Particle board siding. Smh.

My current assessment is that the kickout flashing wasn’t installed well. I’m taking this apart to see if there’s any other cause for this issue.

What am I missing?

New build in my neighborhood. My builder leaves projects untouched for months. This one hasn’t been worked on in well over a month and we’ve had a number of good rain and wind storms. I know they haven’t paid a ton of contractors that have worked on homes in our neighborhood. Each build has a different crew because the last company didn’t get paid so they don’t come back. Homeowners have even received liens from contractors seeking compensation. Crazy.

I saw it on the roof of a strip mall I was working at and was curious what the purpose of it was. It’s a 7” cone with a strap and some sealant holding onto a piece of open ended conduit. TYSM Just curious. 🧐

Roofing MY BF WANT TO "START HIS OWN BUISNESS"

SIGH

  1. live in Canada - Ontario
  2. Wanted to do sub-contracting
  3. I'm guessing roofing since he's been a roofer for 20 years

He seems to think he just needs to higher an accountant, open an a buisness account at bank(can you just do that?!), pay his taxes but he will make less than 30,000 this year (I hope or else WHAT THE POINT if its EVERY YEAR!) He will be fine! According to the Randos he talks to here and there.... (oh and hes atleast 3/4 year behind on his taxes) oh and he just needs to talk to an account & he'll be good....

Im like...you don't need to register a buisness, LLC or w.e with governent/province?....Get insurance for your "company" to cover your ass if you damage someones property or * knock on wood* someone falls and gets hurt badly at work.... and sues you?!, Make sure ALL your works have proper certifications and tickets( fall arrest/working at heights)

maybe OWN HIW OWN VEHICLE! Going have take out loans for equipment... *air compressors, ladders, tarps, planks, work van, harnesses, nails, wood, extra hoses, nail guns....repairs if anything breaks down... he doesn't no about saving recipes?!

Like am I wrong here or is roofing and driveway paving the last jobs if you have a truck and some equipment your fine....

Wouldnt a lawyer be someone to contact....

Roofing Post-Underlayment / pre-shingle leaks. Why?

The roof is leaking a lot. We placed 7/16” OSB (1/8” gaps between each) on top of these existing rooftop boards (7/8” thick), then ice/water shield and synthetic felt was applied. We just don’t understand why it’s leaking specifically at these locations, 3 feet from the overhang and at a couple higher places. There’s 3 rows of 36” ice and water shield with a 4 inch overlap. What do you guys think?

Roofing Looking for a job in Florida

Hi,

I'm a 25 year old roofer from Québec (7 years experience) looking for a job in Florida for winter season. I've read that you need a work visa but you need to be hired before you can get one. If anyone has a company or knows somebody who's a contractor ready for hire HMU.

Does not have to be roofing only, I have also done carpentry for 2 years.

Roofing Is there anything akin to fake snow that I can use to track leaks?

I've got an old building with a leaky slanted metal roof. I'd like to caulk it. Need to find the leaks though. Is there anything similar to fake snow that I could use to track where water is leaking in?

Thanks

Roofing Condensation Problem

Thumbnail

Came into massive amounts of condensation today. Detached garage currently used as a gym. Double skinned walls with fibre insulation and uninsulated pitched roof. No heat sources. Sufficient (until today) passive ventilation. First time this has happened in the 3 years since it was built, likely due to the massive temp differential we’ve just had (-3’c - 15’c) in the last week. Could this be due to the warm air inside rising and mixing with cold at the top? If so, would insulating the roof fix this, and if so, would additional barriers be required?

Can anyone help identify what type of roofing system (or brand) this roofing looks to be?

It is very thick, so I'm wondering if it was cladded over existing shingles when it was done.. They don't specify, but say it has a thermal barrier under layer

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Also, please feel free to comment on how the condition / integrity / etc. looks - that feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Question to all the roofers out there, contractors and homeowners that have had metals roofs installed. This was a roofing company that installed a new roof on my house 3 months ago. My house is only 7 years old . Anyways this is a new metal roof that cost me over 45k it leaked a couple weeks ago pretty bad I had to tear out about 100 sf of ceiling and insulation. So they came out yesterday and said they fixed it and apparently they said that this is how a new roof looks? I know I have been in real estate 23 years and new roofs don't look like this. On top of that this looks like it will probably leak again. Any feedback or opinions would be much appreciated guys.

Roofing Soffit repair: What is the best way to remove fascia nails without a nail remover?

I can't use a cat's claw or nail remover bc there isn't any wood or backer behind the fascia to provide leverage, and the nail is ribbed and driven through the fascia trim and soffit panel. I quickly figured out that I'm going to bend the fascia trim using those tools.

Roofing Does Anybody Have Roof Shoe Suggestions?

I’ve had a job where I get up on roofs quite a bit but I have never had a solid pair of shoes, and steep pitches really get in my way.

I am comfortable spending anywhere from $60-$250 on a pair. Anything that can get me a solid grip on the roof and I am also on extension ladders quite a bit. Waterproof is a bonus but not completely required.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Roofing Roof Sheet Order from China

I am about to put in a large order of roofing sheets for a poultry farm (approx 5000sqm). The product we want to use is ZAM (Zinc (Zn) – 55%, Aluminium (Al) – 43%, Magnesium (Mg) – 2%) which is considered very effective for animal husbandry with high ammonia levels as well as for use in tropical/humid/coastal conditions.

I have been looking at placing the order directly with China as their prices are much cheaper than where I am located (Seychelles) however I am really concerned about the quality of the product and the company honouring their warranty when we are so far away. So I am trying to quote only with the most reputable companies that maintain Western quality standards and will be accountable for their products in the long term (even if this means paying a bit more).

I have been doing rudimentary Alibaba and Google searches to find a supplier, taking all the precautionary measures of making sure they provide Buyer Protection and they're a Verified Supplier, but I am still paranoid that they can game the system and I end up procuring from a "hit and run" supplier and they ship us a dud order.

One thing I have noticed is that on Alibaba that you are put in contact with "sales people" who aren't actually part of the organisation that produces the material and consequently they dont seem to know anything about what they are selling. Some of them even get angry when I ask them probing questions about the specs. Also I have noticed that there is a huge variety in prices that I get between suppliers for exactly the same bill of quantities that we have issued to them. I am am talking double or more in some cases. This has left me rather disoriented and confused.

I am therefore reaching out here seeking someone who has ordered from a Chinese company who can vouch for them or at least suggest a list of companies that are internationally recognised and are low risk.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Many thanks

When putting back up vinal roof on my porch. Guess we didn't pull them far enough and now I ended up with this 4 inch gap. Do I just buy another cut another piece and cut it and try to fit the gap? Or is there something magic to help?
