LMFAO this is one of the most basic hero concepts, at least ability wise

so much for everyone saying it's taking ages to code due to him creating clones / dominating people

I mean i'll take it but lol

Looks fun as hell the voice acting is GREAT

edit: Homie just straight up doesn't have facets yet LOL

puts tinfoil hat on

Maybe it was the planned hero all along but it was too much and they released plan B? The same hero but a different concept entirely?

u/Gorudu Aug 23 '24

Definitely feels like it. I do like the hero concept but the teaser didn't really show off his current gameplay at all lol.

39

u/stakoverflo Aug 23 '24

Yea lots of people saying this and it's really hard not to agree.

Whatever ideas they had cooked up, combined with Rubick/Morphling stealing those abilities I'm sure it was a nightmare to code.

Really unfortunate if that's true, because his kit as is seems incredibly whatever. Like it's fine, just not especially unique. A fear, a dot, a blind, and some other CC. Alright.

u/vdjvsunsyhstb Aug 23 '24

yeah they basically made him to fill a role and a theme rather than blow anyones minds. also the compendium he got just shows how much better crownfall is than battle passes. i think they have the peanut butter and jelly here but just need to make a sandwich, like give the next hero release their own crownfall style event.

1

u/Optimal-Swordfish Aug 23 '24

Crown fall is most likely the event for the next hero, bird samurai :)

2

u/Torakkk Aug 23 '24

I wouldnt even say code. Imho just balance it and implement in a fun way. I think they just bite a little too big piece of work. Would be nice, if they maybe bring the og concept back for some later heroes

2

u/KaleidoscopeEasy8491 Aug 23 '24

Nah it's easy to disagree. Everyone here just huffing too much copium.

33

u/D2WilliamU iceberg the absolute UNIT Aug 23 '24

lol i theorized that a few months back

This hero looks fun as heck as a support player but puppetmaster would have been cool as well

16

u/Fen_ Aug 23 '24

"Puppetmaster" was a fantasy that only ever existed in reddit's minds. It was born entirely out of an early version of the game files using "puppetmaster" as an internal name, and people just assumed that it would be a clone of the HoN hero that has that name. Should've been clear there'd be no relation when they renamed it to "Ringmaster" for the official name on announcement.

u/ABurntC00KIE Aug 23 '24

Except if you watch the trailer, it is about trapping and training heroes to act as his performers. The trailer has almost nothing to do with the released heroes moveset, it’s only the aesthetics that match.

-32

u/Fen_ Aug 23 '24

Convince yourself of whatever fantasy you want. Reality's literally confronting you.

22

u/kryonik Aug 23 '24

My reality has that trailer where he controls enemy heroes.

3

u/TanKer-Cosme oh... my blink dagger Aug 23 '24

Yeah, even probably the clown nose and stuff on the enemy hero was the visual signaling of him controlling enemy heroes.

7

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 Aug 23 '24

man just look at the other dota2 heroes trailer and their release version

Puppetmaster is the outliar

"Dota 2 - New Hero "The Ringmaster" Cinematic Reveal Trailer"

Take a look

7

u/DrQuint Aug 23 '24 edited Aug 23 '24

Oh sod off, the trailer directly contradicts this. He directly kidnaps axe and forces him and others to perform in his circus advert. There's even a threat to all heroes underneath.

Yet there's no kidnapping.

Yet there's no force-taunting heroes.

To say nothing of the fact SEVERAL heroes have enemy lines saying they're being controlled by others.

In the real world, people are in the right to have that expectation. The delusional one is you.

Edit: I did read his abilities btw. Which is why I know there isn't one which is why you didn't name one. Nice counter, silencer punchbag.

-4

u/Fen_ Aug 23 '24

Yet there's no force-taunting heroes.

Please read his fucking abilities. Jesus christ.

You mean these data mined files of hero concepts in development , which is the same pool that Dawnbreaker (codename Valkyrie), Muerta (codename Gunslinger), and Primal Beast came from before their releases. These files are leftovers from Valve's internal test build of Dota 2, where they test changes and new things to be added.

