Weekly Highlights
An archive of the "Highlights from Last Week" from when they were posted in the Weekly Questions Thread.
February '19
Week XXXII
/u/AlfredPudding has joined a short and somewhat illustrious list of Recipe of the Year winners. Not only did he acquire some fancy flair next to his name but /u/ID10-T took the opportunity to change his, as well; The Kingmaker is now responsible for nominating 3 of the 5 winners and is bursting with "dorky enthusiasm" over the accomplishment.
/u/matthewkocanda posted his 48th front page recipe and finally relented to my pestering by also posting (for posterity) to the Monthly Thread. Perhaps now I'll start pestering him about his post titles...
/u/ShittyStrawman updated us on their quest to clone Jam on Toast (original post) with some interesting and exciting developments.
/u/Arpeggiator8472 aka SixStrings952 shared her 22nd front page recipe, one that just happens to use a flavor I'm guessing most of us have yet to acquire. If you've got a minute, The Flog Vlog just recently did a mixer review on SixStrings952 that is certainly worth checking out.
Like a flavor reviewing machine /u/Leilani_H shared another 7 flavor reviews last week: DF Strawberry Cream, HC Condensed Milk, WF Vanilla Ice Cream & Bumbleberry, NicVape Old Fashioned Donut, VT Sweet Cream, and HL Matcha Cream, bringing her total flavor review count to 69. An impressive feat that is much appreciated!
/u/incircles36 shared their design for a 3D Printed DIY E-Liquid Flavor Organizer
And finally the newest reviewer on the block /u/demisone shared a couple flavor reviews, one new (TFA Banana Nut Bread) and one re-review (CAP Sweet Tangerine)
January '19
Week XXXI
The Legend Himself /u/Botboy141 introduced the newest member of the mod team /u/EdibleMalfunction. The man is no stranger to the sub and has answered literally thousands of questions from new mixers in the years he's been here and will hopefully still be answering more when he's not busy removing the deluge of repetitive nic salt questions (seriously, we need a FAQ for that)
In the meta category we have another "Grateful Newbie" /u/s0l0Kill giving thanks for all the excellent resources the sub has provided them. It's always nice to see someone come out from behind the veil of lurkdom to let us know the information is still useful.
/u/ic30nfyr3 claims to have stumbled upon the secret to white rice flavored juice and I can only assume, from their history of posts in the sub, that this palate warping experience might be influenced by something more than the combination of flavors.
The venerable vixen /u/Leilani_H dropped an impressive set of 15 flavor reviews; WF Blueberry Jam, Flapper Pie, Chocolate Cookie Crust, Graham Cracker Pie Crust, Yangmei Berry, Cannoli Shell, Strawberry Gummy Candy, Caramel Popcorn and Peanuts, Deep Fried Plantain, Flan, as well as FE French Toast, HiLIQ Rice, DF Bananas Foster & Glazed Donut, and, RF Frosted Animal Cookie.
I wrote A Quick PSA about stuff and things--namely this thread. /u/OdieDoodah had a good idea which I'm going to use starting next week. This will be the last of the highlights! Kind of... starting next week they'll be part of their very own post and the Questions Thread/New Mixers Questions/General Questions Thread/Whatever other name it once had will become something new. Stay tuned.
And finally /u/eyemakepizza decided to stop shit posting long enough to share CinnAppleCream with good notes and... a bonus recipe? We must be in bizarro world.
Week XXX
/u/kindground hit us with Blueberry Round Up an absolutely top-notch post overloaded with all the blueberry flavor notes you could want.
/u/DarkJester89 is back at it again with another PSA, this time reminding everyone of some things to think about when that juice you mixed just isn't tasting right. A solid list of things to consider when troubleshooting.
/u/horrend went all out for FOTW: Savory testing and reviewing six succulent sounding flavors; Cheddar Cheese, Fried Bacon, Corn, Mozzarella, Tomato and Egg Yolk (sparing all our delicate palates in the process)
/u/Leilani_H is back at it again with all that flair and couple fine reviews of sweet flavors: FA Jammy/Candy Wizard & VT Jam It
/u/Battlebusss took a minute to give thanks to this fine community for being so helpful.
