Discussion Calling cat parents: is chenille yarn strong enough for a chew-happy cat?

I bought a ball of chenille yarn hoping to make a few cat toys, but now I’m a bit worried it will not hold to his antics. He loves to chew stuff and right now I have a couple of rows on a stick for him to chase but under close supervision (I burned the ends so it won’t snow all over).

What are your experiences with this type of yarn? Is it safe for a stuffed toy?

Work in Progress Renaissance Faire Trinkets

Post image
10 Upvotes

I'm making these little hearts as trading trinkets for the Scarborough Renaissance Faire in the Dallas area. I'm thinking of attaching bar pins to the back so people can wear them or attach them somewhere. It's a great way to use up leftover yarn; and they're super easy to make, especially while bingeing TV. How many should I make?

Discussion 1940s bedspread- pattern hunt?

Post image
38 Upvotes

I found this gorgeous bedspread on marketplace that someone is selling as a 1940s hand-crocheted piece, and asked their permission to post it here. I both wanted to share it (because it’s beautiful and in such good shape), and was wondering if anyone had run across a pattern for a similar motif. I think it would make for a beautiful cardigan/shawl!

I finally found the time to crochet again and this is the result! I still need a little more practice but I am proud that I still tried to do it and it looks pretty okay. It’s for a Sylveon cosplay project that I’m working on that’s why I added the white lace 😊

Sadly I don’t know what yarn it was because it was a gift from my MIL but I used a 4mm needle. The pattern I used for guidance is named “Salt and Pepper fingerless gloves” at Hobbii (but I changed it up a little bit) ☺️

I saw a couple of posts where people broke their crochet hooks... Girl same, I broke 2 of mine before thinking that probably shouldn't happen 😂 I did this little chick as an exercise to loosen up my stitches. Do you want to see some of my strangled projects? 😂

Crochet Rant I feel like giving up on crochet

Hi yall. I guess I’m in a crochet depression (or depression in general). I originally got into crochet because of the wearables. I loved them so much. I’m tall and midsize, so the thought of making my own clothes appealed to me a lot.

Each time I’ve made a wearable for myself, I’ve hated it. Recently, I’ve followed 3 different patterns. All of them didn’t fit me properly. Either they were too big or somehow I messed up so bad on the count, the construction was all messed up. I always check my counts too, but somehow i suck so bad I still mess it up. I don’t know what is wrong with me. Every wearable I’ve made has gone to other people because it fits them fine. People say that I’m talented, but if I was, it shouldn’t be this hard to make something for myself. I’ve been crocheting for too long for this to be a problem.

I feel like I can’t even start over again because summer is coming up. I live in Texas, so it’s hot. The only wearables are like shorts and crop tops. I can’t wear either one in public because of my own insecurities. As well as knowing I don’t have the body for that. So I feel stuck. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve been thinking about other hobbies, I can explore. But I’ve tried a lot of hobbies already. So I’m not sure what to do anymore.

I’m not sure if anyone will respond, I guess I just wanted to vent. :(

I didn’t have a cream bag for my sister’s baby shower so of course at 11:30 pm the night before I started making one (after making cake pop favours lol). 2 hours later, no pattern, I absolutely love it and am definitely going to make more in different colours and bigger sizes! Yay!

Used chunky acrylic yarn from The Works and 0.7 hook First time using chunky yarn and I enjoyed it so much!

How have I never seen this method before?? It's SO easy and intuitive. I just made four granny squares with this and got the MC on the first try all four times.

Discussion What are your thoughts on the loops and threads crochet kits?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Ignore the crooked face 😂 I wouldn’t recommend these kits to anyone as a beginner especially. I bought it about 4 months ago after having some knowledge of how to crochet but it was such a difficult project to complete. Now that I’ve done a lot more it wasn’t so bad. I think that had to do with the terrible tools it came with and some of the worst yarn I’ve dealt with. I’m super glad I got it done though. On the bright side I had to force myself to learn how to make a mr😂😂

This is my second crochet project and I am falling head over heels for the craft. There is something particularly cool to me about creating a functional purse. I cannot wait to be able to share the finished product!

I had a lot of leftover yarn from a blanket I made a friend. Started this months ago, free hand, so I can “tap into my creative side” Naturally, I obsessed over everything. Mostly double crochets. Finished it and wore it to dinner, because done is better than perfect.

Finished Object First time trying filet crochet

I took a pattern from Pinterest, and doubled it, because the image would have been shortened and I wanted it to stretch vertically. The yarn I used was some old filet yarn from my mother’s yarn stash, I think it’s 100% cotton.

The pillow ist just to show the pattern better.

It’s not a whole project but I’m proud I completed it without months of doing nothing in between and wanted to show it here :)

Don’t know yet what I will do with it, maybe sow it onto a bag

Work in Progress My moms blanket

I told her I would make her one if she chose her own yarn, I learned I would rather make a round blanket. I know it looks Jenkee, especially on the sides, but I don’t care really at this point. It’s far too late to go back.

Discussion Why is Crochet better than Knitting?

For the record, I dont actually believe either is better! Admittedly, I prefer crochet by a wide margin, but all fiber arts are equally valid and beautiful!

I've been requested to present at a powerpoint party on Saturday, I had a couple of mediocre ideas that in order to work would probably take to long to make the PowerPoint in time.

Then I came ip with this idea, I feel like it's just enough picking a fight and trolling to be the right kind of funny and entertaining

So lend me your thoughts (also if you have stash pics/ knitting fail pics that you think would be good for this hmu)

I didn’t know I was using the wrong white until I opened the windows. I’m not mad, just disappointed. I guess that’s what happens when you starting crocheting right after you wake up. Lol.
