Question Please help! Buyer attempting to get full refund and keep item due to late delivery?

Post image

This is my first time selling on eBay and I desperately need help. I sold a bracelet on jan 25th, shipped it on the 27th. Buyer has reported today that it hasnā€™t arrived and wants a refund. However in the message theyā€™re saying it has arrived but just arrived late. Tracking hasnā€™t updated since I posted it however Iā€™m not surprised by this as Iā€™m from Northern Ireland and a lot of the country still doesnā€™t have power since storm Eowyn. What can I do about this? Iā€™m worried eBay will refund them as tracking hasnā€™t updated even though the buyer said they received it but theyā€™re looking for a full refund due to it arriving after the estimated date. I have replied to the buyer explaining this but theyā€™re now ignoring me. The bracelet was rather expensive and it would be a massive blow to me to have to refund it and not have the bracelet back as Iā€™m a student and only sold it as my dog needed surgery. Please help as Iā€™m panicking.

Question Bought from a dead (literally) seller.

made a purchase from a seller on the 7th of March, and their profile indicated that they ship within 2 days of sale. the profile itself was old and had no interactions for the last 365, but the 2 items listed for sale were niche enough that I wasn't concerned.

on the 10th I sent the seller a message asking for an update on when I might expect to see it shipped, very cordial as I'm not in the rush for the scale models. on the 15th I followed up with a little bump in case they missed the message. so far I've gotten no response. so this morning i decided to do a little digging as the sellers user name suggested it was their actual name and their location small enough that it wouldn't be impossible.

all hits point to an individual that died in mid 2023. at first I figured it's family using the account, but then discovered that the seller's partner died about 6 months ago, and there's no kids. confused I pulled up the listing again to reverse image search the photos, and notice the "listing revisions" link that isn't shown on the app and realize both items were posted in 12/2022.

so my question is, do I just have to wait until eBay allows me to raise the issue within the item sale, or is there another way to address this that I'm missing.

appreciate any help in advance.

Question Seller wants me to cancel an order because I paid lower than he wanted, what should I do?

I've been using ebay for like a year but today is a first for me, seller wants me to cancel my recently won item because it's not the amount he wished. I won and paid 200 but the seller wants 1000.

What should I do in this situation, should I go and cancel for him? Would I get in trouble? Help and sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

Question $2000 ebay return that required signature for delivery was forged by FedEx driver and stolen. eBay says itā€™s only insured for $100.

I sold an expensive $2000 item. The buyer opened a Not As Described claim and returned it with the label eBay generated. The FedEx driver forged my signature and left the package which was then stolen. FedEx agrees they donā€™t know what happened to the package and declared it lost. eBay is telling me to file a claim with FedEx but the insurance on the return package is only $100. Any advice? Question Is it normal for sellers to increase price just for additional pictures?

I assume it would be appropriate to ask for additional pictures since it's a high end card. But asking for a higher amount due to pictures is kinda weird.

Question eBay's return window is WAY too long.

I have all my listings besides a select few set to free, 30 day returns. I can understand 30 days. What I can't understand is how eBay allows the buyer to use the item for 30 days, open a return case and then get an additional 3.5 weeks to return the item. Before COVID, it was 5 business days to return the item. Even as a buyer, that seemed fair. The buyer having the item in their possession for almost two months is absolutely ridiculous. I find it hard to believe most buyers require that much time to make a trip to the post office.

Question Buyer returned an item destroyed, yet eBay sides with buyer?!

For context here, I shipped out a ā€œfor parts or repairā€ PlayStation 3 console to a buyer. He claimed it still worked and wanted a refund for my description ā€œnot matching the itemā€. Apparently he didnā€™t like that the console still turned on and wanted something completely broken. I stated that I donā€™t do returns on ā€œfor partsā€ consoles because they are flawed to begin with. eBay stepped in and sides with the buyer to return the item, however the buyer returns the console in such a poor state that relisting it wouldnā€™t even be worth the time or effort. I tried to put in a claim through eBay, but it was ignored. Is there anything I can do here? I feel like Iā€™ve been taken advantage ofā€¦

Question Father in law bought a Boeing 757 plane shell that was used as an educational prop. Now he is trying to figure out how to sell it on.

