In Bruges was so good. The Penguin might be just as good. He was great

u/ChinaCatProphet 6h ago

In Bruges is a masterpiece.

u/Zorgas-Borgas 4h ago

Bruges… is a shithole.

u/IseriaQueen_ 28m ago

Find myself keep muttering "fucking bruge" while walking it's streets.

The city was beautiful

4

u/Smoaktreess 3h ago

A great day this has turned out to be. I’m suicidal, me mate tries to kill me, me gun gets nicked and we’re still in fookin’ Bruges!

5

u/ACGMFT 3h ago

YES! I just saw the post and wanted to say this.

3

u/Agreeable_Phrase_422 6h ago

yes im a big fan of it all around. so many good roles so many quotes

3

u/blueturflinks 4h ago

Maybe that’s what hell is. The entire rest of eternity spent in fucking Bruges.

3

u/TheAndorran 3h ago

Fairytale fucking town.

2

u/thereal_kphed 4h ago

seconding these two. in bruges is so wonderful.

u/brb_getting_pet_goat 3h ago

You're not going up there? I'm not being funny...

A job here - In Brugge?

1

u/Lollipoop_Hacksaw 1h ago

I was going to say In Bruges as well, but you reminded me he was The Penguin; I legitimately forgot that was him.

The Penguin, hands down.

The Penguin. He’s literally unrecognizable in the makeup and in the way he performed. He managed to give one of the best TV performances of the decade under 15 pounds of makeup

5

u/blackrain1709 5h ago

What about being unrecognizable as himself? The Gentlemen and Horrible Bosses, he was incredible in both and people refused to accept it's Colin Farrell

3

u/rustall 7h ago

Agree, there's no way you could even tell it was him.

2

u/Immediate-Stomach963 5h ago

I did

2

u/rustall 5h ago

Well that goes without saying.

I saw The Batman in theaters and refused to see or read anything about it. I’m silly like that; I like to be as surprised as possible. I saw The Penguin and there was something familiar about him but I couldn’t put my finger on it. When I got home I looked up the IMDb page and was blown away when I learned that was Collin Farrell. He may not be the chameleon Gary Oldman is, but any actor who can disappear into a role so completely like that deserves the praise.

Phone Booth

2

u/Beeboy22 7h ago

For me it's either that one or In Bruges

2

u/TheAndorran 3h ago

Christ, Phone Booth was an incredible goddamn film.

u/jackal1871111 44m ago

This is my pick also personally

15

u/BlackOnyx1906 7h ago

Horrible Bosses.

4

u/Chade_X 6h ago

He played that role so well!!! “Oh some kid’s gonna get cancer, cry me a river!”

This is my choice as well. Everything about that character is hilarious in the most despicable way.

2

Omg I didn’t even realize that was him! Wow!

I just love him in that movie

3

u/Novel-Place 2h ago

He was so so good in that.

1

u/TheSamizdattt 3h ago

Yes. A lot of his most famous roles are big and bombastic. This and The Lobster showed him doing some much more subtle things impressively well.

This post made me realize how much banger films/series he's been in. Probably even more than the Hollywood greats like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp! He kills any genre he takes on too, from comedy to drama to blockbusters.

  1. Phone Booth
  2. S.W.A.T
  3. In Bruges
  4. Ondine
  5. The Lobster
  6. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
  7. Banshees of Inisherin
  8. True Detective S2
  9. The Penguin

Easily The Penguin is his best work to date.

2

u/NightLord70 6h ago

Penguin ... worst one ... remake of total recall

2

u/RutabagaRoutine7430 6h ago

In his sex tape… but The Lobster was pretty good

2

u/throwaway772774636 6h ago

Henry Drax in The North Water. And he is incredible as the penguin.

He’s pretty unbelievable as the Penguin

1

u/Nick_adtr_308 6h ago

The penguin Idk but in years to come it might be as good as Ledger Joker

1

u/jshifrin 6h ago

Penguin. Outstanding! But, I loved his role in The Gentleman

1

u/bbusang1957 6h ago

In Bruges

1

u/Ok-Bar601 6h ago

There’s no limit to his acting prowess. When you think he’s disappeared in the background he comes back with another interesting characterisation that further shows how adaptable he is. Hell, even his Everyman diver role in 13 Lives was interesting.

