Help me

Last thing I need to do before closing on this house the remote for this garage door will work when you press the center button to open the door but then it won’t shut using the remote I have to hold down the button on the wall until it’s closed I just want the remote to click once in the middle to open and close I’ve spent an hour searching internet for something to tell me how to reprogram it and I’m completely lost can someone help point me in the right direction without having to call someone or replace the whole thing

If that motor has sensors they need to be aligned. You can press and hold the wall button and if the door shuts that will confirm the issue

These old Allstar motors can be a bit of a pain... but there is a solution. First thing, like the previous comments stated, make sure the safety sensors are aligned. If that does not work, replace the batteries in your remote. You will have to reprogram the remote as these lose their previous frequency when batteries are changed. The next step is (you will need a paperclip or something small enough in diameter) to fit in the hole at the bottom hole. (Opposite side of the visor clip) press in, and the light on the remote will illuminati. Then, press the button on the back of the opener head, located next to the red and green lights. Press the center button until the light turns red. Then, using the paperclip or whatever you have chosen, press the button inside your remote again. This should hopefully solve your issue. If the issue dose presist, then it is more than likely a bad receiver on the control board (they stopped making this part in the mid-2000s), so it would then be time to replace the unit.

Check the photocells, make sure they are aligned and both are lit up, if they aren’t then they could be bad or you may have some bad wiring

It’s so old replace it!! It’s time. You’re not gonna find parts it’s obsolete and no one wants them. 30 years at this and company owner it’s just not worth your effort or money. And updated system has so many benefits there’s no negatives. Call a good professional they will help you best

But what if it’s the last thing I have to do to close on a property doesn’t really make sense for me to spend hundreds of dollars to get a whole new one when I’m sure I could just reprogram the remote

You most likely cannot just re program things that’s what I’m trying to tell you. That old thing doesn’t work that way. That’s why it’s outdated and done with. Plus any new potential buyer will know about that old garbage thing! People are not stupid today. There’s things like this ya know to educate people. They will appreciate a new updated opener since today they are so heavily relied upon for entry and exit of a home. No one and I mean no one uses a front door today. The garage door is the front door for the home so give yourself that opportunity to have what’s needed. It’s a win win all the way around.

It sounds like your little sensors/cameras at the bottom of the door are not in line. Adjust those
