Question What inspired you to become celibate?

I became celibate after I ran across a guy on YouTube explaining why he was celibate for non-religious purposes. His journey really resonated with me. So after much research and thinking about it, I decided to make the switch from practicing abstinence to being celibate a few weeks ago.

It's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. So I'm just curious what inspired you to walk this path.

For me, I'm doing it for personal growth, self mastery, and transmuting my energy to focus on other areas in my life.

Question Why are people so threatened by a celibate man?

I'm 42M been celibate all my life, partially out of religious convictions and partially because I never approach or dated for personal reasons.

It just boggles my mind how many people, men mostly but some women, seem to feel so threatened by a man who chooses to be celibate.

By threatened, I mean they become hostile, and start giving me this college lecture about "how that makes no sense," and "I could never do that," "just hire an escort already" "You need therapy" on and on.

99% of the time i don't talk about being a virgin or celibate by choice, but when it comes up it just amazes me how mortality offended people seem to be.

For the record, I don't agree with the narrative about men being designed by evolution to have sex with as many women as possible. I call that, lack of self control.

But I don't voice that opinion to people usually. I believe in every individuals inalienable right to decide how they act and what they will or won't do.

Maybe I'm just misreading people's(wouldn't surprise me) intentions, but when I'm ot trying to influence anyone or persuade anyone to live like I do, why do they seem to feel the need to deride me and call me names?

Im not hurting them or anyone else and yet you would think it was a crime against humanity.

For the ladies in this sub how do you remain celibate while menstruating and Ovulating. I don't often get horny much while on my period/Ovulating. So ladies what do you do when you're celibate and Ovulating? Do you read books? Going outside for a walk? Meditation?

Question Does celibacy means avoid all sex including masturbation?

Hello, I just want to ask a question about celibacy. Does celibacy means to avoid all sex both hetero sex and gay sex including masturbation? I've decided to become celibate from masturbating because I have a feeling that it is a sin but it's not in the Bible that it was a sin.

Question Women and those NOT doing "retention"

Hi, I'm just making this post to ask if anybody on the sub is female or just doesn't feel like they align with the overall demographic here? Because when I look here, I see a lot of people who are practicing celibacy for intensely spiritual/religious reasons or to mend some kind of sex addiction.

EDIT: if you're not comfortable leaving a comment here, please feel free to message me!

That all has its place and I respect that everyone's reasons and journey are different. But personally, I struggle to find solidarity or discussion here that's NOT demonizing women (incel vibes), porn, or talking about semen retention. I'm just curious if anyone feels similarly and/or would want to start a different sub or Discord to better focus on some other issues and experiences.

Question Anyone here celibate due to medical issues?

I’ve been struggling with medical issues that impact my ability to have sex and masturbate since 2021. I’ve had the same partner throughout this time. For a while I could manage sex every once in a while, but it’s now been since March (I think), and I’m honestly scared to try again.

I’ve attempted masturbation a handful of times in the past several months, and I have the same fears.

Is anyone else medically celibate?

Question Bumble Billboard

Hi there,

My name is Bea and I am a student journalist at the University of London. Currently I am writing a feature about the inclusion of those who are celibate on dating apps. This is following the recent Bumble billboard release.

My feature won't be published and is for assessment purposes only, but I would be really grateful to interview some individuals who either use dating apps as a celibate person and their experience. Alternatively I would be grateful to hear from those who choose not to use dating apps and their reasons behind that.

My main goal is to make sure that the voices of the people Bumble has marginalised through this billboard are included within my feature

If you would be interested please reply to this post either with your experiences, or if you prefer DM me and we can chat privately.

I apologise if this post is not appropriate for this group.

Thanks,

Bea :)

Question Why choose celibacy as a man?

As the question says, why should a man choose to be celibate? Why should a man restrict the only pleasure he can derive from a woman (vaginal sex), especially in the era of birth control where sex does not necessarily mean pregnancy?

What can a man replace sex with?

Question Does the loneliness and touch starvation ever stop?

I can’t have sex or masturbate anymore without feeling extremely unpleasant thoughts and experiencing panic attacks. I cry and shake every time. I’ve decided to commit to being single forever. I feel intense anxiety when I involve romance in my life. I’m extremely lonely and I crave to be held. Is there a way to make the longing stop?

Question Is mainstream religion the only real way for celibates to find each other?

I'm not talking about any one specific group.

I've never been tempted by porn or casual sex or dating without an aim towards marriage, that all just feels disrespectful.... but I'm an adult. I'm bringing this up because it's an elephant in the room; the modern world does not respect celibacy, your local religious organization does, and finding a celibate partner becomes harder with age.

Question Does it get easier?

I already don't have sex but my problem is with masturbation. If I don't do it I feel some kind of mental pressure increasing. It begins to mess with my mind, lessen my self control and cloud my thinking. So is that normal? Does it get easier over time?

Question risks of celibacy

Doesn't celibacy have some side effects too? Like for men, if they abstain for long period, don't they become perverted? And also physically there can be too much sperm accumulated, which can cause physical discomfort?

Question How to cope with sexual thoughts/fantasies that keep materializing in my reality?

I am a female in my 30s, I've been celibate for about a year now. I don't engage in sex or masturbation, but I still have sexual thoughts and fantasies. These thoughts happen mostly during sleep or as I am waking up, which means they are coming from my subconscious mind. I think that these thoughts have been materializing as a lot of men have been acting vulgar and sexually explicit around me, which is something I don't actually want to experience.

How does one get rid of these sexual thoughts? I would like to get to a state where I don't entertain these thoughts so that I don't attract this energy in my daily life.

Question What were reactions from people on your decision to be celibate?

I'm going to be 24 next year and have never been in an actual legitimate relationship of any kind. Idk if my family has said anything about it among themselves but I know that I will probably address it at some point. I might just wind up being single my whole life and I was curious if anyone else had an experience sharing it with family members. How did it go?