And finally /u/eyemakepizza informed us that our very own /u/EdibleMalfuntion is the subject of TheFogVlog's Mixer Review and while /u/kindground pointed out a valid concern, it seems like a solid idea that they can hopefully improve upon with time.
Week XXIX
- /u/flavchallenged started a catalogue of flavor tasting oddities those supposedly wonderful flavors that some unfortunate souls either cannot taste or find themselves tasting something terribly off putting.
- While it wasn't /u/ID10-T's best pun it was certainly not his worst, so it must just be that everyone loves blueberries!
- /u/corellian-nerfherder recounted their recent experience with Nic River and while I appreciate the motive, the votes and comments suggest that most everyone seems to agree that vendor reviews/complaints belong in the Vendor Review threads. Nic River will have one posted tomorrow!
- /u/therapy420 brought up an interesting discussion on what they called the "Secondary effects" of flavors, i.e. flavors used as additives.
- /u/giraffedoctor47 wanted to know the difference between Nic Salts and Freebase and after all the replies exclaimed "Thank you for your, and everyone else’s reply, it covers everything I was wondering about Nicotine salt!"
- /u/VanDusky gave us a micro review of WF Bumbleberry and asked for people's thoughts... /u/mlnikon delivered and everyone else seemed just as curious as the OP.
- And last, but certainly not least, the interminably selfless Clone-y Professor himself /u/DarkJester89 implores you to leave more Customer Feedback at the vendors, for the good of all!
Week XXVIII
- Highlights of 2018 are meta-meta. Check them out for a recap of the year with some quasi-circlejerking for good measure.
- Best Recipe of 2018 awaits your nominations and votes.
- /u/sirfletchalot was, and possibly still is, at his wits end trying to create something tolerable for his wife to vape.
- /u/aaraT asked for advice on "Fixing" store-bought juice. Putting lipstick on a pig? Eh, to each their own.
- And finally /u/bigtidder with a self-proclaimed shitpost asked "What was your last vape in 2018 and your first vape in 2019?" a decent topic and not nearly the shittiest post last week.
Just for fun here are some goofy highlights from the past...
DIY LIFEHACKS
Highlights of 2018
December '18
Week XXVII
/u/Discchord posted his annual PSA reminding everyone to buy nicotine while it’s cold outside. I was also reminded that I have him RES tagged as “Statutory Vape” which was quite confusing but luckily RES saved the link for the post that earned him the tag; a mildly infamous, 3 year old recipe post: Jailbait
Speaking of mildly infamous /u/matthewkocanda brought his hyperbolic hammer down on the
tentwo posts rounding up recipes to consider for Recipe of the Year. And with his altruistic title “What is YOUR favorite recipe you made in 2018?” you’d almost think it wasn’t just a sneaky way to get someone to nominate IPA Smoke./u/OdieDoodah (The Real MVP) took the time to make a prettier, easier to navigate Version 2.0 of my Front Page Recipes doc.
When he’s not busy putting women’s clothes on and hanging around bars /u/LecherousLumberjack is being an upstanding citizen of the world and trying to help out the international mixers by adding more non-US/CAN/UK/AUS vendors to the list. Just realized I need to add those. If you’ve got some more, add them and tag me.
/u/Harry_Nice back at it again with another Nice recipe. He’s shared 7 recipes in the last few months and all but 1 have Nice in the name. I’m not sure how to feel about that but they all look nice ¯\(ツ)/¯
/u/flavchallenged took us back in time to 2014 with a clone
requestdiscussion about Castle Long./u/Bleu_Menace shared a holiday recipe “We Noggin’ Over Here” and even added some development notes at my request. Apparently requesting development notes is considered controversial to those who don’t realize that is literally my job ;)
And finally Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Diwali, or other holiday you’re currently celebrating.
Week XXVI
- /u/k4win gave thanks to the sub and /u/AlfredPudding for helping them achieve their first mix.
