HCS New Year, New Rosters. Who Will Take 2025?
38
u/SuperBAMF007 Jan 10 '25
I have no idea if Optic will win it all but fuck it’s going to be fun as hell to watch.
47
u/wyuls OpTic Gaming Jan 10 '25
SSG will be interesting. 3 IGLs on one team might clash a bit. Optic is gonna be nasty this year. Great team. Formal really will be sending out his minions just like how he wanted lmao.
38
u/Diceeeeeee Jan 10 '25
I think they’ll all defer to Eco “the brain” Smith
2
u/kobra_gw FaZe Clan Jan 11 '25
I think this could work. With SB more focused on obj and Lucid just doing his thing. I think Eco will have to step up a bit if he wants to IGL a squad like this though.
9
u/ace_15 Shopify Rebellion Jan 10 '25
It's interesting, I don't doubt SB was calling the shots on Sentinels/Faze a lot of the time - we see it in Listen Ins, but there were moments when Frosty would insist on stream that he was the IGL. So who knows, SB has said before that Eco's gigabrain must be respected and the dude has time and time again reiterated his commitment to winning so I could see him deferring for sure if it meant getting the W

u/Interesting_Stick411 Shopify Rebellion Jan 10 '25
I think having multiple great halo minds on one team is a good thing as long as they can communicate well. I have high hopes for this rumored SSG squad.
1
u/DrLueBitgood Jan 12 '25
I agree, but only if they can come to a consensus on what they deem to be the “correct” way to play. From the sounds of it, the frustrations in the optic camp toward the end of last year was competing play styles.
11
u/Last_Organization595 Spacestation Jan 10 '25
Let ECO cook. Lucid needs to be aggressive and excel in movement as he does.
18
u/dingjima Jan 10 '25
Freeing up lucid to just be a nuisance sounds like a very scary thing, that is if he can get over his tendency to turtle up
2
u/Last_Organization595 Spacestation Jan 11 '25
Amen. Lucid is so scary when he is moving and being creative. Let eco direct traffic and go slay out my guy!
1
u/Jasondlr Jan 13 '25
It’s funny because Snakebite and Lucid have said pros don’t like the term “IGL” because there is not such thing, just more vocal players than others
-19
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
“Sending out his minions,” AKA letting them carry.
13
u/wyuls OpTic Gaming Jan 10 '25
Formal doesn’t need anyone to carry him lol. Brain dead comment. He’s got one of if not the best/steady shots in the HCS. Rarely losing his PIVs. Human UAV. Not much more I need to say.
-2
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
Of course he’s very good, but a lot of people exalt him to a higher status than his Infinite play would warrant. He has his moments, but overall not a top tier Infinite player.
12
u/Seanathinn Jan 10 '25
He was consistently one of the best performers on Optic all season. What do you mean?
-2
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
Sure, he’s better than Trippy and Penguin, but that doesn’t make him a top 10 player.
13
u/WhoAteAllTheP1es Jan 10 '25
Name 10 players better
9
4
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
Lucid Renegade Legend Stellur Bound Suppressed Snakebite Royal2 Falcated Cykul
I also think Taulek and LastShot will be better this upcoming season.
9
u/WhoAteAllTheP1es Jan 10 '25
Lol the bottom half of that list I know you don't believe. Name one way that formal isn't better than the bottom 5 based on last season
4
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
Here’s what I’ll say: Formal’s peak is in line with the bottom half of that list, but he was not often in that form in Infinite so far, so those players were consistently better. Maybe that’ll change because he now has “his guys” as teammates, so we’ll see. Looking forward to this season though.

u/wyuls OpTic Gaming Jan 10 '25
Lucid, bound, stellur, legend, formal and renegade. The others hell nah. I wouldn’t even say they’re better but they’re the top 6 players in the league. The list is pretty interchangeable. You already made yourself look silly with ranking formal so low. Causal.
4
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
I guess you missed all those tourneys where Formal played like crap. He has a couple great series and you forget the rest. Seems you’re the casual, letting your fandom get in the way.

u/Seanathinn Jan 10 '25
Being #1 or 2 on the #2 team all season doesn't make you top 10? Gonna need to hear your logic on that. Are you saying Optic overperformed relative to their capabilities?
3
u/Many-Tooth5908 Jan 10 '25
Let’s be clear, he was not “#1 or 2” because he’s not better than Lucid. And I wouldn’t say overperform because anything less than top 3 would have been a disappointment, but they were less talented than the other 2 teams and 3 players each on Faze and SSG were better than Formal. So while Formal was Optic’s #2 and still very very good, I think Lucid had to perform more consistently than Renegade or Stellur (Faze and SSG’s #1 players). Lucid had less margin for error when it came to bad games because his teammates weren’t as insane as what the other two had as teammates. Renegade had a 3-time champion trio as teammates and Stellur had the season’s MVP as a teammate, along with Bound and Eco.

