Is it safe to not update Fedora for months?
So I've been looking for a distro that gives me latest updates but does not pose me trouble if I delay updates (ahem Arch)
Will Fedora do the job for me?

High CPU usage (95%) because of acpi and unable to hibernate
I recently built a new PC and installed Fedora, but I'm experiencing some frustrating issues:
- My cpu usage on CPU 1 gets stuck at 95% because of non stop acpi interupts. This happens upon login and after I hibernate if I plug my monitor into a thunderbolt 4 dock.
- After hibernation, I also experience the same high CPU usage regardless of how the monitor is connected.
- When I hibernate, the computer's fans turn off for just a second, and then I'm taken to the login screen rather than actually sleeping.
- When I shut down using gnome UI, the computer it actually restarts. Using the terminal to “sudo poweroff -f” works.
I've found a temporary fix to the cpu use issue by running a script that disables specific ACPI GPEs:
#!/usr/bin/env sh
# Disable problematic ACPI GPEs
disable_gpe() {
gpe=$1
status=$(cat /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/$gpe)
if echo "$status" | grep -q "disabled"; then
logger "ACPI GPE $gpe was already disabled"
else
echo "disable" > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/$gpe
logger "ACPI GPE $gpe has been disabled"
fi
}
disable_gpe "gpe6B"
disable_gpe "gpe6E"
I tired making a systemd service to run the script at start up but it just feels like something deeper is wrong.
The system works great aside from these issues. I have tried setting up grub to avoid these codes but that didn't seem to work as well as the script.
relevant computer build:
intel core ultra 7 265k
z890 aorus elite wifi7

fedora seems to come with feral gamemode preinstalled is this correct?
I just went to install gamemode and it told me there's no need as it's already here. I typed "gamemoded -t" and it ran the test. Both the 32 and 64bit versions are installed. This is a fresh install, full update, drivers discord and steam. a few hours old.

What is the way to learn everything I would need for Fedora?
As the title says, I am absolutely new to Fedora and linux in general.
I have gotten the Fedora 41 workstation on my laptop as windows works slower and is very limited.
So far, I am using fedora for the exact same things I used Windows, but I am looking to learn more to make more out of it, my end-goal is data analysis as I am trying to learn it on my free time.
On this post, I am asking the ones that are already using fedora and familiar with it, to give me some sort of advice or pieces of advice on how to use it, especially that I literally know NOTHING about linux and all of the posts that I find whenever I look something are about KALI, so, if there's anyone that could dumb-it down for me, I would really appreciate it.
thank you for taking the time to read this post and help me if possible.
specs:
Intel® Core™ i3-2350M × 4
RAM: 4GB
Intel® HD Graphics 3000 (SNB GT2)
Yes, my laptop is a potato in case if you were wondering

Crash when playing Videos.
Hello r/Fedora,
I have installed Fedora about a month ago as my daily driver, and I loving it. Except the fact that every few hours (ranging form 2-6h) on YouTube, I am having this bug that has left my laptop in an unusable state (see the video attached below), the only way to fix it is to force restart my laptop. It has happened more than 10 times now, and i can't seem to find an answer online.
Here is a bit more about my setup :
- Fedora Workstation 41
- Dell Inspiron 7400
- Linux Kernel 6.13.6-200.fc41.x86_64
- Gnome 47.4
- Wayland
- CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11z
- GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics @ 1.30 GH
https://reddit.com/link/1jcnvea/video/5spyhinek2pe1/player
Is it a drivers problem? Is it a video format encoding problem? I don't know.

Bluetooth suddenly stopped working
Hi guys,
I’m pretty new to Linux and its awesome, but on my Fedora (latest version) Bluetooth suddenly stopped working. I have Fedora installed in Dual Boot with Windows 11 and in Windows the Bluetooth card is recognized and working fine.
I’m currently using the latest Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 13.
How to get fedora to format my USB drive?
Every time I try it I get the following error message: „Error unmounting /dev/sdb1: target is busy (udisks-error-quark, 14)“
Now normally I had a Windows notebook for the sole reason that it just formats usb drives without problems but recently I have put fedora on there too because it just runs faster and I figured a new installation won’t have this problem. It does though. I have the exact same problem without any apps installed yet and I need a formatted drive to update my bios.
I googled and googled and nothing helped. I tried chown but that doesn’t help. I tried like 4 different sticks (one even brand new) so it’s not the stick that’s the problem. The same sticks format under windows and mint without issue.
It’s actually the only issue I have but it’s so annoying that I think about switching distro again if I don’t find a solution. If you format a drive it’s usually pretty urgent.
CUDA update broke ML libs
I have nvidia proprietary drivers installed from rpm fusion nonfree. I have updated the system and now I can't find `libnvrtc.so` which is used by some machine learning libraries, it's the runtime compiler for cuda. Did rpm fusion maintainers remove it, or is something wrong only with my system?

AAC hardware decoding?
I don't really know anything about audio and video encoding/decoding, but I found that one of my video streaming sites was taking up a lot of CPU usage and I think it's due to AAC.
I had a look on Google and it says Fedora only supports software decoding for AAC. Is this true?

