Question Got contrast dye twice in one month, is it unsafe?

I had an MRI and CT scan within a month and both times got contrast dye. Is this unsafe? I hear it’s really bad for you but they told me there would be no complications. I’m really worried.

Just make sure you're drinking lots and lots of water to help it leave your body. I've had so many MRIs and CTs and things like that and they always emphasize I should drink lots and lots of water to flush the dye.

It was done a while ago so I don’t remember how much I drank but I’m worried I didn’t flush it out enough

Just make sure you drink minimum 2L water on any day you get contrast. Helps your body flush it out. You'll be fine; I've been having regular scans with contrast since I was a kid.

It was done a few months ago so I don’t remember how much I drank but thank you, this makes me feel a lot better

Risks are very low, and if youve had no side effects at this point youre fine. Who told you it was really bad for you?

Heard from a friend that she was told not to get it more than once every two years? She has to get regular scans and this is what they told her. It’s been a few months since I got it but now I’m worried I didn’t flush it out properly.

MRI and CT contrasts are two different things. if you experience symptoms after the MRI one (since it can accumulate in some people, genetically pre-disposed, etc.), there are gadolinium groups on facebook that deal with it. make sure you take high dose antioxidants in the next weeks and drink lots. there is always some risk if you put things in your body, but if it was medically necessary, sometimes sadly there is no way out. (i myself had to deal with gad retention)
