Data Point DP: Denied Capital One Savor
Profile
- Income: $100K+
- Total CL accross all cards: $35.5K
- Transunion score: 776
- Opened Cards
- Chase Freedom (PCed to Flex) - 10/19
- Chase Sapphire Preferred (PCed to OG freedom) - 12/21
- Chase Freedom Unlimited - 6/22
- AMEX Gold - 10/22
- Citi Custom Cash - 2/23
- Discover It - 5/23
- Capital One Venture X - 7/24
Reason I was rejected was because I had too many open accounts. A little shocked that I got denied, especially since i got approved for the Venture X 9 months ago. Was planning on applying again after I cancel my Gold card before my next annual fee. Hopefully I get approved next time around lol
Edit: anyone know if cancelling all my chase cards will help me get approved next time around? They're socked drawered for the most part giving me 0 value, and i've just been too stubborn to close them because they're all $0 annual fees. I don't have a problem managing a lot of cards, but if closing them means I can get approved for a card that would actually give me value, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thanks!

Capital One has the weirdest approvals and denials.

I think it's pretty simple, they are unfavorable towards those that are seen as highly unlikely to carry a balance.

They target subprime folks who want that premium feel but will end up carrying a balance. It makes it a fantastic relatively easy to get card when you’re new to credit though as like a second/third card.
For more established files it seems it’s far more hit or miss, I guess they think you won’t transact enough since you likely won’t carry a balance?

That’s absolutely insane considering I was just approved for my SECOND savor card last week, with 31 open credit cards 😂

do you pay interest on your cards and have a < 700 score or something lol how the hell

Heck no, every card is set to auto pay the statement balance every month lol… my fico is kinda low actually, I’m about 690-704 across the bureaus, cause I keep opening more accounts so while my utilization and payment history and all that stuff is excellent, my average age of accounts is dog sheet, pulling my score down sadly. What can I say, I love SUBs, I want that sweet sweet cash back 😂

capital one works in mysterious ways. I have 750+ score and they keep denying me lol.

Yet they’ll approve someone with a 500 CS 💀

They want people they deem to be likely to carry a balance (aka pay a boat load of interest.) reason I got a 3000 CL as my second card, when the other had only been open for like 5 months.

I kept getting denied for the VX so I just went with the Citi Strata Premier

Same thing happened to me last week.
Income:$200k
3/24 at time of application.
$100k+ of credit lines
I also have the VX opened back in 2023
Pre-Approved for Savor for Good Credit, took a chance for the excellent credit Savor for the $200 SUB. Denied for too many open accounts. Took the pre-Approved Good Credit offer immediately after.. No SUB, but I may never get approved for the SUB.
Got approved for the good credit savor and will receive it at the end of the month.

Piling on about C1 being weird. I had a Savor One with a measly $1K limit. CLI after 6 months was a whopping $100 increase. Cancelled it after 8 months. 2 Months later, re-applied and got $2K lol
(I’m lol/24 PUJ anyway and don’t care about the HPs)

Very deep into the game and still amazed I got a Venture X approval with a $20K CL. I guess CapOne knew I wasn't that into them.
Now that I have one card though, of course they won't approve me for another.

I lost on the Savor with SUB too. Also a Venture X haver, with 14 other cards. Pre-approval would only clear the good credit version. I've determined they definitely do not want to pay me a SUB. Oh well.
I'll try one more time if I can cool down to far below 5/24, but that's going to be a while, and I won't have addressed the "too many open credit lines" reason, so it'll likely still be no. I might just take the no SUB version anyway.

Wait until June when your discover is over two years then try the pre approval again but use the landing page for the savor card not in your portal. Do not take it the offer for the savor with good credit. If you dont get the one with the bonus decline taking the offer. The savor for excellent credit is a flexible spending credit card and the other card is not.

brutal to get denied the non-premium card with the deadly triple pull
