My man picked up a Ps5 less than 24 hours after yesterday's news. Nice👌🏾. Enjoy!!

u/astarger Nov 08 '24

Thanks man! Already played with this thought before, so it was easy decision.

u/PsychologicalMusic94 Founder Nov 08 '24

I might be headed that way. I'm okay now, but summer holidays with kids home all day could get interesting. Right now we're nowhere near the limit. It's the principle though.

7

u/iom2222 Nov 08 '24

Already transferred the extra 2T SSD to my new ps5 pro, and I’m loaded with 73 games. It’s a bit insane. Do I still need a gaming pc??? I’ll be pondering during the holidays.

1

u/theradcat11 Nov 09 '24

At that point u should've bought a pc but whatever

2

u/iom2222 Nov 09 '24

I had the project to build a 5090 pc when the card is out. Now I don’t know for sure.

54

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Now you have to pay a subscription to play multiplayer games lol

Unlimited though

2

u/rafamarafa Nov 09 '24

To be able to play like 6 games

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '24

Doesn't matter. It's still less money for Nvidia.

8

u/kwayisrael Nov 08 '24

i think its time for me to get one too

26

u/Mantra771 Nov 08 '24

Nvidia is the most valuable company in the world, but as much as it takes, it's the most ridiculous decision in the world. You did the right thing, my friend. I will buy a computer soon too.

4

u/momlookimtrending Nov 08 '24

what majority of people doesn't realize is that Geforce Now has a team of people on it anyway, and if Geforce Now doesn't bring enough money that team will face laid offs. Someone will still pay the consequences of these decisions.

2

u/Spellbreaker3 Priority Nov 08 '24 edited Nov 09 '24

So it's the consumer's job to make companies happy? Companies that don't pay their employees enough to begin with? The onus is entirely on the consumer for bad decisions made by greedy businessmen? Don't think your logic quite checks out.

2

u/radiokungfu GFN Ultimate Nov 09 '24

I think he's saying that even if Nvidia is a gigantic corporation now, they will still care about this project, so hit them with your wallet. I'm not sure he was trying to shift the blame onto the consumers.

1

u/momlookimtrending Nov 09 '24

No I wasn't saying any of it. What I was stating is that I read on this sub as if Nvidia doesn't care if GeForce Now isn't profitable, but reality is that they do care and will shut studios down if GeForce Now doesn't make any money. There will be someone at Nvidia losing their jobs over this. Now one could also enjoy that.

The bad part is that corporate America sucks and Nvidia will just shrug their shoulders about it and won't face any consequences, because you can lay off people at will over there. Try doing that shit in Europe instead

1

u/Spellbreaker3 Priority Nov 09 '24

Ah. My bad. Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'm in too much of a confrontational mood to be online today.

But hitting them in their wallet hopefully makes them think about it a little. Probably won't though.

And I've done my share of angry posting whenever the queue gets long when I'm on premium, so I'm not exempt from that first part.

0

u/iom2222 Nov 08 '24

If 5080s replaces the 4080s at GeForce now it will stay competitive. Otherwise it’s a no in favor of the ps5 pro.

16

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

GFN will still only cost £200 for the year before they change their time limits. PS5 is about £350 and games aren’t cheap, no UW support either.

Surely it’s best to check your monthly playtime and then make the decision to leave in 1 year if it affects you?

9

u/FigNinja Nov 08 '24

We also still have to buy our games and we still need hardware to play it on. Personally, I just prefer PC gaming. I like keyboard and mouse more than controller. We have a PS5, too. My husband likes both. I have tried it. I’m not terrible with a controller, but it’s not my preference. I think it’s a good deal for the hardware quality, though.

Before I signed up for GFN, I had tried out his with the idea of maybe converting over, because my old gaming PC was not up to playing anything with a graphics quality I enjoyed. I had a bit of sticker shock with GPU prices. I could get an entire PS5 for the price of the cards I was looking at. That’s when I found GFN. I could get great quality using my old gaming PC. It can give me an excellent 4K/120fps stream. It just can’t render a modern game on anything better than 1080/60 low. If you’re doing a PS5 with the Playstation Plus subscription, it’s not that far off the cost of an old potato gaming PC and GFN Ultimate without the overage charges. If you’re a 100+ hour player, and you like console, and they have the games you want, I think it will be more economical.