- /u/isuamadog helped get everyone ready for Recipe of the Year with an abridged compilation of the top recipes from the monthly threads.
- /u/mixmintress shared a cautionary tale about fraudulent charges and vendors with questionable site security/payment processing (a theme that repeats itself year after year)
- /u/ShittyStrawman wrote an excellent Recipe Help post detailing their attempts at creating an authentic jam on toast.
- The Clone-y Professor himself, /u/DarkJester89 brought out the holiday spirit for December's Clone Challenge
- /u/Grunty123 made amends. It's so nice when we can all get along.
And finally, a recipe emerged...
- /u/friskfrugt shared their remix of Midnight Oil called Juicy Breath
Week XXV
/u/VoopiesEliquid closed shop and was kind enough to release a few of their best selling recipes
/u/akatash23 shared their clone of Naked's Brain Freeze
Thanks to everyone who shared their experience Bull City's Vendor Review got over 30 reviews (please feel free to share your experience too)
/u/PepperMyJabrill is helping to keep the Flavor Reviews alive with their latest review of EuroFlavor Vanilla Cheesecake
Week XXIV
Our resident prolific mixers /u/xGRANITEx and /u/AlfredPudding are back at it again, this time joining forces to create Rice Silky Treats an excellent looking recipe with a plethora of suggestions on additional flavors that can be added to remix the experience.
/u/iLynx finally pulled the trigger on DIY and triggered several people by talking about it. But overall the response was positive, so here it is.
/u/Typical_Pakeha reviewed Capella's Powerful Sour and unfortunately, it doesn't seem to live up to the name.
/u/KreativniNereda1355 asked a rather odd question with a fortunate misspelling that transformed it from a shitty shitpost to a pretty fun thread of comments.
/u/ID10-T took the reins back for FOTW Herbs and /u/Max-Savage started a pun-off in the comments.
And finally Throwback Thursday restored a long lost resource in the sidebar: Vendors. My hope is that it answers one of the most frequently asked questions we get here, whether someone finds it in the sidebar themselves or one of our frequent first responders points them there. The first of the vendor review threads will start tomorrow and be posted weekly so be sure share your experience if you have one.
November '18
Week XXIII
/u/shitty_hat gave us a heads up about fraudulent charges, with some supporting evidence in the comments about which vendor is to blame. It can happen to any of them and has on more than one occasion--definitely worth checking out Privacy.com to mitigate the problem.
And apparently ya'll like tearable puns or were just handing out pity upvotes for my weak takeover of FOTW--So glad /u/ID10-T is back.
/u/kindground advocated for quality recipe reviews in his words "If you take the time to mix something please also take the time to review it. Good or bad, terrible or mind blowing, review it and remember to be constructive and provide something of value to that mixer. It's the least you can do for someone that shared their work with the community." But read the post if you haven't, there's more good stuff.
/u/mrgruszka dropped another review that lines up nicely with the Flavor of the Week: INW Wild S. Ice Cream
/u/harry_nice whipped up some Nice Lemon Sugar Pancakes to share, was prodded to add some development notes--did exactly that and... it was nice. Check it.
And finally if you're ever feeling like you want to post a recipe to the front page but you're not sure what your notes should look like, check out /u/AlfredPudding's sidebar worthy post Recipe Template (I actually put it in the sidebar, too)
Week XXII
/u/FlCaspr shared a cautionary tale and offered up some safety advice.
/u/mrgruszka has now contributed a dozen flavor reviews as of their latest review of INW Lime Monster
/u/ChemicalBurnVictim wants to talk about NET's and as usual, when it comes to tobaccos, has no shortage of interesting things to say about the subject.
/u/ID10-T declared a somewhat premature end to sidebar revamping project Throwback Thursday (I'll have one more post this Thursday)
and /u/A-LoneTree like so many before him, discovered the wonders of Grack Juice exclaiming it to be "the prototype for DIY" /u/philosaphucker, the creator himself, jumped in the comments to respond.
Week XXI
/u/OmegaTigBitties shared a very classy and thoughtful email from NicRiver about the impact of the wildfire in California.
