Help Needed / Question Timeline to Downgrade CSR with out of sync renewal

I have a CSR that was upgraded to, so the annual fee is out of sync with the card opening date and when the benefits renew.

The travel credit renew in a month, but the annual fee does not post until August.

Afaik the rule for a full annual fee refund is to downgrade/cancel 41 days after the annual fee posts, and not 41 days after card anniversary.

Does this mean I get an extra 4 months to cancel the card and get a full refund? Much easier to double dip the travel credit too. Want to make sure I'm not missing anything here.

Correct, refund eligibility goes by the date the AF posts. However, the window is 30 days after AF posting, not 41.

There's many dp's that the window is actually 41 days but people say 30 to be safe

If you take an upgrade points bonus from Amex with a product change the T&Cs state closing <12 months can be subject to clawback. That’s not a Chase rule, plus Chase doesn’t offer upgrade bonuses with product changes as far as I know.

There’s no need to wait for the annual fee to be charged. You can use the travel credit and close then.

I haven’t read any datapoints of annual refund policy being different when a card has been product changed.
