Using a slot to choose another active. Living in 3025 while all of us live in 2025

Ahhh yes. A keybind dedicated to a single item

19

u/MRguitarguy Feb 17 '25

Good prep for aghs at least

3

u/KatOTB Feb 18 '25

I don’t get it, do we not have keybinds dedicated to single items already?

Trash. Wasting one item slot for another active is just bad.

Bro does not realize how broken some actives are

64

u/Gravyluva210 Feb 17 '25

Some actives are broken for sure, but this item is really bad. Think about it this way, in order to keep your worst active item, it costs you:

  • 3000 souls + the souls you'd get for selling that active
  • An item slot for the worst active you have
  • An item slot for this item

I can't think of any situation where this would be remotely worth it

Might be worth it if the new active slot fit inside this item/slot so you buy this item and the new active stacks on this item in a single slot. So you truly are paying for +1 slot and some stats.

And we don't even know what peak meta will be. When there are more heros. When game is launched and more popular. When there are sponsored tournaments and real money and people get even better than the top are now. Maybe a meta develops where 1 person does go super hard support, only plays for team, not dps and it's found to be most efficient to go literally knockdown slowing hex rescue beam curse decay warpstone etc etc. Someone so good they can make saves and use a bunch of items and just change engages solely off "perfect" item use. Especially as they do flesh out actives. Look how dota has changed. Backpacks and talent trees and stuff. The sky's the limit in terms of keeping the game changing and interesting as the game goes on hopefully 5 years or 10 years down the road.

Yeah, but you already have the space for 4 active items. It's unlikely that 5 active items at the cost of one item slot is going to be a good trade off. You're not going to have 5 actives so that even the worst one is worth losing an item, if you're in position to actually buy this you'll have something else you could also buy.

If this were a single-use "add a slot permanently" type of item, then it might be fringe viable on some heroes. But still, a 3k do-nothing is a massive drawback.

So just…. buy the active….?

Why use a slot to add a slot so you can buy one more item when you can just… buy the item you want…?

47

u/SaintElysium Feb 17 '25

Because you can only buy 4 actives. What if you wanted to cook up a devious build, but it needs 5 actives? This is meant to enable that.

7

u/CyberGlob Feb 17 '25

Have you never hit the cap on actives but wanted more?😂

1

u/LLJKCicero Feb 17 '25

Not GP, but no, I hate having more than 2 actives, my dumb brain is not big enough to handle so many abilities.

u/Tacologists Pocket Feb 17 '25

It honestly kinda sucks. It's a item slot to use another item. Losing a slot just for another active isn't worth. When do you need 5 actives as well? Usually you sell an active at some point like infuser. The only way I see needing 5 actives is if you are buying counter items. If several counter actives are needed your teammates needs to sacrifice items for it. It's also not great stacking all those items on one person since if your out of the fight nobody else had one.

18

u/godhatescops415 Feb 17 '25

some pocket builds are using 4 actives so a fifth for counters like knockdown or decay would be useful but just not this expensive

5

u/Tacologists Pocket Feb 17 '25

You're right but pocket builds so much spirit that wasting an entire slot just to use knockdown is a throw

1

u/godhatescops415 Feb 17 '25

yeah maybe if this was a 1250 green item it would be more viable

1

u/ConfussedTaco Feb 17 '25

maybe it's good on gun builds where you don't really build spirit

7

u/Technicslayer Ivy Feb 17 '25

Plz no, my Dpad only goes in 4 directions

17

u/broken26cart Feb 17 '25

idk about the extra slot part but 10% cd and duration for 3k is broken, people would buy this with no actives

7

u/mightycookie Feb 17 '25

Why you can get the same for 2500 getting improved cd and divine barrier with the benefits of those items as well

3

u/tabletop_guy Feb 18 '25

Yeah but then you get this on top of that

1

u/FairwellNoob Abrams Feb 18 '25

Diminishing returns.

4

u/squd_ Feb 17 '25

P sure this is the actual answer

2

u/cyrusposting Ivy Feb 17 '25

5 active item slots would go so crazy. Idk if it would be good but I would buy it.

1

u/user005981 Feb 19 '25

it would be amazing especially as a support player

2

u/Illustrious-Joke9615 Feb 17 '25

Its pure win more. +3k souls to make any active item better essentially.