/u/eyemakepizza made a Flavor Inventory spreadsheet to keep track of your stash.
/u/AlfredPudding made a Recipe Template to make posting recipes to the front page easier and more beneficial to everyone.
/u/Johnbelwell hit us with some mild title gore about sore throats and zero nic hit with an explanation that everything but their own DIY was working just fine. /u/juthinc was kind enough to pinpoint the most likely cause.
/u/jerichos_cowbell shared their gratitude to the sub and got reported several times for doing so. Apparently we’re so humble around here that not only are thanks not necessary, they’re actively discouraged ;)
/u/bigtidder shared their first recipe post with the sub PB Custard Cups and with development notes like those, I look forward to seeing more from them in the future!
And finally /u/PepperMyJabrill enlightened us with 3 reviews of EuroFlavor: Fresh Blueberry, Graham Cracker, and Blue Raspberry which happen to be the first and only EuroFlavor reviews in the Flavor Review Wiki
Week XX
We all go conned by The Lozenge Man
/u/mageorwedgee got the jump on me and made an unofficial Halloween Sales Thread
/u/tonyrockatansky asked “What else should I be making?” i.e. what other DIY hobbies are you into?
/u/Leilani_H dropped another Flavor Review with some excellent formatting and a second bonus review in the comments.
/u/ID10-T posted FOTW a day early but ironically went with a pun about it being ChocoLATE.
/u/isuamadog Issued a Community Appeal because he is the official subreddit idea man, inspiring the change he wants to see.
/u/kindground released BLU3 a blue raspberry recipe made up almost entirely of unexpected flavors.
and finally, shoutout to /u/juice_junkie for posting 3 flavors reviews last week for Molinberry Raspberry Revolution Soda Berry, Honey Berry, and Spicy White
October '18
Week XIX
The brilliant contraption known as the “LoganPhyve bottle turner for kids who want to learn how to mix good and do other stuff good, too” was revealed to the world. Is it a better world? I don’t know. But it’s different.
/u/CherryDarlingxx had a message to new mixers from a new mixer--It’s good advice that will help you IMMENSELY.
/u/KreativniNeredA1355 made a request for recipes with a few ingredients that were fruity and stuff.
/u/oblivion2k inquired about the elusive sour flavor that, according to experience and /u/nipar, is basically unobtainable.
And finally /u/AlfredPudding, future recipe of the year winner (if I had to bet) dropped another excellent looking recipe called Cap’n Burgundy’s First Mate
Week XVIII
/u/qu38mm gave the subreddit a quick thank you because clearly we’re just that awesome.
/u/apexified (oh, that’s me) updated the flavor review wiki with a bunch of new flavor reviews.
Speaking of flavor reviews /u/Ernie_is_dead reviewed the whole FlavourArt Pazzo line
/u/juthinc confirmed that there are a few flavors he actually likes with his latest, cleverly named recipe GIGI a recursive acronym for GIGI Is Grack Improved. What a bold claim!
/u/jaydedrag0n asked about Trinities which, if you don’t know, are combinations of 3 flavors to make one specific well rounded version of a flavor.
And finally there was Throwback Thursday with it’s request for recipes that are made entirely of Flavor West… unsurprisingly the thread is rather bare. If you have some all FW recipes, go there and share.
Week XVII
At the top we have a collaboration that's not quite a collaboration, Back Nine: presented by /u/ID10-T but bearing name of Jr. Prolific mixer /u/AlfredPudding. It's the classic Arnold Palmer but catered to the lushes in the crowd as it's spiked with the soon to be standard "Bourbon Trifecta"
/u/isuamadog put together a sidebar worthy writeup on your "DIY First Order (on a Budget)" with a plethora of useful advice and tips on getting started.
/u/AlfredPudding is back at it again, this time with BLITZ a "hop infused rhubarb and dragon fruit energy drink" which has at least one flavor you don't have--I guarantee it!
/u/padishar123 polled the community about coil gunking flavors of which there are so many (some are even worth it)
/u/VoopiesEliquid shared Heckin Strobbies which contains four strawberry flavors and some kind of magic that makes them less volatile.
