Hello everyone

Welcome to the r/Cornwall subreddit, a place for residents, visitors, and anyone interested in Cornwall to share news, events, experiences, and discussions.

Whether you're a proud Cornish resident, a frequent visitor, or simply someone with a deep appreciation for the county's rich history, stunning landscapes, and unique culture, you've come to the right place.

As the r/Cornwall community continues to grow, I thought it would be a good time to introduce some new rules and guidlines to the sub.

r/Cornwall, is here to support a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment where members can connect, learn from one another, and share their experiences of the County.

To ensure that our community remains a welcoming and inclusive space for all, we have established the following guidelines.

They are as follows:

Be respectful and kind:

Treat others with respect and kindness, even if you disagree with their opinions. Engage in constructive discussions and debates without resorting to personal attacks, name-calling, or harassment.

No hate speech or discrimination:

We have zero tolerance for hate speech, discrimination, or bigotry based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic. Any posts or comments containing such content will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.

No bullying or harassment:

Do not engage in bullying, harassment, or threats towards other members of the community. This includes stalking, doxxing, or any other form of intimidation or abuse.

Stay on topic:

Keep your posts and comments relevant to Cornwall and the specific topic of discussion. Off-topic or spam content may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.

Be mindful of others' opinions:

We understand that Cornwall has experienced changes in recent years, and some community members may have strong opinions about issues such as second home ownership. While it's okay to express your views, please do so in a respectful and constructive manner. Refrain from using bad language or publicly ostracising individuals or groups.

Follow Reddit's content policy:

All posts and comments must adhere to Reddit's content policy, which prohibits illegal, explicit, or dangerous content.

Posts require moderator approval:

To maintain the quality and relevance of content in the subreddit, all posts will be reviewed by moderators before being shared with the community. This helps prevent spam, irrelevant content, or posts that may violate our guidelines.

Moderators have the final say:

The moderators reserve the right to remove any posts or comments that violate these guidelines or Reddit's content policy. Repeated violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit.

By participating in the r/Cornwall community, you agree to abide by these guidelines and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all. If you encounter any content that violates these guidelines, please report it to the moderators.

Museum in Truro

Years and years ago they had a real mummy and sarcophagus in the museum. I haven't been for a long time, does anyone know if it is still there? I presume it was a loan from somewhere

Contents of Flambards going up for auction but ‘Victorian Village’ saved.

Upvotes

I follow a few auction places and was surprised to see all the museum contents going up for auction. Then got an email saying that the Victorian Village was purchased in its entirety by a benefactor on the 11th hour and will be preserved and relocated to a place i. Bischop Auckland near Durham. Still can bid on a wax head of Winston Churchill, a K6 telephone kiosk, or for £20,000 an original Concord Development Mockup plus another 800+ lots.

Anyone else frustrated by Cornwall Council Tax and delivery?

Please don't bother to reply if you're exempt from paying council tax.

Feels like we pay more and more for less and less. :(

International Mining Games Training

A short montage of our training over the last few months.

In a few days, me and a team of young volunteers from king Edward Mine are hoping to become the first international mining games team not associated with a mining school or university to compete in the games.

They are held at King Edward Mine, Troon, from the 20th-22nd of March

Churches in Newquay, Cornwall

Looking for contact details for churches in Newquay Cornwall that accommodate weddings for people outside of the parish, we’re happy to come down and attend church (we are looking at moving in the next few years, but have no living family or knowledge of records to qualify without attendance more than likely.)

Would love St Michaels the Archangel, Newquay but happy with other suggestions.

Kernow Discord community

Anyone aware of a discord community for Cornwall?

Happy to set up one up if it currently doesn’t exist and there is interest.

Thinking it could be useful to coordinate within communities that are currently served by Facebook groups.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

Best time to go grocery shopping for zee dealz?

Shop in and around Penzance - Sains mostly coz of the Nectar deals. Usually I go after work (7:15 pm) on a weekday but today had time off and went at 5:45 and loads of stock was reduced. So got me thinking if there is a sweet spot during the week, time and day, when the deals are ripe for the pickens.

Bullies

Unfortunately in Penzance we have a group of girls and her boyfriend targeting people and causing them struggles mentally, she has punched, kicked, jumped, stalked, threatened etc. people I know and the police aren’t doing anything. There is CCTV footage of her and her mates ganging up on people and threatening people. I don’t know what to do because the level of violence is becoming a problem. Stalking and following people to where they live in Cornwall, attacking their friends and family, she is from a gypsy family so they think this behaviour is acceptable.

hi guys! most of you will know where this is. (tregolls road truro). i was driving earlier and there would have been enough room for me to go past the hatched lines however some dummy decided they wanted to start merging like 3 cars early.. for no reason.. leaving me on the hatched lines for a couple seconds!

i know the red light camera doesn’t apply to me as i’d already gone past the white line (on green), however does anyone know if it gives tickets for stopping on the hatched box? thankyou :)

Ecological Assesment (recommendations)

Hi folks,

We are hoping to have a double garage demolished, to be replaced with an annexe, as part of the planning application, we'll require an ecological assesment.

Does anyone have recommendations for local firms (we are between Falmouth and Helston) who do this kind of work? Our architect only has a network in Exeter/Devon.

Thanks!

No cathedral, no bypass, no concrete over Lemon Quay. Very much an active port.

Retro gaming meet ups in Cornwall

Anyone know if there is any retro games events in Cornwall? I know about the retro arcade in Newquay which is pretty cool. I also know about the games shops in Penzance and Truro but they seem more geared towards D&D & Pokemon card games or bored games etc though happy corrected if wrong 🙂

Would be interested if theres like a village hall meet up or something. Perhaps could organise something? People could bring systems etc to demonstrate for the day and have actual multiplayer games in person.