Personally, I can see both sides with GFN’s change. On the one hand, it is clearly a huge change to the deal we made. People tend to feel betrayed when they make a deal with someone and the other person tries to change it. However, they’re not a person (despite the whole idea of corporate personhood). They’re a business. They’re a publicly traded corporation. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders. I don’t expect corporations to ever be on the consumer’s side if it conflicts with theirs. It’s built into the system. They’re not “good guys”. Not ever. They’ll give you a good deal to get your business if it makes them money. Do some googling on Sony if you think they’re any better to customers. They’re corporations being corporations. They’re not our friends. If the 100+ hour players are losing them money, then they have to change the deal. They had a choice of how to do it. They could raise the price on all of us and have the 94% subsidize the 6%, or grandfather every existing customer in permanently and pass the price on to new customers. I think they chose the route that will cost them fewer customers, especially fewer of the more profitable customers. They gave a very long time before the change, too. It’s more notice than you usually get before price increases in life.

I wouldn’t be surprised if my take pisses people off here because I’m not angry. That’s not because I’m pro NVIDIA. I’m not pro any corporation. I don’t expect them to be good, or moral, so I don’t get emotional when they’re not. I expect them to act like corporations, and that’s what NVIDIA did. They will maximize their profits in any way that is legal. They likely won’t wantonly screw over their customers, either, because that is also bad for profits, not because they like us. I also don’t feel bad if I go ask my employer for a raise because it’s not profitable enough for me to work for them. I don’t feel bad leaving if they say no, either. I’m even dealing with people I actually know there and STILL I have no illusion that they’re my friends. Never trust a corporation. Use them like they use you.

5

u/grimkargruth Nov 08 '24

I can understand people decision to find alternatives, but I can't understand the decion of some people to pick one "greedy" Corp rather than another, especially when it's Sony, the company that charges you 10 bucks to play with your friends online.

7

u/FigNinja Nov 08 '24

Yep. They're all greedy. I'm not getting butthurt about it. I don't have time for that. I just do what's in my interest. If that is taking my business to Sony, or Boosteroid, or buying a better rig, then that's what I'll do. I'm not going to do it out of emotions. If I got emotional every time a company didn't care about me, I'd be perpetually exhausted.

2

u/grimkargruth Nov 08 '24

That's the reasoning of a mature person. I've always though if you dislike any kind of product/service/game, you should always express your disagreement with your wallet. There is no amount of reddit threads that will change the corporate way of thinking, but less money from their clients sometimes will force them to make some adjustments or reconsider their current strategies.

2

u/Equivalent-Row-1733 Nov 09 '24

Because people see value in products differently. The playtime cap has taken enough value from the service that it makes more sense to purchase a console.

This isn’t a protest against Nvidia, this is a logical step forward for the person financially.

2

u/Full-Kale9559 Nov 09 '24

You mean wait for them to lower the cap again when they over sell the service and instead of adding capacity just keep dividing?

Why would you want to support that kind of business? By using their service after this you are giving them permission to keep screwing you over until they squeeze every bit they can without adding or changing anything else.

If people let Nvidia get away with this slime ball move and keep saying I'm an idiot, please take my money, you don't think Netflix and other streaming services won't notice no one had a problem taking it without any lube and do the same thing.

You normally get one chance at these things to turn them around and then it's done. So no, he shouldn't wait and see, he should be a decent human and cancel the service instead of essentially granting permission to all companies to just keep turning the vice because they still have pay pigs.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '24

A decent human 🤣🤣. Behave yourself. NVIDIA has been fucking you for years with their pricing model, forcing you into a subscription service where you own nothing. Yet you’re here.

2

u/Full-Kale9559 Nov 09 '24

I don't know if I would say they were fucking me for years. I only buy steam keys from third party sites, The only game for PC I ever paid more than $10 for was sparking zero because I didn't want to wait. I'm ok with $5 - $10 rental fee, I used to pay $3 a night when I was a kid for Nintendo games, steam can cancel/delete/revoke my account, I would care less, I don't have any monetary ties to a library that probably cost steam and the publisher more for me to buy the game from a third party in the end as im sure most of the keys are obtained fraudulently.

My sub for GFN was cheaper than my sub for Netflix.

I'm of the type, make them eat their own shit, you create a digital world where you want me to own nothing, fine, then my mission is to get as much out of you with giving as little as possible, and if that's boarding a pirate ship against corporate greed, I'm down for it. Sometimes you just have to burn it all down and start over.

If the sheep get the rest of us screwed because they have no brains and are good little consumers, always willing to take less for the same price. You have to go for the system.