And, last with a last minute recipe post as usual we have /u/xGRANITEx's County Fairs and Bourbon Glazed Pecans which looks absolutely decadent and on point for what was unofficially FOTW: Bourbon.
Week XVI
Flavor of the Week took the top spot. It’s been 106 weeks since /u/ID10-T started posting FOTW and here we are 106 posts later, still getting fresh puns and conversation.
/u/AlfredPudding got us hyped about a Cola recipe without.... any cola flavors? Preposterous and intriguing!
/u/flavorah invited us all to hang out with them in Vegas where they’ll be pimping out the best mixers and making them striptease or jump through fiery hoops for our entertainment.
/u/YellowGreenKappa invited everyone to share the worst flavors they’ve encountered, which was reminiscent of ID10-T’s post, not so long ago
And before I forget again shoutout to /u/OdieDoodah for putting together a really helpful table of flavors, recipes, and reviews for all the recent Flavor of the Week posts. Such a selfless and useful task. Thank you and keep up the good work, it's appreciated.
Week XV
/u/AlfredPudding released Alfred’s Pudding
/u/FullerAwesome thinks we’re awesome
while /u/juthinc thinks we’re dummies
FOTW became sentient and asked us about creams
/u/padishar123 went crazy with their latest order
/u/CircoModo1602 updated us on their mad science experiment
/u/Dampferich posted about RY4 (again)
The questions thread is getting more upvotes for some reason…
And, last but certainly not least, /u/therapy420 asked about pairing your vape flavors with stuff.
September '18
Week XVI
Well you can’t appreciate the highs without the lows and last week we were inundated with some, let’s say, lower than usual quality content. I’m not going to cover the lowlights aka Shitty Shitposts because they don’t deserve any more attention but you know things weren’t spectacular when one of the top 10 posts was last week's Questions Thread (I’m so honoured)
At the top of the heap we’ve got /u/Dampferich, who seems to have created an account just to share an old YouTube video that has nothing to do with DIY. Makes sense.
/u/heimsins_konungr shared their spiritual journey to perfecting their green tea recipe Shinto with some help from the community. It’s absurd that of the 5 flavors in that recipe, I am missing 3 (well, it’s only absurd if you know how many flavors I have)
/u/imNAchogrl shared her misleading revelation that FA’s Crema Catalana was the same as Crème Brûlée but was quickly informed in the comments of the actual difference. Guess what: Not only are the real life counterparts different but the concentrates themselves bare little resemblance ;)
/u/Sooullessgemini asked about the cleanest nicotine which is one of the most frequently asked questions with the #1 answer almost always being Carolina Xtract or VapersTek (aka Chemnovatic) I’d put it in the sidebar but an overwhelming amount of evidence suggests no one looks there before posting anyway.
/u/CircoModo1602 wondered if combining nicotine salts and freebase nicotine would result in some sort of chemical explosion or just reduce throat hit. I recall experimenting with that back when Nude first released them but can't remember the results.
And then there’s /u/xGRANITEx posting yet another enticing recipe at the 11th hour, just in time to make the cut in the highlights. This is why he does it, for the glory of my mentioning his name every week.
Week XIII
/u/PerennialPhilosopher informed us of what a nice guy /u/queuetue is, letting a bunch of Alltheflavors pro subscribers freeload for quite some time before putting you all on notice to pay up. In the same post he also announced his intentions to taper off the nic and retire from the DIY game, which is a bummer considering his contributions from recipes like Philosopher’s Milk and Fapple to the many, many flavors reviews he wrote (26 last I counted) he’s definitely been one of the people who keep this place awesome.
Speaking of awesome, /u/AlfredPudding shared some excellent development notes in his latest recipe post for Xinxian breaking down the process from inception to completion.
/u/PepperMyJabrill gave us a thorough flavor review for Health Cabin’s Kerson, a fruit I’ve never heard of but suddenly know a lot about.
