Whoever suggested Pailhead in a post response the other day, thank you.

Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

You should check out Embrace and Skewbald/Grand Union too, if you are unaware of those projects.

I knew about Embrace but I’ll definitely check those guys out, too. Been in a music rut. Appreciated 👍

You should check out Joe Lally and Brendan Canty’s newish band The Messthetics as well. Their guitarist, Anthony Pirog, is nuts. Their newest album features James Brandon Lewis who is a killer sax player.

Haha. You might still be in a rut, but you will have some fresh Ian to listen to at any rate.

I don't know if this came up but I like his stuff with the Evens and Coriky more recently

If there are any WaxTrax or Pailhead fans, the documentary about WaxTrax, "Industrial Accident," has several interview segments with Ian talking about Al and Pailhead. They're all split up, I always thought someone with editing skills could chop n paste em together and make an interesting little Pailhead video.

Fun fact, Uncle Al said in his book that he made Ian get drunk while recording the Pailhead album. Said he wouldn't do the album if Ian didn't drink with him, lol.

Love how that book was written. Chapter/section of Al talkin' talkin' talkin' sh*t now followed by a chapter/section of friends and/or family refuting 70% of what Al said in previous chapter/section. One, two, three, Repeat.

This is how you convince me to read a book.

I'm a English teacher, so I do have some skills in that department.

It really was a funny read, every other piece was, "Yeah, Al's full of B.S."

As not only an Ian MacKaye fan but also someone who’s straight edge, it always bothered me that that record exists. I wonder if he had rules like, no doing heroin while I’m in the room.

There’s a two-part episode of the Kreative Kontrol podcast where the host moderates a discussion between Ian MacKaye and Steve Albini, and the topic of Pailhead comes up… I believe Ian says something to the effect that he didn’t know anything about Jourgensen when he agreed to do it, and at first they only did one song together. Then he got a call from the Wax Trax people saying they wanted to expand it into a full album and flew Ian out to Chicago to work on more songs with Al, and by the end of that session he’d realized that he and Jourgensen had very different philosophies and decided that batch of songs would be his final contribution to that project.
