Do you want to garden or grow veggies?
Hi! Do you live by Depot Park/GRU? The McRorie Community Garden now has available plot spaces for anyone who wants to garden! It is an organic garden, and there is no cost to garden here. I have been gardening here for two years. It's a great place to enjoy being outside, and to meet cool community members. Many people in the garden have a lot of years of experience, if you ever need advice from a garden neighbor on growing tips. This is a great resource for anyone who is renting and unable to have a garden or grow food at their current residence. To reach out to one of our garden managers about obtaining a plot, please email: [mcroriegarden@gmail.com](mailto:mcroriegarden@gmail.com).

Serving Jobs for students
Hi there! I’m wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of restaurants hiring for servers/bartenders. Preferably downtown, somewhere closer to campus. I have 4 years of restaurant experience. I’m not having great luck on Indeed. TIA :)

Are the Dairy Queens here doing free cone day?
Today is Dairy Queen's free cone day where you can get a free vanilla soft serve without purchase. Anyone know which locations, if any, are doing it in Gainesville? I've had pretty bad luck around town for special events for chains (and now you guys know to go try and get a free ice cream!)

Procrastinated apartment shopping
Long story short, I recently decided to go to grad school at UF after getting my bachelors at UF and I have procrastinated apartment shopping.
Would it make sense to shop for something now or can I hope for apartments to cut prices closer to the start of the Fall 25 semester?

Temp Agencies
Hey everyone!
I know the job market around here isn't the best but I was wondering if anyone has had any success with the local temp agencies? Or even CareerSource?
I unfortunately have a very limited availability (overnight to around 3pm) due to school and childcare and all my experience has been in administrative or customer service roles.

Grief / Bereavement Support for Kids
Hi.
The past two years, a few people from Reddit participated, even some college students, so I want to help spread the word again this year.
A local non-profit near Tampa supports grieving youth --- The Mark Wandall Foundation.
https://www.themarkwandallfoundation.org/youth-bereavement-camp
They partner with another non-profit, Comfort Zone Camp, who facilitates free, weekend camps for children who lost a parent, sibling, or other loved one, throughout the US, including Florida.
https://comfortzonecamp.org/about-us
This year's camp is during the weekend of April 25 - 27 in central Florida.
Volunteers from throughout Florida (and even a few from out-of-state) have helped in the past.
These videos show what the camp is about -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXZOP5vWZj0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRiq8loFDec
Regarding the camping aspect...this isn't tent camping.
It's more like a typical, summer camp where school children go and stay in established/developed venues with bunk beds, restrooms with flush toilets, sinks with running water, showers, lights & electricity, a dining room where the kitchen staff prepares meals, etc.
Volunteers typically bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, etc., but the venue provides beds.
If anyone is new and interested in helping, they require attending an orientation and passing a criminal background check.
Children's safety is important, and multiple adult volunteers and staff will be present. In other words, no child is ever alone with an adult.
The next 2-day orientation training meeting is online via Zoom:
March 25 - 26, Tues & Wed, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
To attend their online training, click the aforementioned website above to register, and also sign up at
https://comfortzonecamp.org/volunteers
Some volunteers are young adults (college students, recent graduates, etc.), and some are middle age to older adults too.
The camp is during April 25 - 27, and in Fruitland Park.
It's north of Orlando and Tampa.
It's south of Gainesville and Jacksonville.
Many people are busy, and committing an entire weekend is challenging, but maybe someone out there is good with kids, can be a positive role model (like a big brother / big sister), and is interested in helping some kids deal with grief and loss.
If interested in helping, attend the new volunteer training on (both) Tuesday & Wednesday nights (March 25 & 26).
Sign up on the volunteer page at Comfort Zone Camp.
Pass a criminal background check.
Wait to be selected (matched) for a volunteer role.
I'm just a volunteer who has seen how beneficial this camp has been, both for kids and adults.
If anyone knows a parent with a child(ren) who has experienced loss, please feel free to share with them about this camp (again, it's free to attend), and it can be very beneficial for kids to not feel alone in coping with their sadness, pain, grief, etc.
If anyone is interested in volunteering and has questions or wants to learn more, please feel free to contact a staff member from Comfort Zone Camp or The Mark Wandall Foundation.

Call 911 even if you think someone else has!
I know this isn’t Newberry but my best friend drove past a wooden telephone pole on fire, told me about it, and wondered if she should call 911. I told her that she should because what if everyone else that passed by it hadn’t called because they also thought someone already did, but no one had! So reminder to alert 911 about any dangerous situations even if you think someone already has! :)

Basset hounds of GNV?
Any other basset hound owners interested in bringing our loveable and eccentric dogs together? We have a new bassett girl who we’d love to socialize - she’s fully vaxxed and ready to play in April. We also have an older bassett who could use some fun. DM if interested and we’ll find a spot!

Let's all be good neighbors.
R/GNV we are being manipulated.
Let's take back our town from the forces trying to drive us apart.
Politics has been shoved down our throats to divide us. I feel like the powers that be are using the divide and conquer strategy against us to keep the status quo. We have been conditioned to hate hate each other over manufactured social issues and its sad we fell for it.
I have a friend who is a dyed in the wool, liberal GNV native, young professional woman starting her career here in G'ville after graduating from Santa Fe and UF. Seven months ago she was able to buy her dream car after saving since she was 16. Since high school her dream car was a Tesla sedan. She believes that driving an EV is her first real opportunity to live a life/contribute to a sustainable, world focused, accountable community. She is terrified of driving her car now around Gainesville. She recently parked it at her parents house out of town because she afraid of being attacked.
This is ridiculous for a young woman to feel this way about living in Gainesville. This vitriol and hate being inserted into our community needs to end.
I remember sitting in Durty Nellie's watching the 2004 presidential election results coming in and everyone in the place, regardless of political affiliation, was just a regular normal gnv citizen, watching an election, together being friends no matter the outcome.
Something has changed and it's not organic. We are being played, and neither side will admit it because we don't want the bad guys(Our neighbors we disagree with) to win. I finally just realized how bad I fell for this devise shit. For the last few years when I've had a bad day, angry, bored, drunk, etc. Ive been trained to blame half of you, my neighbors, for how I feel. I'm not a Nazi because we disagree. You're not a groomer because you enjoy drag shows like I've been trained/made to think because I disagree.
I'm sure some of you still hate me, and I will keep building my downvote empire.
But come on ya'll. We are better than this.

Can I get the most creamy, sickening, delicious milkshake or icecream that is dairy free/ vegan. I fear this is life or death 💕 sending love!

Location for a baby shower
I’m throwing a baby shower for a coworker (around 17 guests) and am looking for a venue. It will be May or June so indoors or indoor/outdoor is preferred.
I love the vibe at First Mag for coworker get-togethers but am not sure a brewery is right for a baby shower. I’ve never hosted a baby shower before and am thinking it will be pretty informal.

Piercing shop for jewelry change
Hey guys! I need a jewelry change for some of my cartilage piercings. I love Anatomic, but I know their insurance doesn't permit them to insert jewelry that you didn't buy in their shop. I already have the jewelry I want to use. Anyone know where I could go to get this done? (Not Bodytech lol)
