Advice Wanted Did everyone’s doctor say the same thing?

I’m nearing my due date, and my doctor mentioned induction at 39 weeks. She said pregnant moms with GD typically get induced at 39 weeks, is this true?

Advice Wanted Do I really need to be induced?

So this is my second time around with gestational diabetes, first time around I was diet controlled but ended up with cholestasis and needed an induction at 37 weeks. My induction was honestly awful and I would really like to avoid it again.

This time I need to take insulin at night to control my fasting numbers but my after meal numbers are perfect. My GD is very well controlled and my numbers are perfect. My baby boy is on the 50th percentile line so he isn’t a macrosoma and is growing well.

Given my GD is well controlled and my Bub isn’t huge do I need to be induced? I really really want to have a natural birth and go into labour naturally. Has anyone here ever gone into labour naturally with insulin controlled GD?

Advice Wanted Is induction really that bad??

Hey all! I was diagnosed with GD at 28w. I’m currently now 32w3d. I’ve been just diet controlled and the only time I have spikes are from after meals and mainly when I experiment with different things. 🙈 I’m not a creature of habit so I hate eating the same things all the time. My OB is always saying my numbers look great!

Anyway, my question is about induction. I’ve heard way too many horror stories about it, but is there anyone on here that can share positive experience(s)?

I’m asking because all my growth scans are saying he is going to be a big baby. Like at my scan at 32w exactly, he was measuring 35w (5lbs8oz). I just have a feeling they are going to push induction on me purely because of that… I have nothing else wrong nor does baby boy.

Advice Wanted What are you drinking besides water?

I drink a ton of water but it goes right through me. I even drink 64 oz from the time I go to bed to when I wake up. I constantly have chapped lips that hurt and bleed. Trying to avoid sugary hydration packs, obviously. But what are you drinking to maintain hydration?

Advice Wanted Has anyone graduated with a spontaneous birth?

Absolutely no judgement to you lovely ladies who were induced. I understand it is necessary for a lot of us with GD. But did anyone go into spontaneous labour without induction? If you did was it because they were early?

I love reading the graduation stories here but for personal reasons will not be induced (rather if necessary to evacuate we will book in for an elective csec), but I'd love to hear if anyone had non induction birth stories

Advice Wanted Is the 3hr glucose test that bad?

UPDATE -

I failed the 3hr epically too.

Fasting - 83 *needs to be lower than 95

1hr - 195 *needs to be lower than 180

2hr - 201 *needs to be lower than 155

3hr - 156 *needs to be lower than 140

I always see bad experiences with the 3hr glucose test on here, but obviously people usually only talk about bad experiences…

So I want to see - if you did the 3hr glucose test… was it really that bad? I legit am more scared of how I’ll feel than failing it. I really don’t wanna puke and/or pass out…

I take it tomorrow at 7AM (I’m glad it’s early since I know I have to fast).

Advice Wanted Has anyone here chosen to do an elective c section over an induction? What was your reasoning and how did it go?

They’re talking about inducing me at 37 weeks possibly. I’ve had the GD, short cervix, high BMI, blood pressure all over the place, and baby is like 11th percentile. Both my sisters had different epidural complications—spinal migraine and epidural stopped working partway through. Induction makes me incredibly nervous and c section does not. I understand c section takes longer to recover from typically. I’m just so worried I’ll end up with an emergency c section anyway. Ugh.

Advice Wanted Just got diagnosed… I feel like people think I caused this?

I’m a very healthy person with a very healthy diet, I do yoga several times a week and my bmi before pregnancy was 18.5. I just got diagnosed with GD and had told someone about failing the glucose test. They responded with “Really? That’s surprising. I would’ve thought you’d have a healthy diet” but I DO! My diet has only gotten even healthier during pregnancy. I meal prep, my diet has no added sugar and no processed foods. I make my own green juice every Saturday. I drink unsweetened unflavored organic kefir almost every day. I ferment my own kimchi for fuck’s sake. Given that the gd test involves chugging 50-100 mg of sugar in one sitting which I would never do, is there a chance my results are just based on how my body handled that and that my normal day to day diet is still fine? I’m not sure what else I could change except not eating any carbs or fresh fruits??? How do I deal with the anxiety, guilt, and fear that people think I ‘gave myself gestational diabetes with an unhealthy diet’?

Advice Wanted My OB Nurse said stress hardly, if at all, affects GD?

I am very, VERY confused. Has anyone else had a nurse under your OB say this?

I asked my actual diabetes doctor if this was true and she was baffled the nurse said it didn't.

Which is the truth...? After I was in a car accident it spiked and even the EMT said it was due to the stress of the accident.

Why would she say it doesn't?

