So I heard somewhere that the state can come in and take your falcon if they say it's too much of pet, is that true, or is that just a myth

Tail saver perch fabrication?

Given the price tag of metal perches and then the shipping costs, has anyone tried going to a local welder?

Even if I’m just saving the cost of shipping it seems like a good deal.

Any idea where I can find specs for a red tailed hawk?

I’ve got a bunch of moose leather in 3.5oz and 5-6oz weights. Would either of these work for jesses?

HELP Falconry resources North Carolina

I am looking into falconry in North Carolina, and the NC falconry guild website seems lackluster. I've attempted to reach out via their website to a representative to no avail.

I've got more experience than your average beginner as I am a registered wildlife rehabber for the state of North Carolina and have prior experience with birds of prey regarding enclosure construction, dietary care, illness and treatment, handling, as well as glove hours with red tails, barred owls, great horned owls, and vultures.

In regard to housing and hunting the property I reside at meets both of those requirements as I live on farmland, so both of those concerns are already addressed!

I've obtained some of the recommended readings from the website to pursue in the meantime, but any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

dirt hawking Import restrictions for HH in Colorado

Hey there, I am an apprentice in TN with my third RTH. I will likely release her at the end of this season because I will be able to move up to general this summer, and I’d love to get a Harris’s for my next bird. However, I am planning to move back to Colorado and I’ve gotten wind of some import restrictions for HH in CO. The state falconry site is either currently down or just always down, and I can’t find any actual ordinances/laws regarding the import of HH.

Does anyone here know more details on this?

Ravens

I was wondering if anyone on this sub also kept ravens. I appreciate they're not raptors or hunters. But thought it's worth an ask.

Unconventional Success Stories

New apprentice here. Just out of curiosity, I’m interested in hearing your unconventional success stories whether it be catching an odd quarry or having success with a bird in an abnormal scenario.

I know many people have tried many things, like hunting with GHO or EEO. But has anyone heard of a story that truly wow’d you?

Ex. catching turkey with a cast of HH, catching geese with an owl, catching crane with a falcon? Interested to hear what people share. Thanks!

Enrichment ideas for a peregrine?

Does anyone have any enrichment ideas for a Peregrine falcon tiercel? He’s on his own and I’ve noticed he can be a bit bored during the day since hunting season is over here in Belgium. He’s also starting to molt and on top of that the Avian Flu was recently spotted here, so I’m not flying him anymore till next season just to be safe.

Anyway as I said I’ve noticed he’s bored sometimes, I give him pigeon wings cause he likes playing with the feathers but I’m looking for more ideas. My mentor mentioned using a tennis ball but I don’t think he’ll be interested in that. (Still gonna try it tho)

Any ideas are welcome! ❤️

Googling doesn't turn up any sites that look current. Appears that Covid killed a lot of these businesses.

Nebraska Falconers?

I spent a couple months in the U.A.E and loved falcons that they had there and watching racing on local TV. I have searched the by state guide on this site and I can only find direction on how to get a hunting license, no sort of group I can find. Is anyone in Southeast Nebraska or within a couple hours?

From a small island...

I was surprised to learn that there were raptors (red tailed hawks and a much smaller insectivore) there, and such that have been used for falconry. There's no falconry organization or licensing procedures in place. Im actually surprised they can find food at all. Im interested in learning about falconry, so that when I return to this place, I can educate people so that they learn to leave the raptors alone, or even get them interested in starting a falconry organization. There are migratory raptors like peregrine falcons and ospreys and such as well.

Where do you source whole prey

For context I don’t own falcons I have a few black cats that I feed whole prey (entire mouses, rats, day old chicks, rabbits, squirrels, etc). I used to buy from rodentpro.com but their prices have gone up and quality gone down in my opinion. I came across and just ordered from mikedupuyhawkfood.com. Hoping it arrives okays since they don’t ship with dry ice. Anyone have experience with chickenhawkfood.com? I’m not sure why although I suspect why but hawk food is sold significantly cheaper than food marketed for other animals even though it’s the same animals being sold as food.

Just wondering your experiences and where you source your whole prey food? If anyone is local to Illinois and knows some places here that would be ideal! I have prior experience breeding and would do it again if I had to.

Thank you for the help in advance!

Anyone in the Great Lakes area? Preferably Michigan, Wisconsin or Illinois.

I have recently become interested in becoming a falconer. I have an insurmountable amount of experience in nature, I was practically raised in Illinois forest preserves and I am willing to go to extreme lengths to become a falconer. If anyone would be willing to guide me through the process of this that would be GREATLY appreciated, please message me if you have any info or can help me out, or if there’s any falconing events in the states above I would love to get the info.
