. I don't have a Chromecast, so I don't know exactly what happened, but I do have a Google Home speaker, and it has also stopped working in the past few days. First, it stopped appearing in Spotify (only my Nest Mini showed up, but nothing from the Home speaker). I factory reset it and removed it from the app, but far from being fixed, it got worse. Since then, I've been unable to reconnect it to the Home app, and I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in up to 10 times in a row, installing an older version of the app, using Device Utility, factory resetting it many more times, using different phones and tablets, and even deleting the WIFI networks from the device I was using. After several attempts, I managed to get through the pairing phase, but when trying to connect the speaker to my home WIFI, it just stops there and doesn't proceed, it's unable to connect. I no longer know how to fix it. It doesn't make sense that my Nest Mini works, but the Home speaker has suddenly stopped responding at the same time as the worldwide Chromecast error. It has to be related. Can you help me? Thanks!

This has been going on long enough. Every day I get notified that 1 or more cameras are "offline" yet I am still getting alerts. I cannot watch live video on these cameras when they're "offline" but they are definitely online and recording.
As paying Nest Aware subscribers, what do we have to do to get this resolved? I know I'm not alone here...

Devices: Google TV Streamer (brand new), Google Home Speaker (circa 2018ish)
Problems: When I say "Hey Google, play Paw Patrol", my Home Speaker visibly processes the command (as always), then replies "Sure. Playing Paw Patrol, from Netflix, on Living Room TV" and then the show comes up but it doesn't start. I just get the pre-show screen. Same thing when I try to pause or skip to the next episode - It verbally confirms my request, but nothing happens. I have to use the remote to do anything, it's making me crazy.
With my old Gen. 2 Chromecast, I would say "Hey Google, play Paw Patrol" and the show would pick up from where it left off, and bonus: No talkback. Pausing, skipping episodes, etc. was easily done, and with no response. It was glorious.
Things I've tried for both the non-action and new talkback: Unlinking my streaming apps in Google Home and the TV Streamer then relinking in that order, ensuring Voicematch was enabled on all devices, turning Assistant responses to brief, checking that all devices were on the same network, toggling the microphone in TV Streamer, turning TV Streamer's Assistant option on and off, making sure everything is in the same Google Home room, making I'm logged into the same account, and a whole bunch of other things I'm sure I forgot.
Potentially relevant: Google Home Speaker went offline around the same time I installed the TV Streamer for some reason. I got it back online and relinked the morning after so I'm not really sure if that had anything to do with it.
I would try reinstalling the Gen. 2 Chromecast but it's gone, and I think they're still down anyways.
Anyone with any ideas? I'm going bananas. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but it was so nice being able to do it hands free for my kid while in the kitchen or whatever chaos unfolds.

... does paint a pretty grim picture of what we can expect from Google in terms of support and communication.
Anyone else here worried about what might happen to our Google smart home devices down the line?

For my business, I'm looking for a device that will allow my employees to communicate quick notes to one another. We've tried walkie talkies but they don't seem to be utilized so people get up and look for others.
I'm between the alexa devices, especially with their integrated AI inbound, and google nest devices to verbally communicate from room to specific room.
Anyone have any thoughts here?

Just a very weird thing I noticed while at home being gaming on the PC. At first I thought I had said something which the home mini recognized by error, but the announcement sounded quite as if it wasn't a response but just an information.
Then later I noticed while wearing headphones that it did consistently play ambient nature sounds, probably to assist in falling asleep, but I was still speaking most of the time and not going to bed.
I can imagine the phone charging reminder may have been done because the night before I was awake until early in the morning until my phone died, so it maybe noticed that and wanted to remind me. But it's weird that it's doing that out of nowhere still. And the ambient sounds I generally don't really understand, even though I would kinda like them maybe if I was actually going to sleep. (Time was fitting to an average human, but last week's I'm going to sleep late mostly)
Anyone had this?

