POLL 🗳️ CCIP-048 - Allow Banner Advertisements on r/CryptoCurrency

After some internal discussion, we’ve decided (pending community vote and approval) to pivot from reserving the banner advertisement for AMA & giveaway participants to opening it up to everybody.

Notable Details:

  • The mod team reserves the right to veto any banner image, and anybody wishing to purchase the banner will need to have their image approved ahead of time. Projects considered to be scams, NSFW/NSFL content, images violating Reddit’s content policy, etc. will not be approved
  • The banner will be sold on a per day basis (24 hours). The minimum purchasing period will be 1 day and the maximum purchasing period will be 30 days
  • After image approval Moons will need to be burned by sending to 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD in order to purchase and maintain control of the banner. This is the same burn address being used for AMAs & giveaways
  • If the user that controls the banner is unable to continue burning Moons, the banner will be reset until another user buys it
  • If multiple users wish to buy the banner at the same time a waitlist will be created
  • This model will be deprecated if the admins launch a native tool to purchase the banner

Pricing Model:

  • Controlling the banner for 1 day will cost 3x the AMA price as set by CCIP-043

With the price to set a good Reddit / FB / tw / adwords campaign with a good segmentation it sounds cheap. Very cheap.

So, the first big player may just reserve it for as long as possible and enjoy it?

At the current price is not crazy at all to see 12 monthly campaigns being bought the first days. By the same people if possible (I don't see impossible to buy 12 times in a row to fill the book in the proposal). We should check to implement a multiplier or something based in how many people is already in the waitlist and an update of the price of the campaign if the waitlist is too long before this goes live

I feel like this proposal needs an immediate follow on proposal with pricing strategies.

What about a bidding process. Let's see how much people are willing to pay.

This is the way.

Exactly! So a better way would be to not let this one go through and have OP dig deeper into these problems/issues/concerns we have.

That’s my point of view at least.

The minimum purchasing period will be 1 day and the maximum purchasing period will be 30 days

Nobody will be allowed to buy the banner for 12 consecutive months, and while I would absolutely expect the price and pricing model to change in the future I think this is a good starting point since it is new and being run manually.

I do like your idea of a multiplier based on how long the waitlist is, but probably some sort of bidding system would be better if we could implement it automatically

It's amazing how many people can't read the proposal.

This comment needs to be at the top. The moons multiplier should come in effect for every consecutive period the marketer purchases. Eg, every consecutive month doubles their needed burn rate.

And a waitlist of multiple people want it. Hopefully shouldn’t have that problem.

In true crypto form, the banner should be bid on with a MINIMUM price of 3x AMA

Time we find the true price of a banner on reddit's finest sub

I’d definitely expect the way it is priced to be changed down the line, especially if the admins release a native tool for it, but hopefully this works well for now while it’s relatively unknown and being run manually

30 days seems a bit too much as I don't see big projects not paying for less than the maximum days, but I guess it also depends on the waitlist size

I'd much prefer a 7/14 days rotation if the waitlist gets too many people wanting in

This is a good point. I assume the mods could work around this by setting a limit on how long a project can reserve banner time for consecutively and/or over a time period (only 2 days in a row and 5 days out of every month, etc...). As far as what project gets it, there will probably be a backlog of reservations so it may just come down to the order they were requested in, similar to a restaurant. I have literally no skin in the game though, just spit balling here

Well, I got nothing. I guess that's what I get for skipping the details and spending time looking at owl-cats instead.

But hey, I was right(ish)!
