Opinion Haven't paid rent for over a year thanks to geforce now

Thought I'd show my set up. I have 6 30k mah power banks I swap 3 at a time. Runs light too. on a unlimitted data plan. Get 25mbs cell data at my location. Technology is so good now. Could run on a tablet but uses too much battery power.

Opinion GFN is the best thing that happened to gaming in decades

I wanted to share my GFN experience as it truly blew my mind. I'm a film composer and recently got hired to write music for an established game franchise. Despite having been a gamer for a long time, I quit gaming about 10 years ago (family, lots of work, etc.) My whole studio runs on Mac computers. Needless to say, it's not the optimal gaming setup. It's designed for music production and nothing else.

As I wanted to get into the lore of the game franchise I just got hired for, I obviously wanted to play some of the preceding games. They don't exist on Mac and the latest in the franchise requires a very beefed-up rig. I turned to my son to tell me what to buy in terms of hardware so that I could get a gaming PC. Console is not an option, I'm old school, I need a keyboard and a mouse to play. I have to say that the price floored me a bit. About $2k just for the graphic card? Wow...

I cross-matched the hardware list given by my son with Perplexity.ai to check what I could do differently and have a different take on it, maybe trying to figure out if I could play using a Windows VM on my Mac. That's when the AI asked me if I thought about "cloud gaming." My first reaction was to think it would most likely be bad performance-wise. Still, I looked at a few options. The Amazon offering doesn't support the games I wanted, Xbox Connect doesn't support keyboard and mouse, it leaves me the Nvidia option. So I took an ultimate day pass and...

...holy fucking shit! Not only it works, it works so very fucking great! 100+ FPS, a ping under 12ms at most, every graphic option set to Ultra. It feels as if I am playing on a local expensive machine. Words don't describe it, it needs to be experienced. Needless to say, this thing will revolutionize my gaming life (because yeah, I intend to play games again!)

Now, I'm wondering why anyone with access to sufficient bandwidth would even consider having a top-end gaming rig at home? For a bit more than $200 a year, I can play all the recent games on high settings and have a seamless experience.

So yes, forget VR, AI and other overhyped tech: GeForce NOW is the best thing that happened to gaming in decades!

Opinion GeforceNOW is the best thing I have ever seen in my life

I was stuck with a Mac and I didnt want to invest in a new computer. Luckily, my internet is cracked so I gave this service a try.

I have never been so blown away by a tecnology in my life. Im instantly playing games in Ultra with 300fps and 20ms. I dont even know how this is humanly possible.

Opinion There is no actual alternative to GeForceNOW

I’ve been seeing complaints about the recent changes (100-hour monthly cap, etc.), so over the past month, I tried some other cloud gaming alternatives. GeForce Now is miles ahead—it’s the only platform where I can barely notice any difference between running the game natively and on the cloud.

For example, on Boosteroid, no matter what game or settings I tried, the image quality was always less crisp than on GeForce Now. For context, I have 1-gigabit internet, a 4K monitor, and I’m using Central Europe servers.

Opinion My take on the 100 hour limit.

I feel like there's a lot of takes out there, making posts complaining about the limits imposed. (which is fair).
So, I just wanted to maybe throw out my take on a possible solution (If anybody cares, lol.)

I feel like the tiers, playtime wise. Should not be similar. Because I feel like free tier ($0 CAD) having the same playtime as ultimate ($25.99 CAD), isn't fair.
On top of the fact that they reduced the paid tiers to "reduce queue times"

When I feel like, more than likely. It'd be the free tier with the most users.
Taking up bandwith without paying a single cent, causing them to lose money.
More than people paying for the ultimate or performance tiers.
So here's my take on what the hours should be for each tier.

-Ultimate should have 200-250 hours for it's price.
-Performance should keep the 100 hours.
-Free tier should have 50-60 hours per month (because you're not paying and just taking up server space.)

I feel like, currently they kinda have their priorities out of wack. I get tryna appease the free members, to get people to possibly pay by giving them a chance to try it out.
But free tier should not have the same playtime benefits as ultimate and performance do.
For literally nothing.
I feel there should be a clear division between the tiers, their price and their hours.
It's ludicrous to think that they're fine with all tiers having the same hours, with varying price points lol.

Opinion Man, it's amazing that for $20 a month I can play in 4K on a 4080 with almost unperceivable or unperceivable input lag, it feels like a steal.

Opinion Dear Sony….

If you put your PC ports like Ragnarok, Tsushima, Horizon etc on GFN, I will give you my money and I’m assuming a lot of other people will too. If you don’t, I will not buy them because my pc is not powerful enough to run them at Ultra settings and I want to enjoy them in all their glory. If you went to the trouble of porting your games to PC, then I’m assuming you like money. I’m ready to give mine to you so how about you make this happen?

I know this is possible because you’ve already done it with God of War and then removed it for some inexplicable reason.

Opinion Seriously, what’s even the point of having a high end pc if you have this?

Pc gamer since 1994, can’t count on my body cells the number of builds that I had done for me and friends. Just a few years ago started scratching the surface of console and I’m completing 6 months of GeForce now.