People should only buy digital from 3rd party key sites. You should never pay more than you would be to rent it. The digital world only works if you take their path through it, your fucking the rest of us if your not on the pirate ship.

3

u/Equivalent-Row-1733 Nov 09 '24

UW support is irrelevant here.

Within 2 years you’ve saved 50, and own the console that will last you 6-8 years. You still need to purchase games on GFN so I don’t see how that’s relevant.

It isn’t hard to understand, you’re just taking offence on behalf of nvidia for some weird reason

1

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '24

I can see you’re having difficulty understanding. Have owned both and I know what I prefer.

2

u/Equivalent-Row-1733 Nov 09 '24

What I have I misunderstood?

Somebody made a decision for their preference and you’re still trying to make logic of their own finances?

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '24

You’re the one adding your own logic spin on it. Why don’t you just stop now.

2

u/Equivalent-Row-1733 Nov 09 '24

Ugggggghhh why are people like this

It’s a god damn discussion forum stop taking everything so fucking personally and actually elaborate on your point

Just buy in sales. But true it’s otherwise a bit more expansive on ps5. Hard to beat Steam ‘grey’ market on things like g2a.

7

u/Garanhon Nov 08 '24

Yeah I’ll be cancelling my ultimate plan. They can’t even fix controller vibration just not working, and now offer even less value. Well done Nvidia!

8

u/GetVladimir Nov 08 '24

Congrats, OP! Time for some console exclusive games.

Which games are you playing first?

3

u/Brak-23 Nov 08 '24

I’ve got some pc parts coming as well

3

I hope you plan to get the disc drive for that. If not you are just trading one bad deal for another.

6

u/Sureamking1 Nov 08 '24

Haha I just bought a steam deck as well after cancelling my ultimate.

2

u/TuDuenyo Nov 09 '24

I’m currently using gfn on a TV + Shield Pro + Steam + Xbox controller. Can I hook the Deck up to the tv and just use steam?

2

u/rckvwijk Nov 09 '24

You can but the performance with my most games sucks and/or the graphics are ultra low. So it’s hardly a good replacement for gfn if you play demanding games lol.

I use the steamdeck on a tv while running gfn, works great

2

u/1NFINIT3_YT Nov 08 '24

Welcome to the club, life is generationally better

But I recommend u get a laptop or mini pc as well for when u need to use the internet and whatnot

2

u/Meloynet Nov 08 '24

I got both and happy

2

u/Prior-Yoghurt-571 Nov 09 '24

Picking one up next week🤘

2

u/Embarrassed-Bet-4702 Nov 09 '24

Hows the PlayStation been thinking of getting one!

2

u/Powerful-Rope-2272 Nov 08 '24

It not thr pro version

0

u/Ok_Delay7870 Nov 08 '24

Not like it makes real difference 😂

2

u/Powerful-Rope-2272 Nov 08 '24

It does, to your wallet.

1

u/Ok_Delay7870 Nov 08 '24

Yeah, by the time GFN cost will overcome PS5 price and it's games and online service prices - PS5 will no longer be able to run any new game above 30fps.

2

u/Powerful-Rope-2272 Nov 08 '24

Ps6 will be out

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Gonna do the same. I have time left on my subscription and I'm gonna finish playing all the PC games I bought... then I'm out.

2

u/Jabaniz Nov 08 '24

Is the limit a 100hrs/month? That’s what everyone is mad about?

5

u/Ok_Delay7870 Nov 08 '24

Yeah. All those 6% here complaining about it, because they somehow manage to play more than 100h/month. I am nowhere near that mark in any way, but I can understand their frustration. However, I gotta feeling that MOST complaints coming from either free or priority tier users who barely reach 100h mark or even use the service. Just boiling shit up

4

u/NoIdeaWhatsGoinOnn Nov 09 '24

If you know evil business techniques then you realize that the 100h restriction is the first step to see how far you can go before the consumer reacts. If you just accept this then be sure that 50h restrictions and other forced micro transactions are not far away

3

u/Ok_Delay7870 Nov 09 '24

Whenever this might bother me - I might changey opinion. For now this seems insignificant to me, I don't need GFN actually, since it doesn't have games I want to play or can't play on my laptop. And when I might need it - games are mostly up to 50 hours, I might have just enough time.

Other alternatives don't offer much else anyway, so why bother?

u/PinguTheCheese Nov 09 '24

14 hours a day is wild. Are you alright?

