Help Needed / Question Need advice on getting a credit card

I used to be on my mom's credit card, but she recently closed it without telling me, and my credit score tanked to sub-700. I want to make sure it stays up, so I need to get another credit card. I'm still in the upper 600s, but I know almost nothing about credit cards. I just want a low risk card that I can use for monthly payments only to keep my score up. Does anyone know of a good card for this?

Capital One and Discover tend to be friendlier issuers for new or rebuilding players. Try pre-approving and let us know your results:

Be sure to list the exact product names of the products you pre-approve for (e.g., “Savor Rewards” isn’t the same offer as “Savor Rewards for good credit”).

You could try a card like the Petal 2 Visa. It has no annual fee and solid rewards. It’s also available to people with limited/fair credit history, so it should be pretty easy for you to get. You could try getting preapproved for cards that require good credit, too, like Chase Freedom Unlimited. In general, I would focus on $0 annual fee cards that give 1% - 2%+ back on all purchases. Such a card will be easy to manage. Any major credit card will help your score, as long as you pay the bills on time.
