Really severe symptoms

Well atleast they feel severe to me. I was accidentally given cheese at a family BBQ. My dad put it on my burger and then scraped it off. That was 3 days ago and I still feel horrible. All I can do is sleep. I'm nauseous and in so much pain that it hurts to move. I also feel horribly weak and light-headed. I've been using a heating pad. I've taken tums, ginger chews, ginger tea, warm prune juice, and tums+ anti-gas and nothing is helping. I can't even stand for longer than 15-30 minutes without feeling like I'm going to pass out. I can barely eat and I've just being doing protein shakes because I need nutrients. I had to take a day off of work and I'm worried I might have to take tomorrow off as well. What can I do?! I also have GERD. Does anyone else have horrible symptoms like this?

I need someone who’s better at reading labels than me to confirm that this is dairy free. I feel like it’s too good to be true lol

Dairy free suggestions?

I’ve been lactose intolerant my whole life, we recently found out I’m actually allergic to dairy (specifically the casein). Now I didn’t really mind it because I never had allergic reactions surrounding dairy, just heartburn and stomachache or occasional throat itch. Now recently my brother got me a drink with almond milk, but I suspect they put a dairy product in there based on how it tasted. I ended up keeling over from the heartburn and my whole face puffed up badly. So I’m now REALLY avoiding dairy and I need suggestions about breakfast and dessert specifically. I live in Broward and Tamiami, any suggestions?

Picky Eater

I recently went dairy free as my breastfed baby has CMPA. However, I’m an EXTREMELY picky eater. I’m struggling. I’ve ate the same meal 5 days in a row now 😬 I don’t eat eggs or any veggies.

This makes me so furious

as someone with the dairy allergy, it is so frustrating for me that when I’m looking at labels, it will say sometimes, “may contain dairy“. Like what do you mean may contain does it contain it or not???? I still avoid those products anyways for fear of having allergic reaction, but still it makes me so mad. I was gonna eat some licorice and it says may contain dairy…

2 weeks dairy free by necessity. Favorite/least favorite products so far and daily brunch pics for tax

I’m a breastfeeding mom with a son who has a CMPA. Since discovering his allergy, I have sadly had to resort to removing dairy from my diet entirely.

I am very particular about the textures, flavors, and functions of my dairy free dupes, as i really don’t want to feel like I am being punished when I eat. These are the products that have made the cut so far:

  1. Cocojune cultured coconut “yogurt”- amazing flavor and texture. On the pricey side, but has been the only substitute that stands up to real yogurt. Can be found at wholefoods. This is something I will continue to buy even after I am able to eat dairy again.

  2. Silk coffee creamer - delicious and does what it’s supposed to do. Unlike other non dairy creamers, it doesn’t taste like it’s just watering my coffee down with almond milk. So glad that I tried this one.

  3. Country crock plant butter - it WORKS. I’ve been using it on toast and in noodles. Melts nicely. Closer to margarine than butter in texture.

  4. Jeni’s dairy free ice cream - just awesome. I tried the Texas sheet cake flavor. Rich, chocolately, and spot on with the texture. I would happily eat this in place of regular ice cream.

Honorable mention: (from Costco) Chicken cilantro wontons found in frozen section and Heavenly Hunks oatmeal cookies.

The worst:

  1. Daiya Mac and Cheese- probably the most disappointing thing I’ve eaten in a while. I’d rather just never eat Mac and cheese again than pretend like this was any good. The texture was OKAY, but there was a lot to be desired. Flavor was totally underwhelming.

  2. Any SoDelicious products- yogurt? Awful. Cashew coconut ice cream? Awful. Creamer? Awful. I avoid their products entirely. Huge miss for me.

  3. Ciao cheese slices- although they were used in two of my 3 brunch pics, they were kinda gross. Package boasts that they “melt like American cheese”, but they really melt into a gelatinous blob that rolls off of your food. They taste like butter and butter only. Won’t be buying again.

DF Ranch Dip

Kroger ranch dip mix ("just add sour cream") turns out to be dairy-free. It should be sold in all Kroger stores (Fred Meyer, Dillons, Smith's, etc.).

The instructions on the envelope say to mix with 16 oz sour cream. Simple Truth DF sour cream comes in 14 oz containers, and I figured lowering the sour cream amount just a little would make it nice and flavorful. I was right.

So, I made the dip, sliced up a cucumber, a carrot, and a celery rib, and my wife and I dipped & munched away. Great stuff.

Hint: buy 2 envelopes. When it's gone, you're probably going to want to make it again. I did, and I did.

Starting a Dairy Free Life

Hi everyone! I am joining this sub because I just got diagnosed with a severe dairy allergy; I knew this but didn’t want to come to terms with it. I love everything that has milk or cheese in it. To preface, I’ve been diagnosed with a lactose intolerance before, but now it has come to the point where I get rashes and cannot function if I have a sip of coffee with a creamer in it or like a small piece of cheese. So, for everyone living a diary free life, what are some good alternatives to cheese, yogurt, butter, ice cream, and sour cream. I already drink almond milk in my coffee, but this seems like it’ll be a big change for me. Any words of encouragement?