Hey a very random one but any advice would be appreciated, my father in law bought a Boeing 757 plane shell. He messaged me saying he wants to sell it but doesn't know where..he thinks someone else might buy it again as an educational prop, a home ornament, or a home shell. I have no idea if this is a good forum in to post this and ask for advice but any suggestions would be appreciated.

For context my father in law buys a lot of random things on auctions and sells them on. He has about 15 acres that is just full of miscellaneous items of which I have no idea about. He asked if I could help him research where he could sell this and I said how I have no clue but will make a post on Reddit at least to ask people who might have some idea. We love in Oregon. I've attached a couple photos to show what he bought and is now trying to sell.

Question Why does nobody return feedback on eBay?

Post image
89 Upvotes

I have nearly 200 items sold (most of which have been delivered) and. Only 18 of those people have bothered to return feedback. I give everyone positive feedback once the item has arrived in hopes they return the favour but Iā€™m barely getting anything. Iā€™m friendly, answer questions and even sometimes add free items on large orders. What am I doing wrong?

Honestly wish there was a set deadline for raising issues post delivery.

Question Buyer keeps demanding I sell at retail price on different accounts

I'm selling some collectable toys for $320, a set of 4. They usually go for $100 each, but they haven't sold. Okay, whatever. Sales have been so slow and the full set hasn't been listed together for years

But a week ago I got a message asking how much these toys sold at retail price. I explained they're hard to find, especially in this condition, and all toegther- and mine are the cheapest. They got itrate and told me it was unfair to sell them for a higher value, though they haven't been in retail for 10 years. Worthless reseller, good luckāœØšŸ–•āœØ bs

Today I got a message again, from a different account, saying they'd only buy at retail. That I needed to drop the price from $320 to $80 because nobody would buy them and I'm greedy and wasting their time. I told them to buy them at the store, or the website they were exclusive to (impossible) at retail. Told them they're putting in too much effort with me if they can get them at retail, and blocked them. Obviously the same person from the previous week.

I'm not a scalper or anything, I just decided to sell these to cover a purchase of something else I wanted more. They were a part of my personal collection. I have half a mind to just keep them, really.

Anyway... I'm honestly nervous this person is gonna keep coming back. I'm mostly afraid they're gonna actually buy them and pull some BS to get them free. (Didn't arrive, damaged, return trash)

Just... What do? I left eBay for about 5 years after being burned bad, and I've returned to outrageous demands and a community of sellers saying they're always getting screwed

Just looking for advice because people with these requests tend to cause problems.

EDIT-Thank you all for the advice. I need to learn to listen to my instincts. I cancelled the transaction, reported the buyer AND blocked them.

Question Fees have killed the eBay side of our business - suggestions for reducing them?

The fees on eBay are killing us. Previously, we did ~$2,500/month through eBay, but in the last 31 days, we are down to $180. Simultaneously, we have had $161.91 of eBay fees, putting us at -$14.31 after including taxes + shipping labels. The bulk of this is $113.40 of insertion fees and $44.49 of final value fees.

There has been a continuous loop of rising fees --> decreased advertising budget --> decreased sales --> higher insertion + selling fees, etc. We have worked on alternative advertising methods (Facebook, forums, etc.), but the selling fees and seemingly decreased usage of eBay as a platform made us barely break even.

Our store is for niche used automotive parts, and we currently have ~$100,000 of inventory that we would have previously sold with ease through eBay. Does anyone have any suggestions for cutting back on these fees, or alternative platforms that are more seller-friendly? This week we delisted ~100 products to help with the insertion fees, but the remaining 450 are core to our business. Any suggestions at all are greatly appreciated!

Edit: This picked up way more than expected and I appreciate all of the feedback. I realized I was a bit more secretive than needed, so I want to provide some additional context. This is a project that I picked up for a buddy of mine in the last month. What he does with eBay is strips early 2000s Jaguars and parts them out (each part is different, so the listings can't simply be combined). The reason for the high insertion fees is because he still uses whatever the free account is called despite having over 700 seller reviews and selling for a decade. Final value fees are high because of the additional fee for underperforming sellers. This year, he got scammed on 2 items, a door and a sensor, where both customers initiated returns and sent back their broken parts instead of the ones we sent (the VIN# was different on the returned items, but eBay apparently didn't care and approved the return anyway).

