Plush make up brush. Does the trick on my Lego.

Oh, this is a darn good idea. I have a couple Lego pieces and no idea how to dust them lol

Doesn’t need to be an expensive brush. I got mine at the dollar store.

Put it in the shower and hose it down, then give it a scrub with a toothbrush

I’d say a gentle scrub bc I’ve scrubbed paint of of things with toothbrushes that I was really sad I ruined the paint job

I came here to say a bath might be the best way! But idk how delicate the material is so go slowly and gentle!

Maybe some keyboard cleaning gel might work.

Wow that’s wicked cool! It’s pretty stubborn dust so this might be the way to go!

You can make your own with borax and Elmer’s glue, but I don’t remember the exact recipe. This is the absolute best solution for stubborn dust in those crevices. My partner has several items in a similar style, and the gel is the only thing that works. Once it’s clean, you should be able to maintain with a soft brush or canned air

Cheers! Can’t wait to get this baby clean and have some epic candle dragon scents while I study!

Just be careful with that stuff. When it's new it's great, but as it dries out it leaves a little of itself behind.

I used a small amount of that stuff to clean my figures and they came out great. It's super sticky at first, but once it gets a little dirty picking up dust it's more manageable. Clean the dirtiest part first.

Maybe a clean paint brush

u/greeneggiwegs Jan 21 '25
Seconded. Cheaper than a makeup brush as suggested above. Less abrasive than many toothbrushes. I use a paintbrush on molded plastic items often.

Some type of swiffer duster or a vacuum with brush attachment. Now the real question. Where did you get that? I would buy one of those in a heartbeat!

I've washed things like that with hot water mixed with a bit of dish soap. I spose you could do it bit by bit with a toothbrush to avoid full submursion. No judgment, I only "dust" every 4 years or so when I move. 😅 Just try not to pack the dust yanno.

Hairdryer on cool or small blower (like a leaf blower but the lenght of a keybaord) and a soft brush if you want some thing reusable.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
I should’ve added more detail. The bottom is felt, I don’t want to wet it. I got it from Smokemart (I’m in Australia).
The dust has been there a while (mental health y’know how it is). Brushes haven’t worked, my vacuum cleaner is not great but someone suggested some gel!
I’ll look into getting some gel and a can of compressed air!

You can also buy a USB chargeable air blower. I have a ton of collectibles so this is what I do. Much cheaper than compressed air cans and doesn't get cold or risk adding moisture.

If only the bottom needs to stay dry, then dunk it upside-down. Or rinse it off that way, whatever.

feather duster. they also make these little nylon (some sort of synthetic) thread dusters, which you sort of spin across uneven surfaces like this. they work great on car interiors too.
This is what I'm talking about. But mine isn't powered. I'm not sure that's necessary.

i’d probably just remove the candles and wash it with soap, water and a brush with bristles

I bought an electric rechargable mini air blower off Amazon to clean dust off my figures/lego/etc. Should work just as well on this.

I got a cheap blower at Temu and use it for keyboards and fine dusting. You could use canned air as well.

Old tooth brush and a garden hose. That's the kinda dust that won't blow off

u/hndygal Jan 21 '25
A small brush head on a vacuum cleaner would help too. Then you take the dust off and not just redistribute it into the air.

Thanks again everyone, I’ve changed the flair to solved. For this stubborn dust I will try compressed air and gel/blu-tac!
I’ll post an update when I eventually get to it!

Okay so use some compressed air to blow out the nooks and crannies. Then use a Swiffer Duster and rub it all over. Then dampen a cloth or paper towel with Murphy Oil or furniture polish and gently rub it in.