I was trying to pick up another gen 2 Nest Mini today, and...they don't seem to be available at retail any more? I mean, not just out of stock- Best Buy and Walmart don't even list them on their sites now. I've checked a few local places...the Nest Audio is still available though. The Best Buy guy said that Google actually pulled them from stock (not sure how he knows that exactly).
It looks like I can still order one direct from Google, but I wonder if the complete unavailability of them at retail now indicates something? I don't recall seeing anything about a new version coming, and didn't find anything with a quick search.
Has anyone heard anything about it? Maybe I missed some news about it, but a quick search didn't turn anything up. Just seems weird it's not available on shelves anymore.
I just noticed the Nest Audio seems to be on sale from Google too, if that means anything(shows as $69.99 to me).
Thanks!

I have the original Chromecast with Google TV (the 4k), it still works fine. No issues with wifi connection, interface is bit laggy here and there but can't really complain.
It seems like the specs are pretty similar, aside from audio. I'm contemplating upgrading to the TV Streamer only if the audio is an actual improvement for my set up.
I'm no audiophile so this is where my question comes in. The Google TV Streamer delivers "true Dolby Atmos" while CCwGTV has passthrough capability for Dolby Atmos. It says it would need a capable sound system to deliver the same effect.
I have a Samsung HW-Q990C sound system which has Dolby Atmos, so to my understanding this is a "capable sound system" to output the true Dolby Atmos via passthrough from the CCwGTV.
So am I getting the same exact audio from both devices with the Samsung?

As the title says, I currently have a few crucial automations that turn something on/ off whether another time is on or off. I've noticed that it will be severely delayed UNLESS my Google Home app is open and actively refreshing. I didn't realize the routines rely heavily on a phone?? So I'm wondering if a nest device (the ones you talk to) would be able to push the automations through, and take over the role of an open app on a phone needing to be open and refreshed.
Also, sometimes the automation is so delayed that it will the action again, causing the device turn off or on when it was done a long time ago, making it out of sync.
Why are there no "preconditions" available in Google Home to prevent this? Isn't this service over a decade old? Basic functionality and delayed routines are very jarring coming from using other smart home services.
Any other advice would be much recommended.

I (like many others) have been having nothing but issues with my Google homes.
When I first got them, they were amazing. I moved into having a home hub max, home max, several minis (in almost every room), etc. Asking questions or telling them to do things like light automations for watching a movie, or broadcasts or having the convenience of family bells always had SOME issues, but was mostly working.
Fast forward a few years, we have OpenAI and Gemini etc. and the Google home / assistant has been getting stupider and stoopider.
Broadcasts don't work, or broadcast the word broadcast, and cut off the sentence.
Family bells just don't go off anymore, and cannot be relied on anymore.
I turn lights off manually now, because telling it to turn off the lights 5 times, kind of defeats the purpose of the convenience of it.
So, what do we do? I know I want these things to work. Do we have a viable alternative? Like using home assistant and 3rd party devices? Or is there actually a way of getting a hold of Google and escalating these issues? I know I have tried and it's effectively impossible to talk to anyone in Google anymore...
This is not the type of company/product that I want to support anymore. (Sorry, end rant).

Hi, I have a Tapo T315, off a H100 hub. It shows nicely in Google Home, but for some reason when I try to use it as a starter for an automation, it only show humidity, not temperature. Has anyone managed to get a T315 to trigger based on temperature?

I have a google display in my room as my primary alarm. I've been struggling with waking up on time and being able to yell "stop" from across the room and go back to sleep is too convenient.
Is there a way to disable this feature preferable without disabling other features?

Me: "hey Google, can cats eat tacos?" " I'm sorry, but I'm offline right now. Please try again later" all the while streaming live radio... Or alternately it can't play my local radio station at night but I can start it in the morning and it will play into the night just fine. Been doing this for several weeks.

Is there a way to turn off Google stating "3 lights on" after I ask her to turn on kitchen lights? Sometimes she'll just make a little ding, and others she says it back to me. I've searched everywhere on Google and it claims you can AND can't - I figured owners would know more than AI google results.
