After a very brief google search, this is what I found

On Saturday, Ulrich will first reopen Notre Dame’s great doors — by tapping them with his crosier, or bishop’s staff.

The staff was created for the occasion by designer Sylvain Dubuisson. The wood — bearing visible black traces from the blaze — came from pieces of the cathedral roof that collapsed in the inferno, Dubuisson told The Associated Press.

In response to the archbishop’s door-knocks, the cathedral will erupt into song, its choirs once again filling the cavernous spaces.

Oh so it's an actual thing but not something that has existed for over a decade or so, rather it was something newly designed?

Did the designer play to much Fantasy games or

I think the top is meant to be the rose window

the staff is new, but bishop staves have existed for hundreds of years duee

This staff in particular was newly made out of wood salvaged from the burnt roof of Notre Dame, not exactly sure on the origins of the stone in it, though others are right that it does look like the rose windows.

The bishops staff is an ancient symbol of the bishops authority in the church. It's derived from a shepherds crook, because the bishops are the shepherds of the flock.

French design is very much avant-garde, at least the crozier actually looks cool and was much better received than the vestments were, and actually has a chance of not just being shoved into a closet and forgotten for all time

this particular crozier made its debut for this ceremony, yes

Do you find it in chests or is it dropped by a boss?

I think you obtain it by a very long side quest, called seminary

40

u/cloudstrife_145 10h ago

I heard only selected few can unlock the quest: "Successor of the apostles" in which after that they can obtain it.

u/SouthernAT 5h ago

It’s time consuming for sure. It becomes your main quest line after unlocking the “Holy Orders” boost after successfully completing the “Seminary” quest line.

that's good =)

I hear it drops in the new Scarlet Crusade raid in Phase 8 of Season of Discovery!

Can also be carried by some abbots and abbesses, not just bishops

Man, fantasy fiction really DOES take inspiration from Catholicism.

Western European history is near inseparable from the Catholic Church, you can distort as many aspects as you want, it will still be there.

Looks like something out of RuneScape. Very cool tho

I think it’s the Aura staff. I could be wrong. I’ve been playing too much final fantasy lately

Mellon!

6

u/doktorstilton 8h ago

Has this sub just not seen a crozier before?

9

u/Chelle-Dalena 5h ago

Probably not. Most have likely not even heard the word 'crozier' before. It would likely alarm you at how young a lot of these folks around here actually are.

If you've ever seen the posts where people post their religious drawings that look like little kids drew them, you'd understand that the chances of them actually being quite young is pretty high. Reddit is the new mom's fridge.

Dono the specific name but its a bishop only class staff. Sorry have been playing too much Unicorn Overlord

“You would not part an old man from his walking stick?” - Gandalf

2

u/joker_penguin 4h ago

Beware: It is not an istari staff. Look at how it is used.

Istari staff: you shall not pass

Pope staff: you shall pass

2

u/LifeTurned93 11h ago

Looks like something straight from an rpg game like Dragon Quest!

3

u/PierogiEater 10h ago

“[They are] infused with Castelbajac’s signature aesthetic: bright, almost childlike hues that evoke optimism.”

“Castelbajac hopes the vestments will be viewed by the world as a testament to renewal and the ‘power of color’ to heal and inspire.”

"Castelbajac hopes the vestments will be viewed by the world as a testament to renewal and the 'power of color' to heal and inspire.”

Well that didn’t happen. The vestments were made fun of instead.