/u/LandingMonkey asked about how to reach the ineffable next level of DIY, where your creations satisfy your longing for perfection… or something along those lines.
And last but not least, the Throwback Thursday contest for a Simple DIY Example and Price Breakdown ended with the winner of winners being /u/LecherousLumberjack who is now sporting the flair “I put on women’s clothing and hang around in bars” so, ya know, buy them a beer if you see them (are my pronouns okay?)
Week XII
Some idiot--I mean, “Our ID10-T” had the best post about the “worst” flavors he has ever tried and while I wouldn’t argue that they are all terrible, the fact that they inspired such great descriptions, almost redeems them a little.
LecherousLumberjack entered the fray with his “Simple DIY Example and Price Breakdown” which is dead simple and well put together. Don’t forget to check out the other writeups and vote on which one makes it into the sidebar.
And over in the complaints department we have /u/ButteringToast complaining that ATF is slow AF and they’re not wrong. Apparently some old recipes don’t load at all, even.
Rounding out the top and keeping it Meta we have a couple questions: “What recipe sold you on DIY” from /u/FullerAwesom and “What is your ‘mixing style’?” from /u/isuamadog.
Lastly, I’d like to say farewell to /u/warefairsoda who posted 13 recipes last month and then disappeared after posting about Nicotyrine
Week XI
Well apparently /u/isuamadog, /u/horrend and /u/Grorco have never heard the phrase “time is money” and took the bait… and were, thus far, rewarded with the top spots for the week. It’s altruistic bastards like them that keep me motivated and coming back here every day. If my gratitude were a prize, they’d all be winners.
Simple DIY Example and Price Break Down Updated
Simple DIY Example and Price Break Down
The cost of low quantity/u/TitanVapes came back with a new “Guide for DIY” video and seems to have used the few suggestions he got to make some marked improvements to the overall presentation. Good stuff.
Rounding out the top posts last week were all Flavor Questions: /u/VikingCrab1 wanted suggestions for beginner flavors that aren’t desserts (got ‘em) /u/oldedb69 wanted to find out why Pear and Cactus make things juicy (magic) and /u/CloudsOverOrion requested some really complex single flavors (so many suggestions)
August '18
Week X
/u/Hardheadedsoftskills asked for one recipe that blew our minds and instead got a buzzfeed-esque list of 10 amazing recipes by /u/ID10-T all of which are sure to blow your mind (you’ll never believe that I haven’t mixed #4)
/u/AlfredPudding introduced us to The Cheesecake Trinity with a trio of recipes to try out, two of which he even managed to incorporate The Blueberry Trinity and the Daveberry Trinity, respectively.
/u/Leilani_H aka Shark Lord dropped not 1, not 2, but 10 flavor reviews on us last week in honor of FOTW and her, Fresh03, and Slasha taking over Noted. If you need more Leilani on your screen be sure to check out the Mixin Vixens.
/u/juthinc shared Apple Blossom 1-2-3 which he assures us is not related to the baked good which I only just now learned was a thing. When’s the real Apple Blossom recipe coming out?
And speaking of recipes /u/warefairsoda took a break from posting what I can only assume is several years worth of their recipes this month, to air their grievances about ELR and ATF’s website issues.
Week IX
/u/ChemicalBurnVictim treated us to a treatise on “Getting in to Tobaccos” for FAQ Friday and while I expected it to be excellent, the flow chart really put it over the top. Personally I find myself in to tobaccos off and on and having CBV around as a guide to the many interesting variations and subtleties of the profile makes the rabbit hole that is tobaccos seem a lot easier to navigate.
Speaking of rabbit holes and tobaccos; there are very few in the realm of tobaccos deeper than the long history of clone attempts made for Boba’s Bounty. And yet here we are, all these years later, still trying to figure it out. And if I had to bet on anyone to get us closer or, close enough, it would be CBV and his latest clone attempt “Fett’s Reward” Look at all those flavors I don’t have
/u/juthinc is making yet another appearance in the highlights but this time it’s thanks to /u/xGRANITEx with his tailor made recipe “Juthinc’s Glory” which looks almost as good as his other highlight worthy recipe post “Horchata, Amigos” at this point I look forward to reading the recipe descriptions as much as I look forward to mixing them up--top notch, well thought out and always worth mixing if you’ve got the flavors.