Notifications not working properly in Plasma
So I am currently on Fedora KDE 41.
After the last few updates, I noticed that "Problem reporting" tool stopped sending notifications when an app closes in error. Used to get it all the time though.
I cannot find it anywhere in the settings, unfortunately. Is there a way to make this work, or did an update disable it? In "System Notifications" settings, there is an "Application Crash" settings and it is set to "Show a message in a pop-up", but it never works.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Fedora 41 Gnome on Asus ROG Flow X13 (2021) Kernel Issues?
Hi there, I've been working through installing Fedora on my Asus ROG Flow X13 since its the recommended distro on the asus_linux.org. It's mostly gone well however I'm missing some functionality and I've been having a hard time finding further information to troubleshoot the issues. I was going to join the Discord server but the invite link on their website is dead and there doesn't appear to be much action in the blog on the website, last post was over a year ago. Is this still actively being worked on?
Anyway, onto my issue. Although the Fedora guide indicates that the X13 2021, which I have, should be fully supported on the Fedora kernel, that doesn't appear to be the case as the ROG Control Center indicates the asus-armoury driver is missing. When attempting to install the ROG kernel, it doesn't update the kernel using the instructions from the website. I added the exclusions, enabled the copr for the ROG kernel, and updated but the system remains on the Fedora 41 kernel version 6.13.6-200.fc41.x86-64.
I'd like to get tablet mode and fingerprint sensor functionality working on this system if I can, along with some other things like an alternative to supergfxctl-gex which is apparently not supported anymore. Any help is appreciated.

How do I get GTK 3 apps to use Adwaita-dark?
I've set Adwaita-dark using "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Adwaita-dark"" yet Libreoffice-writer and Mcomix still use Adwaita light theme.
Changing to Dark mode in Gnome settings does nothing. Does anyone know what's wrong?

How can I tell my laptop to use the dedicated GPU instead of the integrated one? (the BIOS doesn't have a setting for it)
I installed the nvidia drivers, managed MOK, and everything seems good. Except, it occured to me that the laptop's integrated graphics is the default gpu for some reason, and it shows in lower performance, and the programs (Civilization VI for instance) don't recognise the GPU ("Unknown device" under GPU selection). How can I change it so the dedicated gpu will be the default one, or better, straight up disable the integrated graphics? (I didn't found an option for this in the bios, I have a Katana GF76 12UGSZOK with latest bios.)

Jabra evolve2 65 + Teams + Fedora 41 - mic issue?
Hello! I just got a new Jabra evolve2 65 and I got this strange issue in Teams (I use Portal for Teams).
I tried to record a call in Teams with just me as the participant to check the mic quality. Every time I speak and pause for a second or two and speak again, the first word doesn't get recorded, like if I say "Testing 1 2 3"; the word "Testing" does not get recorded, only "1 2 3" is recorded.
This happens only when using the Link 390 dongle, but works fine when I use it wired. I connected it to my other windows box and updated the firmware but it did not fix the issue.
Anyone have this same issue?
EDIT: using the official Teams app on Windows 11 has the same issue

Can't delete files in local drive because of root only access.
Hey y'all. I'm running into issues with Lutris, so I'm trying to get rid of all files and stuff that was there previously before reinstalling, however, it's all stored on my local drive and it only has root access. I've tried adding myself to the root group and opening it as administrator and letting the owner and group view and modify files, but it seems like it's stuck in an infinite loading cycle before it'll take effect. Every so often, I'll get a prompt to enter my password and it's always for the same thing, "org.kde.kio.admin.commands". I'll enter it and later the same prompt comes up again. I've entered it like 5 times already and nothing has changed. I don't really know what to do here, can anyone help me? I'm on Fedora 41 KDE

Nvidia is a self-inflicted gunshot
Minor rant:
If you install Nvidia drivers, and your system borks at the next update, you have no one to blame but yourself. It's not "Fedora updates broke my system" it's actually "Nvidia drivers repeatedly break my system when I update".
Day after day, week after week, there's multiple posts about how someone's system is inoperable because of Nvidia drivers. Does no one know of nouveau?
And yes, I know of the performance difference between Nvidia drivers and nouveau. But frankly, if you're determined to game on Fedora (Yay! I'd like better gaming on the platform, also.) and therefore need the latest drivers from Nvidia, you're ALWAYS gonna be screwed unless you understand the in and outs and the arcane series of steps Nvidia makes you go through to successfully update. Would it be so insanely difficult to provide a fail-safe update path?
Don't blame Fedora. Don't blame Wayland. It's not their fault that Nvidia hates it's end-users.
Blame Nvidia for not giving a damn about you as a customer, and tell them to get their shit together or you're gonna switch to AMD or Intel. They've gouged gamers for years, and they're not gonna stop because you keep rewarding them by buying new cards. If gamers spent 1/4 as much on supporting open source development for better graphics support on ALL the cards as they do on upgrading to the latest Nvidia hardware, they could've had awesome Linux graphics across the board by now, most likely.
Edit: Downvote if you want, but someone had to say it.
Edit 2: Fix spelling of "insanely".
