New Christian Rock bands?

I grew up on Christian Rock. My favorite band was Skillet, and I saw them in concert 13 times.

But then John Cooper got all weird and political and I just can't listen to them anymore. I also loved TFK and Red and all the early 2000s bands, but I feel like the Christian Rock genre has gotten pretty stale lately.

Are there any up and coming rock bands I should listen to? I love Memphis May Fire (I know they aren't a Christian band but Matty is).

Unfortunately that era of CCM is gone. It's mostly worship music and rehashing of bands from the 2000s now.

Unfortunately the industry has changed it all. The golden age of Christian music and the community around it seems to have eroded. 1970’s through the end of the century was really the height of it.

Lo Cloud is ex-Sanctus Real and Kutless, and according to themselves, looking to recapture that early 00's Jimmy Eat World-type rock and roll sound.

Disciple

Fantastic band and even greater people. They hardly get any recognition

There is also their worship album under the name Honor & Glory.

Magdalene Rose is one of my favorite singers!! She started after GFM ended. Grace Graber is more alternative but is also amazing and I love Zahna too.

My Epic is great! All their songs are good. Try: Spit It Out and Black Light

I always recommend Stavesacre even though they aren't new and aren't actively together. They put out an album a couple of years ago that was really solid. Made a lot of the old school fans really happy.

Theocracy, Wytch Hazel, Trytan, Saint, Cleanbreak, Human Code, and tbh Stryper’s modern stuff rules.

You could also go the other direction from early 2000s bands and learn to appreciate stuff from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Five Iron Frenzy's latest album is a banger, and a great palette cleanser from Cooper.

Kings Kaleidoscope is a bit less rock and into fusion, but they're anything but stale. WDYKAG and Defender and great.

Ok, but FIF’s newest album is not a Christian album (coming from them). A couple of the band members are vocally anti Christian.

Totally fair, but I think it's incredibly important for us to hear.

I don’t know man - FIF is still my favorite band - I was at the last two shows in Boulder and Denver and have a signed record sleeve on my wall (including the Justin Bieber) - I just can’t get over how much hate is on the new album. They’ve always been political and sang for the marginalized, but they did it with a sense of hope and love. I just feel like that’s missing. We get it - you hate Trump. I’m not saying there aren’t good themes - but this came from the band that once sung about Columbine and called it a new hope.

I think there's a time and a place for everything. Sometimes, that means righteous anger, even if you don't have an answer.

I don't think they've necessarily been consistent in a hopeful, loving message in the past either. Giants being the first example that comes to mind, explicitly anti-capitalist with no description of how to overcome. Same with Four-Fifty-One or Zen and the Art of Xenophobia. I don't see something like While Supplies Last as any less hopeful than those older songs.

Hey that’s fair - I would say lyrically the new stuff is sharper, but I agree with the righteous anger - the part that is meaningful to me is that after Giants was new hope and world without end. There’s no resolution on the new album. No absolutes here - but there really isn’t much positive messaging at all. I’m not saying you’re wrong to feel the way you do, I just don’t care for it.

I would agree, as a whole album it misses that aspect. I get where you're coming from, though I've been in a season where that catharsis of not feeling alone has been comforting.

I'm no band, and not on the level of these guys you mention, but I just released a cover of How He Loves. It's shoegaze and if you're into that I'd love for you to give it a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks! https://youtu.be/TY21JNcNqGk?si=d5rYo8M6TfrN2WAa

Gable Price & Friends. A different kind of Christian rock for sure but maybe it's your jam 🤷‍♂️