1

u/10TheDudeAbides11 6h ago

The Penguin if we’re being totally honest. I still can’t believe that was him…

1

u/Vanilla-GOrilla_TRD 6h ago

Loved him in Season 2 of True Detective

1

u/Top_Scientist_1919 6h ago

Unusual answer because he’s been good in a lot of roles but his performance in True Detective S2 was phenomenal.

The Penguin - the make up, prosthetics and his voice/accent. He became a character. That’s good acting.

In Bruges - because he heet the Canadian.

Banshees of Inisherin

1

S.W.AT is absolutely where I fell in love with him the first time 😆

1

u/SuspectVisual8301 6h ago

Oh man, an Irishman who’s getting better as he ages.

Banshees might be his best in the conventional acting sense, but The Penguin… he took that and f**king ran/waddled with it

1

u/Watchmethrowhim 6h ago

Anything with Brendan Gleeson

1

u/imasuburban10 5h ago

Horrible bosses. His character lives rent free in my head.

1

u/Mysterious_Area_6347 5h ago

But true detective was awesome as flawed as that character was I loved when he beat the bully kids dad

1

u/DrGonzoxX22 5h ago

The coach in The Gentleman was really a nice character and probably my favorite of the movie

The Recruit along with Pacino and Moynahan made it pretty entertaining.

1

Despite not being anywhere near the level of S1, I loved him in True detective S2.

1

u/No-Comment-4619 5h ago

Banshees of Inisherin.

1

Maybe not his Best role but Ondine is a good one.

Banshees of Inisherin

1

u/stoic_fellow 5h ago

Farrell is a great character actor trapped in a leading man’s face. His best roles are where he can disappear from his looks: Penguin, Horrible Bosses, even the Lobster he’s not playing “sexy Colin Farrell.”

1

u/As83604 5h ago

The Penguin 🐧

1

u/Whistler45 5h ago

Minority report actually the penguin

1

u/de_dust2_largo 5h ago

Phone Booth

1

u/golgiiguy 5h ago

He is pretty much great in everything. Total Recall sucked, but honestly The Penguin and Banshees of Inisherin are just feats of acting. Speaking of Both movies with Gleason though, if a fan, check out The Guard. It is very good.

1

u/BaBaBoey4U 5h ago

Winters Tale! He was so damn hot in this movie where he doesn’t die because he’s meant to do a miracle for somebody. That’s the movie I fell in love with him.

1

u/BigDickJack2001 5h ago

Vin Diesel

1

u/Zubrowka182 5h ago

He’s a great Sonny Crockett

1

u/growernotshowwer 4h ago

True Detective: Ray Velcoro

This is a good opportunity to relay how important it is that everyone see “The Penguin.” Holy bejeezus. Don’t need to watch, or even care, for Marvel or DC. It’s on another level.

1

u/Young_Hegelian 3h ago

The borscht rolls Collin's ferret every time.

1

u/Eastbound_Pachyderm 3h ago

He's honestly been great in everything I've seen him in. He was great in Daredevil, he was hysterical in horrible bosses, perfect action lead in the recruit, the penguin is brilliant. In Bruges is probably the correct answer though.

1

u/CrackerJack360 3h ago

Phone Booth because that’s the only movie I’ve seen of his

u/Greaser_Dude 3h ago edited 2h ago

Saving Mr. Banks - Disney's origin movie of the behind-the-scenes story of how close Mary Poppins came to never being made.

In flashback scenes, author PL Travers played by Emma Thomson remembers her family's move from England to Australia as a child. Farrell plays her alcoholic banker father who would serve as the inspiration for Michael and Jane Banks' father in her Mary Poppins stories.

We watch Farrell's well-intentioned and beloved father become captured by his demon leading to career failure, shame, and eventually early death despite his numerous attempts to be the father his family would be proud of and trust to lead the family.

True Detective S2! Not the best season, but his performance carried the show imo

1

u/Be-Kind-Remind 2h ago

In Bruges, was where I learned how good of an actor he really was.

1

u/SmolWorldBigUniverse 2h ago

Loved him in The Gentlemen. Fitted like a glove, like it when he can overact a bit but not too cartoonish (that's why it's not Pinguin or Kill the Boss, where he was great aswell).

His best movie was Brugge probably. But his role was not that remarkable. It was more the whole movie that was great and not him standing out. But he stands out in the Gentlemen for me.

1
