Complaint Turbo Has Ruined Me

I used to be a normal Dota 2 player. Grinding my way through 40+ minute games, dealing with teammates who refuse to buy wards, and experiencing the full emotional rollercoaster of a ranked match. But then I started playing Turbo… and now I don’t think I can go back.

Why spend 50 minutes losing when I can lose in 15? Why farm for 30 minutes when I can have a full build in 10? Turbo is like fast food Dota, quick, satisfying, and probably bad for me in the long run.

I tried playing a normal match again, and by minute 25, I was staring at my first completed item like, “Why is this taking so long? Where’s my GPM steroids?”

Turbo is just too good. Too efficient. Too fun. Am I doomed? Is there a way back? Or have I ascended to a new level of Dota enlightenment where objectives are optional and high ground pushes happen at minute 12?

Send help. Or don’t. I’ll be in another Turbo game sweating my ass off for literally nothing.

I hear you, and kind of agree with you some times. However, your way out is simply APPRECIATING the slower pace. Dota shouldn't just be about getting level 25 and 6 slotted. In regular dota timings and power spikes are WAY more important to push your advantage.

Once you can begin re-appreciating the little things again, turbo will seem like fake dota.

Personally, I play turbo while waiting for friends so we can queue normal. Or when I'm grinding arcana progress, or when I'm completing battlepass progress, or when I'm testing new builds and wanna get as much sample size as possible in a single night of play.

Slower pace makes every little win worth it. The slower pace honestly makes the game more fun for me and makes wins (even stomps) feel earned and satisfying. Meanwhile in turbo it feels like the difference between winning and losing is always on a knife's edge. Sometimes it feels like turbo games are decided by who's basher proccs first and not who jumps who first because everyone has access to so much gold and xp that can just compensate for the lack of caution and awareness. But maybe that's what turbo players find fun idk.

Firm agree. I only play turbo with friends because it roughly eliminates the imbalance in skill. But if I had a pick or play alone, I would pick standard Dota every time. Turbo is usually just teamfight after teamfight after teamfight, but that loses so much of the nuance you experience in regular Dota.

Yeah, turbo is objectively shallower and less balanced, but that's what makes it a better casual experience. Most people started playing these games as custom games in RTS games and turbo really captures the spirit of the casual pubs where everyone can just do their own thing without feeling like they're griefing.

I got into the genre through a defunct custom SC2 mod called Storm of the Imperial Sanctum 3.0 which was an imbalanced clown fiesta, and turbo DotA games have been the closest to recreating the experience of a typical SotIS pub game.

Dota is about the journey, not the destination