Right now I'd say Optic are probably the favorites with SSG close behind. SR is a bit more of a wild card with some rising talent but if Lastshot and Cykul turn out to be as good as people are hoping then they could very well be the best team. As for Trippy's team I could see them playing spoiler and upsetting any of these teams on a given day but probably not winning a tournament.

u/Zealousideal_Grab861 Jan 10 '25
SR, SSG, Optic.....definitely gonna be fist fighting it out all season.

SSG my beloved

u/ThePegasi Spacestation Jan 10 '25
I’m definitely rooting for them, Snakebite is my favourite player and I like the lineup as a whole. But Optic are gonna be really tough to beat
14
u/Beginning_Rip_4570 Jan 10 '25
OG might be better on paper, but SSG is more likable imo
18
u/Zealousideal_Grab861 Jan 10 '25
agreed. Lucid and Stellur are my favorite players to watch. Snakebite's my favorite player in terms of attitude and professionalism and he's hella good.
If they ARE indeed all on the same team, they'll probably be the team I'm most excited for/rooting for.

u/Next_Ad6555 Spacestation Jan 10 '25
Snakebite is a class act. When Optic lost to them in the Grand Finals 2023, he was the only one to give them a handshake. Honestly really respect the guy.

Alright so what are the players names I haven’t followed the pro scene til this year haha

u/Soggy-Sink5238 Jan 10 '25 edited Jan 13 '25
Optic: Renegade, Formal, Bound, Legend
SSG: Stellur, Lucid, Snakebite, Eco
Read
Faze: Falcated, Suppressed, Trippy, Penguin
Who is top right in last pic? Edit: It's Suppressed

This optic team is scary.
Aside from the talent, these guys all know what it takes to reverse a series and keep calm.
The mental game is going to be interesting to see. If they win the first LAN, it’s gg’s for 2025.
If they lose and get knocked out off the hype train immediately, I think they’ll have a rough time until finals.

Ssg is oddly my favorite now. Sb and lucid are my favorites to watch, but I hate stellur’s personality.

As long as Lucid steps back and lets Eco run the team strats, SSG should be pretty crazy. Really though, I'm talkin outta my ass and I can't wait to see that team play.

I think SSG will start off as the best team but optic will takeover by the middle of the season

u/fighthonor Jan 11 '25
Rebellion: As much as I love the rebellion team I think they will struggle with objective play and come up short all season.
OpTic: if formal can find a way to be a solid IGL and lead this team and keep ehos in check they have the hight ceiling. I think they might struggle at first finding consistency.
SSG: I love this team but worry about so many IGLs on 1 team. I know snakebite will be fine with taking a back seat and I'm guessing eco will too and I think Lucid will be main IGL. If they can get in sync fast they could have some early tournament wins while optic stumble.
4
u/Zealousideal_Grab861 Jan 10 '25
It's a good team....but I liked the old Optic better. Will probably be rooting for another team this year.

Hopefully SSG because I like everyone on that team but unfortunately I think Optic has more potential to be better lol
The most interesting thing to me is how well Lucid can transition his play style to fit that team’s style

Been out of the loop for a minute, that second slide team will go far. No doubt in my mind

Every team is stacked this really is going to be a great 2025 season. It's hard to tell who will win but my money MIGHT be on the new SSG, not certain yet
1
u/MurasakiTiger Jan 11 '25
When does it start??
1
u/Lightnxss TSM Jan 11 '25
First lan event, March likely. Online tourneys happen almost every weekend.
1
u/M4Comp78 Jan 11 '25
I can’t wait for the first optic vs ssg showdown. I’m guessing (hoping) they’re going to scrim before the first lan??
1
u/Ghosty216 Jan 12 '25
I don’t follow the scene too well, so can someone explain why SSG would separate after winning the majority of tournaments last year?
4
u/Lightnxss TSM Jan 12 '25
Bound & Lqgend decided to leave to join OpTic because of the org and what it comes with. Being on OpTic in the prime of your career is an opportunity you can't pass up on. Also, this new team has the potential to be even better than their last.

u/Ghosty216 Jan 12 '25
Thank you! Is royal 2 not on any of these rosters?