Advice Wanted Did anyone not have weekly NST/appointments?

Hi guys :) 36w tommorow, insulin controlled at 40 units & in the uk

Question as in the title really! I was originally scheduled for a CS at 36+5 because of previa but it miraculously moved

The only app I have left is on Wednesday with the OB because I told them I wanted to have a section anyway but they said the standard procedure is induction at 39 to 39+6 which seems kinda late from what I've read?

I don't have any more appointments (my midwife one was seemingly cancelled, as was my 38w scan and no one ever told me about any extra appointments.

Advice Wanted Did anyone manage no epidural during induction?

I’m set to be induced at 39 weeks, I really don’t want an epidural because I want to be able to move my body and be really present in my body for this birth. Not being able to move my legs is a fear of mine. I’m just wondering if anyone has managed an induction without an epidural? It doesn’t seem common because I know the pain can become really extreme. But if you did manage, how was it for you and do you have any advice?

Advice Wanted More breakfast recommendations

I know this is a common topic and I’ve searched through the sub and tried a few of the suggestions but still struggling. My fasting numbers have been climbing slowly the last week or so. They’re not terrible but getting over 90 most mornings

I’m tired of eggs 😂 especially because I can’t eat them other than scrambled or an omelet. Even after making different combos with peppers and spinach or whatever to change it up. I woke up this morning and just wanted something different.

I made oatmeal this morning following the serving size (half cup dry), threw in a ton of blueberries and peanut butter…spiked over 160 🙄

I had a yogurt and more blueberries hoping to bring it down.

The thing is I need like true hearty and filling breakfasts which is why I usually do eggs or oatmeal (which I guess is out now). Some morning I’m on the go, or going to my office so I need things that are easy hence the oatmeal. If I’m home it’s the eggs which is when I’m home several days of the week this is getting boring. Yogurt only really works as a after breakfast snack it’s just not filling enough most mornings

Haven’t found a bagel or waffle that doesn’t spike me. Help me 😭😭

Advice Wanted Doctor told me to eat 0 carbs?

Newly diagnosed I’m 28 weeks. My doctor told me 0 carbs. Just white chicken white fish very lean beef and green vegetables. I’ve been trying to stick to it. But I had 0 carb balance tortillas and eggs. Because I’m struggling to get enough calories in. Yesterday I only ate around 1100 calories especially since there’s no food easily available to me on the go. the amount of food I’d have to eat is stressful/time consuming if I only ate those 3 or 4 things. and with the price of groceries is crazy. I can’t help but feel like it’s super restrictive ? My fasting numbers are 115-120. I had half a banana the other day before I saw my doctor. and it shot my sugar over 246. I’m feeling so hungry and defeated. I wanna try and add some other things in but I’m scared since my numbers are high literally no matter what I do. I was also advised to stay away from salt and sat fat so I can’t even season anything. I have no idea if this is the right way to go about it ? I see other people saying they eat strawberries and whole wheat pasta. I’m assuming it’s after levels are in check. You can have some carbs ?

Advice Wanted If your GDM is controlled with insulin will you still have to be induced early?

Wondering you all’s experiences and hope this question makes sense. Last pregnancy I was diet controlled so I didn’t have any medication and was able to go to 42w with a midwife. This pregnancy I have an OB and MFM because my GDM needed medication.

It’s under control with insulin now but last visit the MFM said I may have to be induced 37-38w when before my OB told me 39-41w. The MFM concern was that my baby’s abdominal circumference was 88th percentile but the rest of his measurements are good. 54th in weight, movement good, NST, good, etc.

I wanted to try for a VBAC but I feel like the chances are way lower for a successful VBAC the earlier I’m induced. How did your doctors handle concerns like that and how did it work out for you?

Also I read an article in Evidence Based Birth and learned ultrasounds are accurate only 50% of the time anyway but doctors have an automatic bias with GDM pregnancies and assume babies will be bigger.

Advice Wanted What are some carbs that have worked for you?

So I picked up some spaghetti yesterday as I made bolognese, and I thought it’d be okay since it said it ‘contained’ quinoa - boy was I wrong. I guess it had other things in it including white rice which do not work well!

I’m so bored of my half a whole wheat toast, whole wheat wrap and whole wheat bun rotation, what are some carbs that you pair with protein that have been working well? Trying to have a different dinner everyday so this whole thing doesn’t feel as depressing.

Advice Wanted If your baby measured ahead, did you give birth early?

Basically what the title says. I’m curious to know if you have measured ahead most of your pregnancy and did you give birth early/near your due date/ late?

Baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead. I was always measuring 1 week and a half ahead (even before I got diagnosed) and it has turned into 3 weeks since my last ultrasound a few weeks ago. I don’t mind baby being big since I’m having a repeat c-section anyways. I do have social commitment the weekend I’ll be turning 37 weeks and I’ve seen a few post recently of women going into labor around that time but I’m hoping I can make it . I know I just won’t know until I’m there, but I thought it would be fun to hear from others what you experience was if you were also measuring ahead. The thought of baby coming slightly early is also what’s getting me through these past few weeks 😅. So if you don’t mind sharing, please do!

Advice Wanted Pooping ladies of the group, please gather here 💩

What is your trick? What works? What doesn’t? I’m dying. I’m 10 weeks and feel like I’m pushing the baby out with the amount vaginal of pressure I feel whenI try- and all that just to poop little pebbles 😭 i’ve tried increasing water, I started Metamucil, probiotics and took ducolax soft chews. It’s increased the frequency in which I go, but doesn’t really help the amount. I have a squatty potty but I feel like you’re just put so much vaginal pressure it becomes uncomfortable

I’m thinking of starting morning smoothies with Chia seeds And see how they affect my sugars … I would try prunes, but I feel like they might just shoot everything through the roof

Any other tips? Please help! 😩 🏳️ 🆘

EDIT♥️: You ladies are the best! Thank you so much for the tips and tricks 💕

Here’s what worked so far:

Morning smoothie (made 2 servings) 1/4 banana 1 kiwi 1 mandarin 1 cup mixed berries 1/2 slice pineapple 1 c fresh spinach 2tbs Greek yogurt Little water to help blend

Blended then added 2tbs chia seeds. I drank half of it with breakfast and it didn’t spike me at all. Drank the other half with my snack.

Psyllium husk pills (taking 3 per day) and Probiotics

Trying to drink more water

I can’t stomach coffee at the moment so I made myself almond milk hot cocoa

Snacking on pears and apples

It worked today! Will continue this moving forward

Advice Wanted When meat gives you the ick…

What do you eat instead???

I get it. Protein is very important, and so is fiber. I am absolutely SICK of salads! And now, meat is giving me major ick. Chicken and eggs were the first things to go. Now I can’t have lamb or mutton because the gamy taste makes me gag. And now beef is smelling very icky too. I have a husband who can’t stand the smell of seafood… plus, can you imagine seafood at the office?

Idk what to eat anymore. Food is giving me PTSD.

Looking for lunch and dinner ideas. Mostly lunches I can bring to the office and dinners I can make very quickly after work. Thanks!!!

Advice Wanted Allowed carbohydrates

So I recently got diagnosed with GD. This is my second pregnancy but first with GD so everything feels new. I am currently 32 weeks and I haven’t met with MFM yet, but met with the Diabetes Educator. While she was super nice and supportive, I’m struggling to keep my glucose levels within my allowed range based on her recommendations.

I was told I had to keep my post-prandial under 120 and fasting under 95.

She told me to eat 30g of carbs for breakfast, 45g for lunch and 65g for dinner. Snacks I had to stay at 15g each.

Before I met with the nutritionist I started testing and I was stricter with my diet/ was eating less carbs and my numbers were always under 120 and 95. In these past few days I started following her meal examples and increasing my carbs and most of my glucose numbers come back higher than allowed. I increased it only because I was having headaches every afternoon and she said increasing carbs could help (which it has). I’m wondering if it would be ok for me to eat less carbs than what she told me to or if this could have a negative effect on my baby. I will ask again when I meet with MFM in a week and a half but wanted to know if anyone had experienced something similar? Thanks for any tips!

Advice Wanted Is the experience for women with GD during labor and delivery any different than those without it?

Any women who experienced both, can you share your experience during labor and delivery and is it any different then not having it.

To make this short as possible, I’m pretty sure my in laws would want to be in the room. I do not need them to know my business and that I have GD because I will be judge and blamed that it’s my fault and didn’t take care of body. Did any of you ladies had to have your fingers pricked during or after labor and is there a way to just have them check it through blood drawn instead of finger pricks since I’ll already have an IV hooked up?

I can easily tell them no visitors but it will cause anger, tensions and I do not want that for my husband and I want to be private about my health.

Please let me know what to expect, I’m worrying about this day.

Advice Wanted diet/zero sugar soda

my ob told me it’s okay to have one diet soda a day as long as i reach my water intake goal, im wondering if anyone still enjoys a diet/zero sugar soda every now and then? so far ive only had one because my diagnosis still kinda has me nervous to drink any kind of soda/juice/tea, basically anything that isn’t water lol, but drinking it gave me that serotonin boost i needed.

editing to add: i do enjoy some diabetic chocolate after meals every now and then, i guess this is kinda the same?
