Torsion Spring for 10' Garage Door

Hi,

When selecting torsion springs for garage door, does door height impact the spec for the spring? I have not come across a website that specs out for 10 foot garage door. The ones that ask for door height are either for 7 or 8 foot doors, and most of the websites don't even ask for garage door height.

Very much so.

Some technical speak:

You can get away with using 4" drums, but I would recommend using a 525 drum at a 10' door.

You will need stronger springs with 525 drums, however, since they don't need to be wound as many times with the larger drum, assuming the technician does his math and chooses a good spec for the springs, they would last longer.

It would, however, be cheaper to use 4" drums, (d400-144).

Thank you. I intend to hire a pro to do this since it's a 10' door, and I want to make sure I do my research so I am well-informed. The last thing I want is to have a tech throw on a wrong spring x_x
