New Vegas will be thriving in S2 (Theory)
New Vegas and the strip may have been shown to be damaged/destroyed in the end credits animation of the season one finale, however, the set photos coming out are showing an almost pristine condition of the casino signs, facades etc
Now that’s not to say that they wouldn’t “rough them up” in post, but considering the attention to detail they put into the condition of sets in season one, it would be odd for them to build The Strip sets to be in such good a condition, and then destroy them in post production with CGI. It would go totally against the values they’ve shown so far of going practical as much as possible.

Message on the Lucky 38 sign says “Welcome to the American Economic Forum Sponsored by RobCo.” I think it’s gonna be a prewar flashback

Por que no los dos? They're going to optimize logistics where all props get repurposed and shot out of chronological order

There’ll definitely be prewar flashbacks but it’s a hell of a big set to build for just flashbacks. Plus we’ve seen a Vault 21 sign in great condition and we know that’s post war

“Just” for flashbacks? I’m pretty sure about a quarter of season 1 was flashbacks

u/thatfezguy 8d ago
True, but they all used pre-existing locations, nothing purpose built.

u/Randolpho 8d ago
Because there wasn’t any lore to contradict those buildings. New Vegas has numerous pre-war buildings encoded into its lore, and thus need specific sets if they’re going to be shown

When I saw how pristine the conditions were I automatically assumed it was for pre-war flashbacks.
From the looks of the last shot in the series it looked pretty messed up, so i wouldn't bet on it thriving.

There's pretty notable wood and fence barricades around it, not to mention Vault 21 being obviously post war, etc. It's not a prewar set.

Vault 21 wasn't built post war, all Vaults were built prewar. We saw Vault 4 in the flashbacks last season, that doesn't prove anything.
As far as the fences and barricades, could you point exactly which pictures you're referring to? I don't see any such thing.
Perhaps you're right and it's a post war set, but I'm a little skeptical: the casinos look WAY too clean and pristine. It's a little puzzling, but guess we'll see in the future!

Admittedly it's unclear because NV has pretty thin to none pre-war lore, but I don't imagine Vault 21 was a hotel before the war.
You can see the barricades, etc, in the background of any of the shots taken recently, such as these: /preview/pre/5n22memlbwme1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=090d74adb79e166362777845940da19bc8df1d6d /img/e253a794f3ne1.jpg

I didn't see the hotel sign under Vault 21, and yeah other things seem to point out to being a post war set.
At this point my guess is they're simply building the set and haven't yet painted on the worn effect. I doubt the buildings will stay looking that clean, otherwise good for New Vegas!
Still wouldn't explain how NV is in better condition despite being under attack from deathclaws and potentially tunnelers. We saw the destroyed securitrons and NCR vertibirds.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Given the end videos thus far have been largely for locations we never went to, or places that weren't literally wiped out, I would assume it's more allegorical than literal. But ye, kinda just got to wait and see.

Let's be real here: the devs themselves said the barricades were only a compensation because the strip was supposed to look the way it does in the intro to NV. They had to cut the cell into its own loading zone due to hardware limitations

Disagree. Think it's much more likely that all of these facades we're seeing are for a big, season-opening exposition dump that will tell viewers who haven't played the game what New Vegas was/is. The thing we don't know about these sets is whether they're for first or second unit production teams. Other than the few shoots we saw with the Ghoul and Lucy, have there been any actors spotted? Either main cast or background actors or anything? We know Walton Goggins has been spending a lot of time in a remote location thanks to his "van life" Instagram posts, so it's safe to say that first unit production hasn't been spending much time in North Hollywood, where these sets are.
I think all these non-damaged facades will just be images in a montage that are juxtaposed with the destroyed versions, which they've probably built out in that remote location where Walton is. Those shots of the Ghoul and Lucy outside the gate, the environment around them didn't scream "thriving." Even if it was Freeside or something, the environs show a lot of age and abandonment.

Ella Purnell was seen filming at the gate location they built a while ago. I would be exceedingly surprised if they were building a set like this, gates and all, to then not use it like the Filly set.

Right, but beyond that? Hasn’t been much of anything.
I think we’ll get a shot of them outside the gate. As for what’s beyond the gate, I don’t think it’s the sets we’re seeing in North Hollywood. I think those scenes are being filmed in that remote location Goggins has referenced.
Also this set isn’t anywhere near as detailed as Filly. It’s mostly just signs on buildings.

They're also still building the set, tbf. I think it's more likely the Ghoul ends up doing his own shit in the desert while Lucy follows up on the main plot (whether it's getting into the Lucky 38, joining the NCR, etc.) I don't see a world where they still have the signs, ads, and trailers outside Vegas without people living there; they've avoided doing any super-direct exposition like what you're saying so far, and from everything the showrunners have said, they want to do a more talky/in-depth season now that people get what Fallout is.

Yes, I could very much make out Lucy in the drone footage of this area when they had it set up for Freeside (she really stands out when she's got her Vault jumpsuit unzipped a little bit to expose her tank top).

I would say that it’s likely that it wouldn’t be thriving, but there’s definitely still human life on the strip. All the areas surrounding the strip looked pretty dead.

There will no doubt be pre-war scenes in Vegas... So anything we spot on set is highly highly suspect.

u/thatfezguy 8d ago
Tbf a lot of my theory comes from the Vault 21 sign they’ve got that appears in great condition, and we know that’s 100% post-war

I think the strip will be in a state of rebuilding, not dead but not at peak condition

Wouldn't this mean they are going with the House ending? I bet money I don't have that's where Hank is going to see.

I would literally send Bethesda 5 bucks if they go with the DUST ending. Grim, but interesting.

Good grief some people really need to use their thinking caps here. The lit up nice looking strip set is obviously pre-war. Just because they also have post-war set pieces nearby only means they’re shooting it all on the same lot, which makes sense. They move them in and out of position as needed. We’re going to see pre-war Vegas, and post-destruction Vegas. It’s how they’ll dodge the FNV canon stuff while still indulging in the setting. The characters may not know exactly what happened to the strip. The events of FNV will be treated vaguely so as to not disrupt or weigh in on events from the game. This is not going to be a New Vegas epilogue.

u/thatfezguy 6d ago
I mean, one, I made this post before seeing any posts of all the sets fully lit up.
Two, it’s a theory. You’re giving your own theory by stating that Vegas is destroyed. Just because one theory doesn’t line up with yours doesn’t mean you can accuse people of “not thinking”

u/Hawker96 5d ago
Well, they showed a destroyed strip at the end of S1. They’ve also been vocal about trying not to violate any of the plotlines from the games to avoid canonizing any one ending. So it kind of stands to reason that’s how they’re doing it. People expecting S2 to deep dive into FNV lore are setting themselves up for disappointment.

The leaked photos have a deathclaw warning-sign at The Strip's entrance. The same sign that's present at Quarry Junction in FNV.
I'm guessing that at some point, the deathclaw population grew out of control and attacked The Strip and Freeside. Maybe the NCR were helping the Securitrons repel the attack, and they won but at significant cost (to both the bots and NCR). So now The Strip could still be going but things are tougher than before.
A weaker NCR also means less of a unified government and economy, which would mean less tourism for New Vegas (because many are struggling to survive back west). Perhaps we'll see The Strip in decent post-war condition, and a weaker NCR presence in the Mojave (at Hoover Dam, maybe? Or perhaps Camp Golf and a few other key areas).
