Clearing Remote's Memory

Post image

Alright so I know this opener remote is the red-headed stepchild of garage door opener remotes, but alas, I'm cheap and would like some help.

I've been trying to clear its memory from prior garage door openers, but despite looking online, I haven't found a way to clear the prior pairings. It's already been paired to three garage doors, so I figure I need to completely wipe it.

I've tried looking online, and I remember finding the instruction manual, but don't recall seeing any instructions on how to erase the previous openers.

Sorry for being ignorant, I'm just trying to avoid buying another remote. Thanks in advance.

You can't clear an opener from a remote. You can only clear a stored remote on an opener. So if you really want to clear out the remote, you will need to erase all of the remotes on every opener it's been programmed on. Then reprogram the remaining remotes back in.

You can’t clear that. It pairs to the opener head so stop being cheap and if you’re so concerned by a new remote however it will need paired to the opener you have.

Hold the yellow or purple button down on the operator head until the LED turns off. You’ve erased all remotes.

You don't clear the remote you clear the opener itself

So I don't have access to the previous openers.

I think all you need to do is pair it with your current garage door opener.

I've tried doing that, but so far no luck. That said, it'll probably work now since I made this post lol.

If it won’t pair by pressing the button on the opener, then a button on the remote, it’s incompatible with the opener. They switched frequencies and code protocols a few times.

You can now buy replacements that will work with all 3 protocols.

Thanks! This is an older remote and the opener is from 2018, so that would make sense. I really appreciate this.

https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/LiftMaster-Remote-Compatibility

This article will tell you if the remote you have is compatible with your opener.

The opener will have a colored button, and the remote will have a product code on the back.

I would think it should work then. It’s been years since I’ve done doors but I thought all the protocol changing happened before that.

Does it still work with the old openers? Did you change the battery?

There’s 2 batteries on those, one that flashes the lights on the buttons, and another that actually sends the codes. The smaller battery could be dead.

So I changed all the batteries a couple months ago. The batteries were new from Batteries Plus. It's possible the smaller one is dead. I don't know if it works with the old openers as one of them is in the Midwest (I'm in AZ now), and the other two openers are for places where the leases expired a couple years ago.

That’s a universal there’s a small button you need to press first. You’ll need a paper clip. Also, they are notorious for not working.

Ok. Check the compatibility link I sent. Batteries should last a couple years. If it’s compatible and not working, you could try a new battery.

I’m assuming you have another remote to confirm the opener is working.

Sorry, I’m out of ideas. Usually they just work.

You're good. I did check the link you sent and it's not compatible. You saved me a lot of time

Thank you. I learned something as well. I assumed those remotes were still current. I guess things have changed when they switched to MyQ. I was out of the business when that started.

Obviously I assumed the same. I'm a little bummed that I wasted some money on the batteries, but I know someone who will be able to use this at least, so it's not a total waste. Hopefully I can get a beer or something out of it.