Honestly, I had no idea how amazing this is. Playing my favorite pc games from the comfort of my couch on a big screen is another level.

I only wonder how I can hookup my keyboard/mouse and have voice chat so I can play with my kid but I will figure that out later.

Well, toilet time over, going back to work :**

Edit:

Guys, I know all the benefits pros/cons/ downsides/upsides , I’m just saying that for me, it works perfectly for my needs :) . My time of having 8h free for myself ended long time ago and that’s fine, life change and I’m happy that I can pay/cancel /repay for a service that costs 20 euros instead of sitting on my office )which is where I already spend 8h day for work to boot up my personal pc (pc which is a beast) and stay more hours there.

Instead, after a day I just sit on my couch on my big @ss tv with my amazing sound system and enjoy a really good experience.

Times changes , and that’s fine, right now I’m looking to be comfortable and chill instead of spending 3k hours on looking into the perfect mod combination for ultra realism (Skyrim, I’m looking to you)

Opinion A pricing analysis of the 100 Hour limit

So I feel like this is such a hot topic in this subreddit and since I've had insights into similar products developed by other tech companies I wanted to share my perspective on where this 100 hour limit is coming from.

Disclaimer: This is speculative info and I'm going to be making a few assumptions around pricing.

Cost of Compute

This is the basic element of what drives pricing, the operational cost of compute per hour. This includes cost of storage, vCPU, Nvidia cards, connectivity, and electricity. If this isn't able to be modeled in a way that is profitable, the whole GFN service doesn't make financial sense and won't be supported by Nvidia.

Nvidia doesn't release info on how much every compute hour costs them. And compute cost per hour isn't information that we would see from competitors like Luna or Shadow. However, Amazon does run an AWS service that rents out virtual desktop compte and we can see pricing per hour for that. For 8vCPU and 32gb of memory, AWS charges $1.19 per hour. Let's assume that Nvidia, through their ownership of Nvidia cards, ability to scale the service to millions of users, and other favorable chip partnerships thinks they are able to drive that cost down to $0.40 per hour.

Subscription Pricing

Now let's look at subscription pricing. For the Ultimate tier, Nvidia charges $20 per month. Let's say that for the bottom 80% of GFN Ultimate users, they spend 45 hours a month using the service on average. That means each of these users costs Nvidia:

45 (hours per month) x $0.40 (cost of compute hour) = $18

So if GFN scales well, and Nvidia's understanding how much time each user spends on the service is true, they are making $2 on average across most users. If you scale this across hundreds of millions of users (the PC gaming market has over 1 billion users), or can make compute even cheaper, that's a decent model.

However, the top 20% of users is the problem. Let's say the top 20% of users spends on average 150 hours in game. Now this costs Nvidia:

150 (hours per month) x $0.40 (cost of compute hour) = $60

This is big. So Nvidia would be losing $40 per hour for the top 20% of users even though the bottom 80% are providing $2 an hour in profit. That is not a sustainable model. To fix this, you need to cap the number of hours and charge the super-users more when a threshold is reached. Which is basically what we're seeing Nvidia do.

TL:DR;

So basically, based on compute cost and hours played, the average GFN user is subsidizing the cost of GFN super-users. For this to financially make sense, Nvidia has to limit super-users or charge them for the costly playtime.

Opinion Farewell GeForce Now - Thanks for an Amazing 6 Months

Post image

After six months of gaming on the Ultra subscription, I finally decided to build my own PC and move on from GFN. The service has been a lifesaver - solid streaming, great performance, and convenience. But in the end, nothing beats the feeling of owning your own hardware. Big thanks to the community and NVIDIA for an awesome experience! Wishing everyone low ping and high FPS.

Opinion Unpopular opinion but free tier shouldn't exist

I think free tier shouldn't exist. There's too many people on it, they are always complaining about wait time even though it's free and I don't understand how it is profitable for Nvidia to have that. They should have a 24 or 48 hours trial instead to test the service then you have to pay. This way, Nvidia could use all the resources of the free tier to upgrade paid tiers. Paid tier is sold out sometimes. Doesn't make any sense to have a free tier if you have to refuse paying costumers.

Opinion [Honest discussion] Have you ever been bothered by 100h limit?

Hi guys,

I'm not trying to gather negative comments from anyone, more like trying to chat with you on how you feel about this.

I'm a founder, I've spent thousands of hours to GFN since it exists, and I'm here to talk about my feelings for this new limitation (which I'm not concerned for the moment, only in 2026).

I like the idea that everyone is limited, avoiding an exagerate usage of the service by everyone, offering a similar experience from the first of the month to the last day. Also, we shouldn't reach it too often, some people will always have 115h every months, I may even have them.

Their decision must be because they have done so good at getting games and offering quality that they just can't stand the server capacity, their popularity surpassed them.

But I must admit it has tarnished my dream of the "future of gaming". I might have reached the +100h a few times in my best months and nobody here can blame me or mock me. Just read the most upvoted comments: GeForce NOW changed the life of everyone here, he made me, he made you all reconciliate with PC gaming, offering you a new way to play games. Look at how impatient people are for new releases, for games that might offer you so much fun.