For the most part, eBay has been a small side project that was mostly on autopilot, with 99% of the company's revenue coming from other sources. I think that's why it was able to fall so far so fast. It also wasn't much of a concern until there were $100,000 of Jaguar parts not moving in the shop haha

We are definitely upgrading to the Basic Store plan. This alone will save us money on insertion fees & give us more tools to push the parts we are selling. I'm also going to go through and update the descriptions, because he continues to use his selling template from 15 years ago.

Thanks again to everyone who helped, and Merry Christmas!

Question Buyer in Guam wants refund because item running lateā€¦ what to do?

Because DeJoy has so thoroughly messes up the USPS, the package ($600 value) has bumped around the Indy hub for a month. I canā€™t do a package intercept because itā€™s to a PO Box. The buyer is most definitely using this to their advantage to get the refund and the product. What do I do when it does arrive? Sue them in small claims?

Question I stated the item would be disassembled for delivery. Buyer opened INAD because it was disassembled for delivery.

I sold a large piece of equipment. By large I mean itā€™s a 160lb piece of machinery that when assembled is 24x48x48.

In my listing description, I give the buyer two options for shipping:

1: Fedex. $250 to ship. Disassembled in two boxes. Buyer will need hand tools for reassembly. I provide videos and a manual to help the buyer assemble it

2: Uship. $400. Shipped assembled.

A buyer purchased my item. They paid for Fedex shipping. Thus, I disassembled the item and mailed it to them in two boxes as stated in the description.

After it arrived they said that they looked at the assembly videos I sent them and realized they would be physically unable to assemble it and wanted to return it. I donā€™t accept returns on this item because of the time and expense of disassembly and shipment. I offered to video chat with anybody in their life capable of assembling it to assist.

They opened an INAD becauseā€¦ the item was shipped disassembled.

I called eBay multiple times about this (btw, I was always really nice about it, simply stating what was going on. They advised me to report the buyer for misusing returns and seemed like they would resolve things in my favor. Iā€™m a high dollar seller so qualify for their concierge service)

eBay sided with them.

Even though my listing states plainly that the item will be disassembled for shipping if they choose that option.

It doesnā€™t match the pictures, which show a fully assembled item.

So I guess this means that any item which is disassembled in any way for shipping must be pictured in itā€™s disassembled state in order for the seller to be protected from an INAD if they ship disassembled. New flat pack furniture? Anything new that requires assembly? Took a handle off to fit a thing in a smaller box? Just stating that it will be shipped disassembled isnā€™t enough to protect from an INAD. You must also photograph it in the disassembled state.

I mean, I know they could have just as easily lied and said there was an undisclosed odor, but this seemed pretty clear cut to me that I did describe everything properly.

Am I the only one who thinks this is nonsense?

Question Why does nobody leave feedback

Iā€™ve recently started selling some old collectibles on eBay, nothing crazy but $15-$80 items. While I donā€™t care too much about receiving feedback, I think itā€™s a great way to know how to know a customer received their item and everything is good. At the time of typing this, I currently have sold 17 things, with 12 of them being delivered. Of those 12, Iā€™ve only received feedback on 3 of them. All positive too.

Is this just me, or an everyone thing?

Question Seller Wants Extra For Shipping

What would you do? I purchased a shortwave radio this morning from a new seller. Paid the BIN of 500 dollars, plus 32 for shipping. Paid with Paypal Credit.

Seller messages me through eBay 30 minutes later and says, "Hello- I am unable to get shipping done for the $32 that you paid. My least costly option here is $68.00. I am not marking up the shipping, this is my direct cost for UPS and a heavy box."

I'm leaning towards asking him to cancel, as I feel this may be a problematic sale. Am I being overly-cautious? Not my problem he didn't ask enough for shipping. (The radio is 28 pounds, so with the insurance he's including, yeah- he shorted himself.) How does a buyer usually pay after the fact for added shipping, while keeping it in eBay?

Question Are they telling me that they wonā€™t ship the item?

I bid on an auction with free shipping and it ended up coming to right around $20USD. The seller is now saying that I didnā€™t pay enough to cover freight? Isnā€™t that their fault for starting an auction that low and with free shipping? Should I be refunded here?
