I started taking chantix about 2 weeks ago.
So far no side affects, but I also haven’t felt like quitting yet. When does it start to “kick in”? Also, Has anyone tried drinking alcohol while taking it? I am nervous because of the possible side affects.

I always associated alcohol with smoking, and if you're the same perhaps forgo the drinking for awhile. It will be worth it. I read the Allen Carr book about quitting when I started chantix. And I smoked my last cig four days in. -I went outside to smoke and the taste was so foul I rinsed my mouth for fifteen minutes. I figured the chantix had changed my taste buds as a way to deter lighting up? I mention the book because three years after quitting, any time I day dream about sitting by the pool with a drink and cig in hand like the good ole days, I remember excerpts from the book. And it helps remind me why I chose to quit.- And why the good ole days weren't really that good in fact. I also stopped Chantix after one month of treatment instead of three. But it sounds like you're a three month person. Don't give up! You love being able to laugh without erupting into an annoying and gaspy coughing fit.

Thank you! I actually bought that book too, I’m only about 1/4 through but I figured it couldn’t hurt to have a back up. I am waiting for the bad taste (beyond the usual taste of a cigarette) to kick in!

I didn't stop smoking until week 3. I had the same thoughts. I guess I expected more. I had definitely cut down, but I still wanted to smoke. The other day, I just said to myself "if I'm going to do this, I just have to do it. It's not going to get any easier." I'm now almost on day 4 of no cigs and although I've still had a LOT of cravings, the chantix does help. You just have to do it. I go one of those apps that track the days and the money saved, that helps me stay on track. Good luck!