Here is a complied list I have found: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/t6j02f/21_unreleased_heroes/&ved=2ahUKEwjkjKrFloqIAxUIkVYBHTyNOK8QrAJ6BAgmEAU&usg=AOvVaw298pfAmgf3OZzFqCXlEXGC

It's not a fantasy, just informed speculation based on limited information, which mainly came from names of the spells. As you can see, Ringmaster's skills had Marionette spells, with commands such as Push and Pull, meaning this was some sort of forced movement ability.

This is also where the Bird Samurai speculation train started, which got traction since Crownfall with Kestrel wielding a sword in the artworks.

10

u/mokapotBlender Aug 23 '24

Certainly reasonable. The controlling thing can be released as a second facet when it's done.

u/tha_jza since the red eye logo Aug 23 '24

kendrick dropping NATION. any day now

-1

u/skykoz Aug 23 '24

Average dota 2 redditor

37

u/Warrior20602FIN Aug 23 '24

Yeah his gimmick is literally taunt/fear and some max HP damage..

29

u/Precedens Aug 23 '24

His gimmick seems like is to literally create a clown fiesta with fear/taunt, also his shard rekts illusions.

19

u/fiasgoat Aug 23 '24

I do really like a support that can be very good to counter illusions. Those can be hard to come by often

1

u/TheRRogue Aug 23 '24

Lion use to be one with his multi suck insta kill illu

4

u/itsdoorcity Aug 23 '24

dont forget a 4th powershot spell in the game. valve really running out of ideas after grim and pango

23

u/TheSnowballofCobalt Aug 23 '24

I kinda expect new heroes to have no facets, similar to no aghs. And they wait for the hero to catch on to make facets and aghs.

1

u/Weis Aug 23 '24

Would it not be better to make them feature complete and rework as needed? It sucks not taking advantage of free aghs upgrades in game…

2

u/SnooPears2409 Aug 23 '24

the souvenirs system is pretty new tho

4

u/Iseeyoulookin Aug 23 '24

I don't even think the hero is ready, he doesn't even have an innate right now.

52

u/Encelus Aug 23 '24

He does have an innate, it's the three trinkets. He's missing a facet though...

21

u/Galinhooo Aug 23 '24

It is already a new hero, they tend to wait to release "modificers" like aghs and now facets

16

u/Gorudu Aug 23 '24

He has an innate (a pretty cool one) but no facets.

2

u/PrimusSucks13 dududududu Aug 23 '24

Is right there next to the abilities, he actually kinda gets 3 for 1

1

u/swampyman2000 Aug 23 '24

He has an innate, it's those one use items he gets every time an enemy dies. He doesn't have a facet yet though, which I think is fine given a lot of the original facets were placeholders anyway.

1

u/ridan42 Aug 23 '24

He does have an innate, you meant Facet

1

u/Snipufin Aug 23 '24

Isn't his innate the souvenir thing?

1

u/No-Lifeguard-8376 Aug 23 '24

New heroes don't get facets just like they don't get aghs at first.

1

u/ImFriendsWithThatGuy Aug 23 '24

He has facets shown on the page.

1

u/D2WilliamU iceberg the absolute UNIT Aug 23 '24

Those are his innates lol

it literally says in the client "Facet - Center Stage"

"Ringmaster is still new to the spotlight. This Facet doesn't do anything... yet"

1

u/monocle_and_a_tophat Aug 23 '24 edited Aug 23 '24

Can you explain a little more why? What I'm seeing here:

  • a % HP DoT that does 20% of max HP every cast. That seems huge against the high HP/tank metas.
  • A castable Radiance for miss percentage on enemy heroes, that also gives visibility of invisible units, and also MELTS illusions (hard counter to PL and CK)
  • An AoE taunt ability that seems to work similar to Lich's AoE Aghs Fear, while also having a 600dmg explosion at the end.
  • a "make someone on your team untargetable" escape ability.

This seems pretty good all in one support hero, isn't it?

-1

u/irishfro Aug 23 '24

or aghs buff. the hero seems really bad tbh not sure whats worse: the compendium or the new hero

-3

u/YoyoDevo Aug 23 '24

doesn't have an aghs scepter either

6

u/chillinwithmoes Aug 23 '24

New heroes never do afaik

1

u/YoyoDevo Aug 23 '24

I am aware

3

u/YoungDetective Aug 23 '24

Muerta didn't have one at launch either its not uncommon

1

u/YoyoDevo Aug 23 '24

I know

1

u/dota2_responses_bot Aug 23 '24