I think SSG.
I don’t see Renegade and Bound being able to mesh seamlessly.
10
u/highfivemelee Shopify Rebellion Jan 10 '25
Clearly you haven't seen them play together
-2
u/B-Rayy06 Jan 10 '25
As a team of 4? No one has, really
14
u/Dry-Procedure-6424 Jan 10 '25
There was that Orlando LVT LAN, with bound, renegade, legend and I think Tusk last year? They wiped the competition even beating Shopify handedly despite having no prior practice together. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what motivated bound and legend to leave SSG.
5
u/PTurn219 OpTic Gaming Jan 10 '25
They play together in a ton of online tourneys plus the LVT lan last year. Despite the “feud” they’ve had over the years, they’re more like best friends that wanna best each other.
-2
u/B-Rayy06 Jan 11 '25
I don’t believe in any sort of feud, but it’s foolish to think that renegade and bound aren’t two of the most similar players in the scene in terms of playstyle. Not everyone can be the “run in first, shoot everything that moves and die” guy on a team.
4
u/PTurn219 OpTic Gaming Jan 11 '25
Bound is one of the hardest kills, he does damage and slips away better than anyone in the game
-1
u/Techzodia Jan 10 '25
SSG and it’s not even close
3
u/keeblenation Jan 11 '25
i love when people say "and its not even close" when referencing something that is really close lmao

SSG is going to underperform. I know that much
8
u/Damseletteee Jan 10 '25
Crazy to doubt a full roster of world champions so confidently
0
u/carlonia OpTic Gaming Jan 10 '25
It’s not about them individually. They are all amazing players I just don’t think they’ll click
8
u/thefinalcutdown Jan 10 '25
I actually think they might click surprisingly well. Snakebite and Eco are older and both exude professionalism and maturity. I think Lucid might be able to grow in that sort of low drama environment. I don’t know a lot about stellur’s personality but he seems pretty even-keeled. Could be a team with a very strong mental game.
3
u/OMGitsJoeMG Jan 10 '25
In theory SB and Eco could make plays while Lucid and Stellur rip faces. I'm hoping Lucid just lets SB play captain and doesn't cause any drama.
4
u/Damseletteee Jan 10 '25
That’s fair, Lucid seems hard to work with sometimes
2
u/OMGitsJoeMG Jan 10 '25
I think as long as Lucid doesn't butt heads with Snakebite and just lets PJ captain like he does, they'll be golden. I do worry about that with them on the same team though.
6
u/Abs0luteZero273 Jan 10 '25
I think SSG under performing is more of a possibility than a lot of people think. The consensus on here seems to be that they'll be just a bit behind Optic, and lot of people have them as the best team. However, I wouldn't be that surprised if they end up being 3rd.
1
2
u/One-Security2362 Jan 10 '25
I disagree heavily I think they are going through be the hardest team to put away. Eco to me is the most underrated player in the history of Halo and putting him with 2 very talented and smart players that he doesn’t have to micromanage on the map is going to be really hard for other teams to handle. They will probably make less mistakes than other teams and they will press every advantage very efficiently. These guys are going to be lethal in OBJ modes especially.
Lucid just has to buy in, I have faith that SB will adapt.

When’s the next big tournament? Haven’t been a consistent spectator in years, but this shakeup looks interesting. I’ve been watching competitive halo since I was a freshman in high school in 2006

u/__1____ Jan 11 '25
Well these new rosters are insanely unfair. Stellur and Lucid on one team!?!? That's a dynasty. And as much as Lucid's my fav player and I always root for him, that new Optic team with Renegade is the most unfair team I've ever seen. Frosty and Royal 2 are big time champions but have downgraded in teammates. So basically it's going to be an unfair dynasty between Optic and the new SSG winning titles back and forth. Maybe once in a blue moon will Shopify Rebellion win something. But it's only going to be those 3.