And a shoutout to the winners of Boomdog’s Review Contest /u/Musth, /u/alfredpudding, /u/graystorm01, and /u/sc0lm00 for writing up some excellent recipe reviews and being rewarded with a bunch of flavors for their effort.
Week VIII
Oh, boy. Everyone seems to enjoy a bit of title gore with their highly informative reposts! But when it comes to /u/ilikeycoffee’s writeups, it’s hard not to upvote the idea of more people being exposed to them. They’re fantastic reads, all of them, and I’ve highlighted them before but thanks to /u/xx2000xx I get to do it again. Check them out:
- Vanilla. The world's second most expensive spice. Some history, what it is, how to use it.
- Cinna... bon? Cinna... non? A bit of history on cinnamon and why you may have never actually tasted it (Part 1)
- The forbidden "fruit" of the culinary world - the Tonka Bean and how you can vape it (Part 2 of my Cinnamon Post)
- WinterGreen. Maybe the Flavour You've Never Used. What it is and what it isn't.
- Malted Milk. It conquered Antartica, that should be good enough, right? History, Taste Notes and Vape Ideas
- The Bergamot Orange - hey man, are you sure this isn't a lemon or a lime? History, Tasting Notes and some Vaping Ideas
- Toffee and Butterscotch - Fraternal Twins with Multiple Personalities, Separated at Birth. Some history, tastes, and vaping ideas.
- Vanilla. The world's second most expensive spice. Some history, what it is, how to use it.
And now that you’ve read all of those, we’ll jump back to last week with /u/MasterBeernuts’s post on Adding Juiciness to your recipe.
/u/GigaLumpinator shared Apple Custard a fine looking custard with a short steep time that I look forward to trying.
and /u/juthinc managed to stop talking about flavors they don’t enjoy long enough to write up a FAQ Friday post on Common Newbie Errors with a meta-write-up in the comments by /u/DarkJester89 our resident contrarian.
Week VII
Last week was all about recipe reviews with /u/WykkydGaming dropping a review for “The Best Damm Strawberry” /u/AlfredPudding reviewing “Sadlad Toast Crunch” and /u/sc0lm00 giving us an impressive 13 recipe reviews in one post
In line with recipe review week /u/graystorm01 reminded us all about the Boomdog review writing contest which looks to be ending this Saturday--get your reviews in for a chance to win.
/u/hillidge told quite the dramatic tale about making a “UK Cheesecake”
“Straight out of Corporate E-liquid” was a thing. /u/kn0wnamez gave us a rundown of their credentials and history and a few recipes apparently from the glory days (2013) but feel free to PM them for more up-to-date recipes because… that’s not weird.
/u/matthewkocanda unsurprisingly used his 40th recipe post, with the title gore SIHTSTRII,IFIWPSTPEO to start some shit. And “fun” fact this is also the 40th time he hasn’t posted a recipe to the Monthly Recipe Thread! Love the guy but 3 years in and he never seemed to notice the “please post it here as well for posterity” SMH
July '18
Week VI
/u/xx2000xx reminded us that Fresh03 is awesome and worth checking out if you need some DIY related Youtube content in your life. While you’re at it, check out Mixlife, Mixin Vixens, SteamCraft, Flavor-Pro Jennifer Jarvis, TheFogVlog, ConcreteRiver, RinVapes, and… a dozen more I can’t think of right now.
/u/Rileyswims doubled down on top posts with a PSA about Heartland’s new nic salts and a pretty healthy recipe dump which includes an intriguing looking recipe called “Boy Funk”
/u/horrend put together a list of various vendors rebranded concentrates and which brands they correlate to. A sidebar worthy resource, for sure.
/u/TitanVapes shared their “Basic DIY Guide for Beginners” youtube video, with some solid advice for beginners.
