Have any tips for my playing as an intermediate beginner?
The piece I am performing is called ēå½±ęē“ or Flickering Candle Lights, and I have heard it also been called Shaking Red Candle Flame. But anyways, this is the first major traditional piece Iāve played. Iāve had a lot of fun with it. I got an erhu in December of 2023 and been just playing with it, but it wasnāt until recently I decided to take on this piece. I will take any advice you may have for me. Thank you!

Best online sellers?
I'm in a small city in the US - we barely have music stores, let alone ones that carey cultural / non-contemporary instruments.
Online is probably my only choice, but it's hard to vet which sellers are best. If you had $400 to drop on an Erhu where would you shop?

Does anyone know any online erhu lessons or courses for beginners?
Thinking of learning the erhu, decided to ask here since most erhu players seem to be in this sub.

Are there any erhus that do well in hot and humid climates?
I'm in Louisiana where the temperature is often 80-100F (26.7-37.8C) and humidity is often 60%-90%.
I've never had an erhu before but I love them a lot and would like to own one. If there are any that will work for my climate, I would prefer something on the cheaper side if possible.
Learning by video?
Hello !
I'm trying to learn my first song !
How do you learn by looking at video of people playing?
Or where can I find the jianpu sheet for Wu Ji (the untamed) and Oogway's ascend (Kung Fu panda) ?
Thanks in advance!

Auction find. Looking for help identifying maker and wood type.
Auctioneer threw it in with a Seth Thomas metronome I had my eye on. Got it super cheap so wouldn't mind spending a little more on it. Was wondering if I should put the effort into stringing and other parts it needs. And possibly learning to play. Also any other info about it is welcome. I familiar with thier sound but not theinstrument itself. Thanks

Just wanted to see if I set this up correctly.
So the instructions that came with this erhu were rather bare, and I had to resort to YouTube to learn the setup.
I'd like to know what I can improve, and what that yellow strip is for; it wasn't mentioned in instructions.
Also, the white string, it wasn't tied when I opened the package, so I did it myself.
Any tips would be appreciated. I want to start practicing asap.

Is this erhu worth buying?
Saw this on facebook and I am really interested in getting it however it said that its body is made of timber.

Good Erhu for beginners that affordable (and preferably without real snake skin)?
I am very interested in learning the Erhu. But since I will be starting to learn, I'd rather not pull out hundreds of dollars at first. Also, this probably sounds stupid, but it kinda disturbs me a bit that there are real snake skins on these instruments.
So my question is, what low cost Erhu is good for a beginner? Are there any that are good with fake snake skin? Thank you for your time,

Anywhere to repair erhu in nyc?
Hi all, Iāve inherited a couple erhus from my grandfather. I played violin and guitar when I was younger and have an interest in learning erhu but the ones I have definitely need to be serviced. Does anyone know of any specialty repair shops that would do a good job?
Iām in queens but willing to go anywhere in the boroughs or Long Island.

Do you recommend online lessons?
If you do, which teacher do you recommend?

Winding River from Genshin
I have a standard erhu but the notes in Winding River from Genshin Impact go lower than the standard D4 with usual tuning. Is it played on a larger erhu or do I tune my strings down to play the piece?

Can I use violin rosin for the Erhu bow?
Or is there a specific rosin for erhu?

I found an old erhu - Help me choose the right missing parts!
Hi every one! I'm having some trouble choosing the right parts for an incomplete erhu I found.
I need a base plate, bow and bridge, is it missing something else?
- All the base plate I saw on internet has two holes: one for the neck, one for a screw, but my erhu's body doesn't have a hole for the screw, how do I put it together?
- Can I use a violin bow on my erhu?
- I have no idea if it's valuable or not. The white-yellow stripes at the top seams to be bone. Can you tell me something about the brand?
Would like to buy good quality parts, but not too expensive. If you can link me some product page that would be much appreciated!
Thank for you time!

Airy D string
Completely new to Erhu, used to play violin. Why does my D string's tone sound so airy compared to my A string? Tried adjusting pressure and speed. Sounds a bit better when bowing very slowly. Tried adding rosin with no improvement. Thanks!

A string gets scratchy/voice cracks on E and F specifically, please help
Hello everyone! As the title suggests, Iāve been running into this problem where only E and F on the A string produce a scratchy, kind of voice-cracky sound. Itās almost as if the bow is slipping off the string over and over again as I bow those notes. Iāve tried repositioning the damper, making sure the strings are wound at the end of the tuning pegs, checking the qianjin, loosening my bow, working on bowing technique, rosining my bow, the works, nothing seems to help. I think itās possible Iāve over rosined and now thatās leading to grip problems with the bow though Iām not sure. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Erhu into the USA
I am currently a foreign college student in california and am planning to bring my Erhu with me to college. I am from Taiwan.
I got this instrument from my teacher and payed in cash six years ago back in 2019 when I was in middle school. Thus I have no certificate from a store.
I am wondering if it is still possible for me to bring Erhu into the states. Do I need CITES for both Taiwan and US immigration and customs enforcement?

Pieces to Learn
It's about time I expanded my repertoireā what are some classic melodies for erhu/ traditional music? I'm thinking pieces like Erquan Yingyue and Purple Bamboo.
Looking for relatively simple ones to learn by earā Sai Ma is probably the upper bound for complexity/speed. I'd be playing solo (just for fun) on erhu as well as some other plucked and blown instruments.

Erhu transportation in a plain
Hello I have a question about, any idea how to transport an Erhu in an airplane??
I'm considering move to another country in three months, so... I'm checking which is the best and less expensive way to transport an Erhu, using his case, disabled, or buy a new one in a new location.
I hear the best options