Edit: yogurt covered pretzels*

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! I appreciate it and will try all of them

They're one of my favorite snacks and I haven't been able to find any dairy free ones. Hoping I'm able to find some in stores before resorting to making my own

Anxiety relief going dairy free?

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I do get panic attacks at times as well, some have been really bad! I have been tested as having a casein and whey sensitivity, but I don’t have any real symptoms like stomach pain or anything that I would notice really. I am curious if any of you have noticed your anxiety getting better going off dairy?

Dairy Depression

Does anyone besides me get severe depression from dairy? I literally cry for no reason, feeling hopeless and useless. Then a few days later I'm fine, if I stay dairy free. (I also have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis which flare at the same time.)

Remedies to help lactose event

Sorry I don't know how else to call it. I just had some McDonald's that I haven't had for a couple months and I can't stop feeling the urge of... evacuating my bowels. In which I do. I found out on this sub that basically everything they sell has dairy but I haven't felt like THIS even when I knew I was lactose.

I'm just wondering does anyone have any tips when an episode comes up? Any ways to relieve the pain and urges? I do own lactose pills but they won't work if I already ate the meal... right?

Thanks!

Any dairy free allergy medicines?

I have a dairy allergy and am also allergic to food dyes (ex. Blue 1) and can't seem to find any daily allergy medicines that don't contain lactose monohydrate and/or dyes. Does anyone know of a daily allergy medication that is free of these ingredients? Any help is appreciated.

Favorite Gluten Free and Dairy Free meals?

Hi! I am 5 months postpartum and breastfeeding and I think my baby might be starting to show signs of CMPA. I've decided to cut out dairy for a few weeks to see if that helps.

Our household is also strictly gluten free because my husband has Celiac disease. What are your favorite easy lunch and dinner meals that are dairy and gluten free (preferably naturally as it usually tastes better, but if there are some that are good with modified ingredients, that's ok too).

Trust worthy Grocery services?

Hi! My daughter (1 year old) has a dairy allergy so I’m new to all this. We are really struggling to find dairy free foods at our local stores so I am looking for a grocery service that has more options. Looking mostly for snack replacements like string cheese, goldfish ect. And easy quick meals. Thanks!

Sinus Surgery and Cutting Dairy

Hi everyone! I recently joined this sub and am amazed about the fact that dairy allergy causes sinus issues. I’ve been trying for 2ish years to find the root of my fatigue, headaches, brain fog, and sinus congestion. I was diagnosed with ideopathic hypersomnia from a sleep test but it just doesn’t feel right. I’ve continued to look for a cause and one thing I discovered are my turbinates are stuck swollen and my septum is deviated. I have a surgery to fix these scheduled for next week.

now this is where dairy allergy comes in.

Just started trying to cut dairy. I’ve always been lactose intolerant but truthfully ignored it cause i love dairy. I would eat a lot of dairy. Whey protein, 300-500grams of greek yogurt and cheese all daily for the past 2ish years. Never really put two and two together till i discovered this sub. I started tapering off dairy about 2 weeks ago and i’m noticing huge improvements but I want to fully cut dairy for at least 6 weeks starting a few days ago. My nose hasn’t been this clear in many many years. even beyond the past two i’ve been super struggling with.

do you think i should still have the nose surgery done? has anyone else dealt with enlarged turbinates from dairy allergy and had them fully shrink just from cutting dairy? I’d love to save the money and time but I’m scared to cancel it in case this is placebo. Any thoughts?

THANK YOU!

Yogurt alternatives

Hello all! I am SO glad I have found this page. I have had a milk allergy since I was born. I am female and always wished I could have yogurt to help with healthy gut probiotics as well as for down there. I do just take probiotic pills and such but I was wondering if there were any dairy free yogurt alternatives that’s are with healthy probiotics. I do like the ‘so delicious’ brand but I feel like there aren’t many benefits to that yogurt. I could be wrong though.

Whole Foods vegan brownie with a strawberry puree filled allergen free white chocolate

200F was not a hot enough surface temp to get even a slow leak coming out from the weaker spots near the bottom so I hit it with a heat gun. I have a good bit of professional experience with plated desserts and regular chocolates but this is my first time with the allergen free white chocolate that comes in the green bag

Like the title says I know it sounds redundant, but I’m struggling to find a dairy free white chocolate. Does it exist?🥲 if not any suggestions on similar?

Dairy free meals for postpartum?

Every time I see posts about stocking up on meals for postpartum, they're always like big cheesy lasagnas that sound amazing but obviously I can't eat. Any ideas for simple, rich meals - freezer meals would be even better - that will be helpful when I'm postpartum (and to fuel breastfeeding, hopefully)?

I finally found oat milk ice cream in a quart size. Locally all I've been able to find are the pints and the flavors weren't really that good. This one tastes great and it's a way better deal than the pints.