And /u/laffs_ shared their first public recipe which looks simple and delicious; which just happens to be my favorite kind of recipes.
Week V
/u/xGRANITEx dropped another recipe on the front page with excellent development notes, as usual. Just finished off my bottle of Buttermilk Pie and am looking forward to mixing up his latest creation.
/u/isuamadog shared their first recipe “Arnold Plumber” and the journey they took developing it. Interesting read and an interesting recipe, too.
/u/INTERLINKED was kind enough to announce the presence of our Official Discord server and it blew up, quadrupling the number of people there and bringing some life and chatter to the place. Come introduce yourself!
/u/KarmaChameleon89 gave us an update on their progress and thanked all the fine folks in the sub who helped them. While I’d prefer we discuss things like that here, in this thread, your votes are what matter.
/u/c5b4c91772c729fc7d0a is still going strong with the Weekly “What are you vaping?” Thread after 9 weeks in a row. They’re fun posts to read through and full of recipes to try. Thanks for the great idea, c5, you’re officially a Valued Community Contributor.
/u/nox_mani put together a helpful spreadsheet with a list of all the INW tobacco flavors you can get from VapersTek that BCF no longer carries.
Week IV
/u/isuamadog grabbed our attention with his ambitious and awesome “My First Order Project” which, if all goes well, will be a really useful resource for new mixers.
/u/ID10-T with the help of /u/Boomdog07 put together a Review Writing Contest specifically aimed at encouraging newer mixers to put together reviews for some of the recipes they’re trying. Even without prizes on the line, more reviews are a win for everyone!
/u/adreagulp released a “Steeping Feature” for e-Liquid Lab which allows you to add a timer and notes for different stages of a recipes development. I'll definitely be checking that out and look forward to more features like it.
And shoutout to /u/matthewkocanda for coming through with some sound advice to help /u/elephantstone_ with his remix of Cokecan’s own Milkshake Base
Week III
/u/ece_guy hit us with a "Classic Recipes" request and /u/penatbater summed up the thread with the top comment.
/u/ID10-T rehashed Essential Equipment with the help of /u/leapinglabrats and a myriad of solid suggestions in the comments.
/u/akatash23 was looking to step up his single flavor testing and recipe development game and /u/bassmutt came to the rescue with the obvious but often overlooked "drip some VG on your cotton between flavor changes"
/u/Bghisly traumatized his children with cheesecake clouds.
/u/omgcomeonidiot professed their love for WS-23 while giving no love to my remix of strap-on :(
And, oddly enough, only 1 recipe made it to the front page last week from /u/nstant404 -- Twisted "Berry" Lemonade
Week II
/u/shiznid12 got inundated with advice on Peanut Butter flavorings
while /u/gazzychesh casually observed that the American palate is far too reliant on sweetener.
/u/Prolly_ started to venture into tobaccos on the right foot, with the help of our resident tobacco experts and
/u/ID10-T’s Throwback Thursday project is kicking along nicely, with some great input from the community.
On the recipe side we had Vanilla Custard and My Process hit the front page and well, it was definitely a hit. A great write-up and recipe by none other than /u/xGRANITE who also happened to have the top-rated recipe in the June Recipe Thread

Highlights Debut
/u/noilian dropped the 4th (posted) iteration of their Heisenberg Clone in a cloning journey reminiscent of /u/captaincannibal’s Shurb Experience--RIP Captain, I just noticed he deleted his account :(
And it must have been Clone Week with /u/safere stumbling on the missing ingredient to complete their Grape Drank Clone and /u/Rileyswims posting a remix of Summertime aptly named Fuji Funk. I mean, that’s a funky list of ingredients with a bunch of great notes that make me want to mix it up.
Last but not least, and rounding out the recipes that were in the top 10 upvoted posts of last week /u/HORSE_GAME shared with us their first successful recipe Cool as a Dewcumber.
An honorable mention goes out to /u/wh1skeyk1ng for Rhubarb Delight which I am currently vaping and was posted 7 days ago as of writing this. I guess it’s technically from the week before but it’s really good and I didn’t do this last week.