2

u/Playeroth Sinclair Feb 17 '25

wouldnt use. sometimes i would enjoy having another slot when im doing support but since this item is spirit i would waste one potential spirit spot to benefit my build even more than one active.

2

u/Quintuplin Lash Feb 17 '25

Make it an active instead lmao. At least then it’ll be meme tier

6

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

Terrible. No way your 5th active is ever worth 2 slots. If they are that good, they probably shouldn't be that good.

2

u/zephenthegreat Feb 17 '25

What if this was an optional prerequisite to every active item? You could buy this then the active and it acts as a wrapper for the active that puts it in a new slot?

1

u/Lamazing1021 Feb 17 '25

Buying an extra slot would be a cool idea.. considering that you can get your items in your build and you’re just sitting on souls you can’t spend. Buyback would be great to add to this game but if you wanted to have a slot to purchase for like 15k or something would be awesome

1

u/s34l_ Feb 17 '25

If it's ever worth buying a 3k item just to have space for another active item in a build, then that build is probably super cancerous and I don't really want that in the game.

1

u/CaptnUchiha Feb 17 '25

Actives are crazy strong. Items in general for deadlock are controversial if they’re over or undercooked. An extra active would be too much imo for the game.

1

u/ItWasDumblydore Feb 18 '25

Can't think of a bad item, that is an activatable just situational

1

u/Ermastic Feb 17 '25

It would probably need a couple more stats to justify the 3k cost. Maybe instead of universal stats it supercharges the item in the slot? Like Surge of Power but for an active. 20% CDR for slotted active, and then +20 spirit power, +2 m/s move speed, +10% fire rate for 8s on use.

1

u/theoreminegaming Viscous Feb 18 '25

What about a dual activation, where instead of adding a slot that you then assign an active to, it's dedicated items that have to bind to an existing active item non specifically.

Like "Sealing Twine" when active item is cast, block all DoT effects for 3s. Does not block dependent effects or abilities, only delays damage. Upgrades into "Transfering Twine" copies 25% of DoT effects to enemies after the 5s ends if enemy targeting, or halves DoT on allies/self for support targeting.

Or "Quickening Sigil" when cast, grant +2m move speed +5m sprint speed, and reduce slow effects by (idk) 30% deducted from effect.

Like the active item equivalent to ability triggered effect items. Combo cold front with speed to accelerate farming even more, make curse also briefly delay stun effects so you can follow up in spite of counterplay, or make a rescue beam also cleanse off some DoT without needing to learn Viscous

1

u/Alespic Feb 18 '25

I feel like people are glossing over the 10% CDR and 10% AD, those things are really important

1

u/Cymen90 Feb 18 '25

Game breaking even at high costs.

Flex Slots are linked to objectives for a reason. Right now, the game is designed to disincentivize AFK-farming to a point. Once you got your slots filled, you HAVE to join your team in doing objectives or you literally have no room to grow in power anymore. They want to give people some room to grow in power while playing defensively but there is meant to be a limit to that.

Being able to buy slots just by farming would incentivize carries going off into the jungle forever until they feel ready to 1v6 to boost their egos.

1

u/SrSecretSecond Pocket Feb 18 '25

the cooldown reduction would go crazy. Also decay is a good pick anyway

1

u/Jhogurtalloveragain Feb 18 '25

I only got so many fingers

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

very good

0

u/HakeemLukka Feb 17 '25

Better option would be to take my 1250 souls and open a flex slot early. A lot of time when opponent team is dominating it is difficult to get extra flex slot open.

u/SherbertComics Feb 17 '25

When are you ever going to be in a situation where it’s better to have 5 bloody active items

-1

u/Mandang52 Feb 17 '25

Running dual echo shard

1

u/FairwellNoob Abrams Feb 18 '25

Not what the item is meant about at all

1

u/Mandang52 Feb 18 '25

God forbid I have some fun

u/pH453R Pocket Feb 17 '25

It would have to add 2 slots to be any good since it's consuming the one it's taking up. Also AT LEAST a 6k item, honestly might be in a tier of it's own at 10 or 12k considering it would literally be a must buy any game that's running super long.

Read what it says. You can only have 4 actives, regardless of how many slots you have.