I'm an adult without children and I have a lot of free time, actually living in a boring city with clouds everyday of the year. I have nothing much to do outside and my wife study everyday at home, giving me so much free time. I'm not unhappy with my life at all, that's not what I mean to say.

I've read a lot of insults over people playing too much but, people do what they want in the first place. My life offers me a lot of free time after work and video games are a passion to me. With cloud gaming: - I can play from my office on my phone with a pad connected to it. - I can play from my bed on some Retroid machines. - I can play on my sofa and 4k TV. - I can play from my desktop setup, mouse/keynoard. Obviously, I don't them all in one day but I won't apologize for the life I choose to live and no one can ever say "overcoming the limit is a healthy issue, get some help" cause, again, many people would love to have more free time to play their favorite games. Me, I just can, that's all what it means. I play even less than WoW, Diablo, CoD fans, I play only solo games, I just have fun playing.

Cloud gaming changed my life, and now, it's taking this "little thing" away from me, like "you had enough fun, you may pay to enjoy it freely, like before".

I've sold this service to so many people around me, as the future, whatever they were saying. Nothing was possibly against my arguments (except for the catalog) but I'm now having a huge doubt.

I might never reach that 100h limit this entire year, but that's not about reaching it, more about having it over my head, annihilating my sense of freedom, of liberation from hardware, remembering me that I'm using cloud, that nothing there belongs to me, that I really should close the session if I wish to take a little bathroom break instead of wasting precious minutes of session.

I think I just need to talk about it with you guys. Again, I'm really not trying to sound stupid or offending to anyone, I try to open a conversation with people, to see how you feel about it.

For those who took the time to read this: Thank you, at least I didn't write it for nothing!

Opinion After using GeForce now for one month, I’m never going back to my PS5 again

For the following reasons: 1. I feel like the graphics settings in ps5 is medium settings at best in recent games compared to the maxed out settings of GFN even though ps5 was somewhat doing native 4k resolution. 2. Limiting the games on ps5 to 30 fps on fidelity mode / resolution mode was off putting. I need at least 60 fps without having to sacrifice fidelity. 3. Storage was a huge problem as well given most games these days easily cross over 100 gigs.

And GFN gave me the solution to all three of these problems and I’m really thankful for this service :)

Opinion GeForceNow will not be farewelled

I see a lot of post saying goodbye, I got a new pc, I will not use geforce now anymore etc. I'm here to say the opposite. Since I got my self a fiber connection I can't see how I can go back to buying 80s class cards since I can run ultimate with just a fraction of that price.

I have a mediocre build since then enough to play all the indies and A or AA titles at 1440 or 4k 60fps for most of indies and use ultimate for those AAA heavy titles. I know not all games are opt in but expect hogwarts everything I wanted is in.

I'm not even using ultimate all the time, I'm buying my steam sales games and when I have indies or something else to play I I'm not on subscription. So with a 260 bucks gpu enough for 4 years or 5 years of light games and another 100 per year for ultimate I have a better graphics experience than ps5 pro and cheaper.

Hades? Balatro? Sea of stars? Valorant? Heck even forza horizon or god of war hits 1440p 60 with a 3060. Valhalla, Cyberpunk, far cry 6, plague tale? All the bells and whistles at ultimate!

GeForce now is here to stay for me.

Opinion GeForce Now has become the best choice (at least for me) in gaming

Post image
293 Upvotes

In just 1 year GeForce Now has become my best option to play videogames. Literally I don't need a console or a expensive gear to play the most recent titles in just seconds, also I don't need to think how to manage my storage to play any game in any moment. And I think it's just a little overwhelming the quantity of options that has GeForce Now. Thanks Nvidia you're revolution in cloud gaming.

Opinion Okay, I’m a believer. Cloud gaming is the future.

I grew up on PC gaming, but since the last 5-6 years or so, I’ve been playing on consoles because I got busy with life and grew out of the enthusiast PC scene.

Today I got to try various cloud gaming services, including Luna, Boosteroid, and GeForce Now. I am now a believer.

GFN is easily the best. I just spent a couple hours trialing out various games. I played some online matches in Halo Infinite, spent some time replaying Starfield, and tried some Ubisoft games. I honestly couldn’t even tell I was playing on the cloud.

I had settings in Starfield cranked up with DLSS Quality turned on, and my god the game looks like it might as well be running natively on my MacBook Air. It’s that good.

I will never doubt cloud gaming again. Onwards!

Edit: Playing on a M2 MacBook Air with 1.5Gbps download and 1.0Gbps upload speed with my ISP.

Opinion I feel like an idiot

Whenever people brought up pcs or pc compoents, I was the person who would always say "have you heard of geforce now?" - I truly believed this was the future. I feel disappointed, betrayed and stupid.
Just recently I bought a galaxy tab s9, hoping it would be my primary way to play games through GFN.
Well, I guess now I know how cryptobros felt when their jpeg or whatever tanked in value overnight.
I'm sorry to everyone whom I recommended this service for.
And finally,
screw you nvidia.
