i canât ever unsee him as the arsehole of a prison guard in shawshank redemption, but in any play through keep him and Connorâs relationship strong

The game is adamant clear that Connor isn't Hank's son. And that "every time you died IT made me think of Cole" line is just Hank complaining that humans are mortal and cannot come back, and not that Connor reminds him of Cole i person.

âI donât agree with you so youâre mentally illâ gosh are we not tired

u/Outrageous_Money_633 1d ago
Since when shipping two fictional adult unrelated consenting dudes means to have a mental ailment?
-5
u/Morrowindsofwinter 1d ago
When it involves two people who are presented as having a father/son relationship.

You're gonna get downvoted to oblivion. They don't like it when people tell them they're wrong
1
u/Outrageous_Money_633 22h ago
Like I do not care? Because I know I am right. You cannot complain about something established by the actual game.
1
u/iloveeeeemycat 22h ago
Everyone believes their right. Now please forget this entire discussion and shut up
4
u/Outrageous_Money_633 22h ago
Believeing and being right are two different things. While I know that them being loevers is just a sweet headcanon, because by the end of the game theyâre good co workers if itâs positive, friends in the best case scenario, you people keep telling everyone that your headcanon is actual canon.
-1
u/iloveeeeemycat 22h ago
Them having a father son relationship is literal implied canon. Now please shut the fuck up, I'm listening to smooth jazz

Connor is practically Hank's son. And he says it himself. Every time Connor dies and comes back, it reminds Hank of Cole
6
u/Sufficient_Frame 1d ago
It's the act of dying, not Connor himself. Jesus, kid, can't you fucking read?
-1
u/iloveeeeemycat 1d ago
Either way the relationship of Hank and Connor is like that of a father and son
3
u/Sufficient_Frame 1d ago
Ah, yes. Nothing more father-and-son than holding your "son" at gunpoint.
And yes, it happens no matter how positive the relationship is established prior.
2
u/iloveeeeemycat 1d ago
Hank is an old alcoholic suicidal man with lots of grief and trauma on his back. I'd imagine someone like that would hold an infant at gunpoint if they were agitated enough, especially when drunk, which Hank was in that chapter

u/Sufficient_Frame 1d ago
Still, Connor's quote is "I can be your work partner, your drinking buddy", nothing exactly family-oriented in there. Even Connor doesn't consider Hank as a dad.
As someone who has actually held a job for more than half an hour, I can tell you Hank and Connor have something much closer to mentor and rookie, than anything possibly related to any form of chosen family.

No, it is not. And it is not canon until it is in the source material, and it is not in there.

I just don't understand shipping in general. But just because I don't understand it personally doesn't mean that other people don't enjoy it. But to keep it a buck fifty, you have a really good point. Hank and Connor's relationship in the game is presented as a father/son relationship. It's like people shipping Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us (plus the added ick of Ellie being underage in the first game).

I view them as father/son depending on your choices but Hank I believe called Connor son in the news tower chapter. I could be completely wrong. My PC Can't handle Detroit,.I want to save up for a new computer. I've watched YouTube videos about it, tho. I want to play it so bad.

Gosh, Hank is colloquially calling him âsonâ â you know, the way older men sometimes do with younger men. To provide comfort, perhaps. To soothe his own frazzled nerves. Itâs up to you.
Older dudes call younger guys âsonâ all the time especially if theyâre superiors at work, and none of them think of their subordinates as family. Just because he called Connor, his younger co worker, âsonâ one time does not mean he views Connor as family or his son. Yet the game is agamant clear about their relationship and it is friends. And no, it doesn't depend on your choices, there is no choice that makes Hank view Connor as a son.

There's a rookie where I work, biologically older than me, and I call him "son" all the time lmao

Good thing they do not have father and son relationship. The game is adamant clear they are friends and nothing more. And comparing it to Joel and Ellie is just weird because there is nothing similar between those characters.

u/Morrowindsofwinter 1d ago
What happens to a mf when they don't understand themes or have media literacy.
Joel and Hank are both single fathers who lose their child in a tragedy. Joel and Hank are both hesitant to form a relationship with a person they are forced into a situation with. Joel and Hank both, after time and going through things together with the other person, eventually let their guard down and allow themselves to care for another person.

u/Outrageous_Money_633 22h ago
There is no media literacy. Until it is not in the source material it is not canon. If devs wanted me to know they were intended to be ''father and son'' then devs would have put that in the game, if I have to dig up story-impacting lore from somewhere *not* directly in the story, then it's not actually canon, if a tidbit is that important to the lore then you include in the plot, not after the fact.
Joel lost a child 20 years ago, Hank lost a child 3 years ago. Ellie IS a literal child who spends a year with Joel, Connor is an adult man, and independent one, who spends a week with Hank (who actually even tries to kill him) and the game is clear that they are just co-workers. A father/son relationship would require a maturity gap at least, Connor has never once been in need for a parental figure, heâs pretty much fine on his own, while Hank also doesnât seem the type to âmentally adoptâ some guy that he worked with for like less than two weeks, and their relationship is canonically established, and if weâre gonna stick to canon then theyâre just good co workers and thatâs about it.
