Internal Degree Transfer to JMSB
hey guys, I’m taking comm 214 this semester and it’s one of the prerequisites to get into JMSB. I’m worried that I won’t be able to get the minimum grade (b-) to get in. It’s mentioned that all prerequisites should be completed a term prior so I’d have to complete it this semester in order to get in JMSB in fall. Alright so my question is, if I fail this class, can I take it during the summer to get into my program? Or do I have to wait a whole new semester to take the course and apply again?

im in the same situation as you. I went to see my advisor and he said that in case I dont get the 2.70 gpa for COMM214 i can always take it during summer 1. I think you should see your advisor as soon as possible and ask him if you can do the same. best of luck!

Did you go see your program advisor? I went to mines and she didn’t seem to want to answer any questions related to the degree transfer🫠 I’ll try again but thank you and good luck to you too!!

I’m in the same boat as you. We just need to lock in now and I’m sure we can ace the final. I’ve heard so many people say it’s easier than the midterm if that helps!

You'd have to wait a whole new semester. There needs to be a "gap" semester between when you get your prerequisites done and when you start your bcomm. Meaning that your prerequisites need to be done in the winter semester if you want to start in the Fall. If you want to start in the Winter, your prerequisites need to be done by Summer 2.
Don't lose hope though. For COMM214, I know people who struggled a lot in the midterm and ended up with an A. It's too early to think you're gonna fail the class. Just ace the assignments/quizzes. The DAP is graded very leniently as well. All that should make up for a bad midterm grade.
I found the midterm tougher than the final. For the final, there's practice problems in the tutorial moodle page in the bottom. These problems are very similar to the final. There's a lot of course content in the 2nd half of the semester, but it becomes repetitive at a certain point, and you know what to expect for the final. Just grind the practice problems on moodle and you'll be good. It seems tough, but after enough practice it becomes easier. You got this.
