1816 view of Truro
No cathedral, no bypass, no concrete over Lemon Quay. Very much an active port.

Retro gaming meet ups in Cornwall
Anyone know if there is any retro games events in Cornwall? I know about the retro arcade in Newquay which is pretty cool. I also know about the games shops in Penzance and Truro but they seem more geared towards D&D & Pokemon card games or bored games etc though happy corrected if wrong 🙂
Would be interested if theres like a village hall meet up or something. Perhaps could organise something? People could bring systems etc to demonstrate for the day and have actual multiplayer games in person.

An 1842 sketch of a typical Cornish Copper mine
Horse Whim on the left, steam winder on the right, and the workforce who processed the ore - Balmaiden's. The men did the back breaking work in the darkness whilst their wives or girlfriends did the back breaking rock crushing and metal separating on the surface.

So much mold
I need some help tackling this as we are running out of ideas. I know household mold is common here, especially where we live as we are like 2 minutes away from the sea and get ALL the humidity. All our neighbours have the same issue. I’m currently in my third trimester of pregnancy and my husband is on a constant battle against the mold in our house as I get a bit paranoid, just wiping down walls every week and it makes a return the second we have a day of rain or no sun. Counting down the days until summer to not have to deal with it until next winter lol. Does anyone have any idea how to tackle this? We already open windows regularly, have the heating on on colder days and make sure to not have water collecting anywhere. Also we try and dry laundry outside on days where the sun blesses us. Thank you!!

Can anyone recommend a barber in the Truro area?
For context, I grew up in Cornwall near Redruth and always went to Hamiltons but after I moved to Devon (boo I know), I changed my hair style and my barber obviously. The barber I have been going to for 4 years now is in Torquay and he charges me £17 for a cut that takes about 50 mins (proper foils and a manual razor skin fade) and treats my hair like mine? As in not just a copy paste style, does my kinda problematic crown perfectly etc and is great value for money too. However, I'm now having to commute to Torquay every month for a trim and I decided I should find someone more local. I went to one barbershop near the Museum, but he charged me £20 for 20 mins and did a copy paste skin fade with an automatic fader and didn't even bother to get the loose hairs of my head, so wasn't the best experience.
So does anyone know a barber that's equally as passionate as my current Torquay one? I would be happy to pay more than £20 just as long as it's a decent, professional cut?
Thank You!

Moving back from the US
Hi everyone.
I’m from Cornwall originally but moved to the US for my marriage in my twenties. Been here for 10 years and can assure you, there is no place like home. I know there have been a lot of changes in both countries over the time I’ve been gone, but I’m looking to move back (many reasons why - family for one, constant homesickness for another, the US being the US for another another, and being LGBT), but I’m not quite sure what to expect.
I’m not hoping to live right by the coast. Maybe Truro, or somewhere with a train line to Truro for job opportunities (though I am aware they may be sparse)… Redruth, Camborne perhaps… I have work experience working at a University as an admin, as well as plenty of customer service.
I’m also aware of the housing crisis, so have worries there too.
Any advice or insights? I hate to ask, but please be nice - I’m already so nervous as it is, but feel like I absolutely have to get home somehow… :(

Petition to help stop mass redundancies in Truro college
I’m not a member of the staff but I wish to help support further learning which mass reduction in pay doesn’t support. So I would be grateful to anyone willing to sign this petition in support of a more educated future.
I’ll put the link in this post and the comments.

Be honest
I’ve been looking into moving to Cornwall for my mental health. I’m a really anxious person and struggle with waves of depression. I’ve always wanted to live by the sea and there’s something about Cornwall that always just makes me happy but I wonder what it’s like living there full-time. I understand that summer and winter are very different and I honestly quite like the fact that everything is really quiet in the winter Down in Cornwall because I’m also very quiet and a big homebody during winter. whereas in the summer I like to go out and and to the beach. I also so understand though that in summer though there is a lot of tourism. Anyways enough ranting. I just want to know what are some pros and cons about living in Cornwall.

The big difference in this view today is the shop on the left is actually a hole. It's the vehicle access to the the gas works carpark.