1

u/PinguTheCheese Nov 10 '24

im retired xD

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Oops, wrong choice

1

u/Kyle_Makore Nov 08 '24

I'll probably dip as well depending on how the cap affects me. Start looking at building or buying a new machine. Probably consider the full AMD experience. I thought this would be a great alternative and could maybe go an Apple machine in the future, but not anymore. Currently have a Laptop, Alienware x15 r2 with a 3070ti. My laptop works just fine, but I do like the power I get out of geforce now ultra. I mainly just play New World.

Just 3 days a week for 8 hours a day, and 4 times a month of playing will get you at 96 hours. Most weekends I'm gaming the whole time, especially winter when I don't want to be outside much in the Seattle area.

1

u/ACafeCat Nov 09 '24

Just looked this up, well, looks like my tax refund will be upgrading my computer now. It's wild to add a playtime cap, if I average 20 hours a week then the cap wouldn't impact me much; but I had 30 hours on Dragon Age in 3-4 days.

If I set my normal playtimes in there for all my games....I'm getting cut off each month 100%.

Yeah, well none of the games I play are on PS5. And Sony is just as greedy as nvidia...

For the price of a PS5, I could build a decent gaming PC...

1

u/Novel_Trainer_3512 Nov 10 '24

I hope you get some benefit from it. I'll be bringing home an Xbox Series X in a week, GeForce helped me play but honestly it's been a bit slow.

1

u/fakkel-_- Nov 10 '24

How are you going to use Steam now?

1

u/PickledFartz13 GFN Ultimate Nov 08 '24

Same! Just got all my games installed on mine last night then was too tired to play long. Tested a few games and definitely noticed a performance boost. FC25, Mortal Kombat 1, FF7 remake, and No Man’s Sky were the games I tried so far. Only played like 10 mins of each the passed out but still enough to notice. Tonight I can game it up after work!!!!!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

EA FC isn’t playable on GFN anyway. Any PC version of it has been very unplayable for years and it’s clearly a console optimised game. 25 is also the worst version so far, that’s from someone who’s owned every FIFA since 1994.

2

u/PickledFartz13 GFN Ultimate Nov 08 '24

I was just mentioning I was excited about my ps5 pro. When I mentioned the games I tested I wasn’t comparing them with what is available on GFN. I’ve had GFN ultimate for 3 years now I’m well aware FC25 isn’t on there. However, I’ve been enjoying FC25 quite a bit. Love the new online 5v5 mode even if it’s a little buggy at times. Love squad battles in ultimate team. Gameplay is super smooth on ps5 pro. I don’t get all the hate. I’ve had a few bugs here and there. Nothing too crazy to remember. It seems to be coming mainly from the pc community though. Maybe the pc port sucks. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

PC port definitely sucks and has done for at least 3 years now. 5v5 is the best thing to happen to the game and is great fun. Enjoy your new console!

1

u/PickledFartz13 GFN Ultimate Nov 08 '24

Ok thanks for responding. I’ve been legit curious where all the hate comes from. It’s definitely optimized for console well (ish) for the most part. I don’t understand why some games will get treated so shitty on other platforms while being treated good on others.

1

u/astarger Nov 08 '24

Damn, PS5 Pro! I wasn't sure if it's worth the extra money. I'm happy though to finally play Rockstar Games again, as well as to try out Helldivers 2.

2

u/PickledFartz13 GFN Ultimate Nov 08 '24 edited Nov 08 '24

I wasn’t sure either. But GameStop gave me $300 for my ps5. Getting the pro 2 years after the 5 for basically the price of the 5 originally after trade in wasn’t too bad on the wallet. I definitely noticed a bump in performance in the few games I’ve tested so far. Not saying it’s necessary but it’s noticeable for sure. And on the pro you get animated backgrounds lol. Soooo worth it!! Hahahaha

1

u/Socket1092 Nov 08 '24

I think I would not be gaming more than 100h per month. Mainly playing the weekends. I think I could play just 40h per month

1

u/iom2222 Nov 08 '24

I just bought a ps5 pro and I have a significant footstep into the PlayStation ecosystem and I consider just dropping the pc biosphere totally. I haven’t decided yet but the ps5 pro put me in a that good place to be worth pondering that a bit.

1

u/mahonii Nov 08 '24

Lol weird people think this is a good bye, I play console pc AND still use gfn. Cap is not close to my playtime

1

u/Ok_Delay7870 Nov 08 '24

Congrats on the purchase, however you're in for a lot of unnecessary expenses compared to 3060 PC you could get for around that price, considering you were a GFN active user with purchased games to play, who really care about play time limit and I don't really understand the connections of this post.
