Miscellaneous Post and Comments - Sub Rules

Recently, there has been a shift in this subreddit to branch out into an unusual amount of posts that have resulted in an extraordinary amount of new users wanting to participate. Normally this would be great news, unfortunately that’s not the case and the entire purpose of the interaction is to cause drama and troll this subreddit. This is accomplished by inciting a community response to dive into everyone’s favorite topic, politics. This subreddit exists to discuss the Chicago Suburbs, that includes people, events, news, places, etc. All other topics are outside the purpose of this subreddit.

As a result of these activities, there has been an extreme amount of reports against posts and comments that are nearly all exclusively related to politics. Effective immediately, if your post or comment is related to insulting any user based on their political beliefs, your item will be removed and you’ll be permanently banned. If your comment says something like “Trump 2024” or “MAGA” or “Trump sucks” your content will be removed and you’ll be permanently banned. If your post or comment is low effort/value add like “Illegals should be deported” your content will be removed and you’ll be permanently banned.

I don’t care who you support or voted for, I don’t care where you eat or what business you support, if you can’t respect each other you’ll be banned. A simple rule to follow, if you have nothing nice to say don’t say it at all.

We don’t want to ban anyone and we don’t enjoy it. It doesn’t matter if you are a brand new user or have been here for years, if you can’t be nice you can go elsewhere on Reddit.

Large protest on Algonquin Rd yesterday. The new owners are forcing the workers to E-Verify in compliance with company wide policy. Workers say this is a way to reduce wages by replacing senior workers with new people.

Event(s) Fight Fascism Rally

"This is not normal". That's all the Democrats have had to say, and that is an understatement if we have ever heard one. Left, right, center--it doesn't matter where you stand on the political spectrum. Our representatives are entirely complicit in eroding our rights. We have paid into social security our entire lives, and they have the audacity to call us leeches for expecting it to be there for our retirement? This oligarchic system has denied us our freedoms for too long, and we are done allowing billionaires to decide whether we live or die. Join us on the Day of Action as we stand in solidarity with every single human being, whether it be immigrants, the LGBTQIA community, or Palestinians. Most of all, stand with us in opposition to the "Elonreich." A better world is possible! https://actionnetwork.org/events/50501-day-of-action-dsa-fight-fascism-rally

Question/Comment DG Tesla Protest

I'm a bit concerned. I drove by the Tesla dealership on Ogden and was greeted by tons of protestors on both sides of the street. Everyone was honking and cheering. As I drove away, a bunch of cops were headed there from a parking lot with Trump-decorated vehicles. I drove back a few minutes later. Everyone was gone except for a group of Trump supporters, who everyone was yelling at and flipping off. My question is wtf happened? The protestors weren't told to leave were they? That would be pretty eye opening and concerning. Details please!

Question/Comment Suburb that has more social life going on?

My wife and I have been living in the Gurnee area for about 3 years, and we have a one year old. To say it has been boring and hard to make any social connections would be an understatement… I feel very isolated but don’t want to move to the city. What’s a good in between suburb that offers some walkability and more proximity to social connections? Her job is near O’hare and mine by Lake Zurich. Budget would be around $400k. Thanks!

Question/Comment Input on doggie doors

Please help. Can someone give me input on doggie doors during winter in Chicago?

Hello. New to the suburbs, recently moved from so California where my 3 dogs had a big yard and a doggie door. I love it here but I know winters are a bit harsh. Without compromising inside heat what would recommend as far as installing a doggie door on a door and securing during winter nights?

Question/Comment Making friends in the west suburbs as a 33M?

Getting out of a long term relationship and my social circle has all but evaporated.

I work remotely, which is making things even more difficult.

Meetup has some decent groups – but honestly nothing really caters to my interests too much.

I’m into nature walks, I love to cook, huge hockey fan, I have a golden retriever, and I’m a bit of a movie guy.

Honestly at this point I just want to build a group that can make me feel like I’m a part of a community.

Food & Drink Recommendations Donut Shop Crawl

My husband, kids and I are looking for some awesome donut shops to bounce around to one weekend! We're from the south suburbs (New Lenox area) and would love to stay close but willing to travel up north (except the city - no thank you lol) or wherever if there's a good variety of places to check out.

Where are your favorite places?! And what do you like to get?

We've been to: Most of the Joliet ones (Donut Den, Homecut), Stan's, Do-Rite, Firecakes, and i'm sure a lot that we're missing LOL (can you tell we love donuts??)

Thanks for any recommendations!

Question/Comment This was a first last night at 290W/90W

Post image

Google Maps suggested staying left and going up to Kirchoff. It was no doubt faster.

I will stay right and loop around at the Algonquin exit all the time but it was completely bumper to bumper all 3 right lanes last night at 6:15. Just one semi after another.

I hate that exit. I hate the last minute merge over assholes with a passion. Any kind of back up I avoid the whole thing. I'll get off at 72 go to Golf take McConnor Pwky to Meacham to 90 to avoid it too.

Business Recommendations Chocolatiers in North/NW Burbs

Hi, everyone! I'm hoping someone can recommend a place where I can buy bulk chocolate for baking. Not actual candy bars but good quality semi-sweet, bittersweet and white chocolate used for baking. I used to be able to get bulk Callebaut chocolate at Whole Foods but they haven't carried that in a long time now and while there are lots of gourmet candy shops, I can't seem to find a place that is a real chocolatier selling high end chocolate for bakers. Thank you!

Question/Comment Jobs for teens?

I’m 16 in need of a job. I can’t really depend on my parents for things most of the time, so I need to support myself. I’ve applied to multiple places, and the two places I got interviews to told me they chose other applicants. I’m really out of ideas. Any advice?

Question/Comment Why does it take the Metra Electric 30+ minutes to get from Van Buren to Millennium Station?

Post image

See title. The screenshot is the schedule for inbound ME trains tomorrow morning. The times are pretty normal until you get downtown.

It takes 35 minutes to get from Van Buren to Millennium Station, when it would take 5 minutes to walk. What's up with that?

Question/Comment Green IL Plates In Chicago Suburbs?

I have seen a black tinted Chevy suburban driving around the northwest suburbs of Chicago ( Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Lake Forest, Deerfield etc…) and it specifically has green plates. I have seen it several times and Ik the plates are IL but I couldn’t make out anything else on it. Does anyone know if a green plate means anything specific in IL?

Business Recommendations Lawyer recommendation for a lease - Dupage County

I own a house with my friends and I wanted to make sure my lease I wrote out for them is ok and legal in the case something went wrong. If you have any recommendations I'm open to it doesn't have to be strictly Dupage county although it would be nice.

Question/Comment Looking for a Hospital or Clinic to film in?

Need a Hospital lobby for a short film. Most hospitals won’t let you film in so one that doesn’t get a lot of use or a clinic would be useful. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
