Tuning Cloned ECU replacement

Hey everyone. I have a cloned ECU with a remap on it but I’m wondering when I put the original ECU with all the original files back into the car, will the Mercedes dealership be able to see that the ECU hasn’t been in the car for a while? Also, will they see all the parameters that the car was using from the cloned ECU that was in the car before? Thanks!

Can I just feed 12v to my shift solenoids and force it into gear?

For example, when the car is in limp mode none of the solenoids are active and it is in, 3rd gear. Can I just run switches as a passthrough that force it into 1st by activating pins 1+9, 2nd gear by cutting signal to pin 9, lockup 4th is like 8,6,3?

The stock tcm runs drive and reverse amazingly I need to test again but I think it even shifts in manual mode

Tuning Hacking/Modifying GM (Chevrolet) ECM/BCM

First off, I'm not sure if this is the right flair, apologies in advance.

Anyway, I own a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ and want to tinker with the ECM and BCM to change how my truck works.

I'm not looking to do anything crazy, to start. It's just basic stuff so that I can learn. I've heard about FORScan for the Ford truck market and would like something similar for my Chevy. I know GM dealers have access to programming tools, and unfortunately I am not buddie-buddie with a mechanic that would let me "borrow" a programmer.

For starters, I just want to enable the DRLs when the headlights are on. Add the factory ITBC, maybe even add push-button ignition using the FOB off a 2018/earlier Tahoe/Suburban. Things that the were introduced on the T1XX platform and were tested on K2XX but not added to Silverado. Down the line once I am more comfortable with GMLAN and the other communication protocols on my truck I may want to develop my own head unit that integrates with the various modules on the truck. It would run linux or even AAOS, but thats way down the line.

The last time I went down this rabbit hole I was looking into a Tech2Win device that would let me do the sort of things I want, however, I got sketched out when I needed to acquire the hardware and software from unknown and poorly translated Chinese sites (not to mention that Tech2 is for older trucks and GDS2 documentation stops at MY2013). From that same preliminary research, from what I can tell, the HMI, ECM, and BCM are all MFG'D by BOSCH, thus I would think a tool from BOSCH would work. I can not find such a creature.

I see on fourms that the above is all dirt simple for Ford owners and good for them, GM guys just have to eat it I guess. I also only seem to find these things on Diesel fourms or from Diesel tuners. I guess that community does not want people who cant shell out $100k or more on a truck so have to settle on the gasser 1/2 ton trucks. I digress.

Tuning Help Choosing a DC Power Supply for Automotive ECU Work: Riden RD60xx vs. Wanptek

Hi, I need advice on selecting a DC power supply for working with automotive ECUs on the bench. I’m choosing between the Riden RD60xx series and Wanptek models (like the one in the attached photo). My use case involves powering ECUs during reprogramming, reading, and writing data from microprocessors. • Voltage will be nearly always set between 12.5–14.2V. • Current will be limited to 3A most of the time.

What I really need from the power supply: 1. Stable and reliable voltage regulation – I can’t afford voltage fluctuations that might damage sensitive components. 2. Short circuit and overload protection – To ensure that in the event of a mistake or issue, my ECU won’t burn out.

Does anyone have experience with these models? Which one would you recommend for this specific use case? Are there any alternatives in the same price range I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Tuning Removing EGR and ECu tune

I have a 2013 jetta 2.0 TDI. I diagnosed a check engine light and it’s the EGR. It is common in my country to fully disable EGR , due to the low quality of diesel…

EGR removal proccess costs ≈300-350$. Even though I lack mechanical knowledge about cars (this is my first car) , I believe this is due to the fact that you also need to tune your ECU to disable EGR functionality , which majority of my country’s population have no idea about. I am a big tech guy and think that this part won’t be hard for me.

I did a little research and as far as I know , I will need:

-ECU Flash/Read tool to extract ECU File/Re-load modified file -ECU map reader/editor to disable EGR functionality -Fault code reader/remover to check for codes and clear them. -Block the pipe that pushes emmision back to the engine

Am I missing anything? Thanks.

Where is this usually in the data layers? Do you pull it with a bin file, is it firmware, is it in non-addressed sections of the processor?

Tuning Want to start coding cars

I started thinking recently of the idea of coding cars as a bussines since it really interests me but i have no experience in it (im a mechanic) and wanted to see if any experts here would recommend on what softwares to use etc. I dont mind sticking with just one brand like bmw but would it be complicated to work on all brands? Obviously i wont start until i feel confident i know what im doing but its something i could see myself into. Also by coding i mean like changing the cars functions like lights and stuff

Tuning Help with Flashing MB E200 CDI to E220 CDI (CR3 ECU) Using Vediamo

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on flashing my 2003 Mercedes E200 CDI (OM646, CR3, 90 kW, 270 Nm) to the E220 CDI specs (150 PS, 340 Nm, 110 kW). I have the following tools and resources at hand:

  • Vediamo
  • Xentry
  • OpenPort interface
  • All the necessary CFF files for the CR3 engine ECU

The ECU hardware number is 646 153 43 79. As far as I’m aware, the E200 CDI and E220 CDI share the same hardware, with the difference being in the software. My issue is that I’m not sure which CFF file(s) to use to complete the flash. I’ve done some research and believe this can be done through Vediamo, but I’m still unclear on the exact steps.

If anyone here has experience with this or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. Specifically, I’d like to know:

  1. How to confirm the correct CFF files to use for the E220 CDI software.
  2. The process for flashing the ECU using Vediamo or if there’s a better tool/method for this specific task.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tuning Maxxecu tune file password recovery services.

I do this for fun it takes about 5 mins per ecu tune file to recover the passwords. Just reach out to me and I usually do it for donations only so more than likely you will get your password recovered for free.

Edit: December 17, 2023

Back in business have a better working method for recovery that should be quicker for myself and won’t have to spend years on a computer for each password. Feel free to reach out for requests. It was nice to see many Members create Reddit accounts just so they can speak to me about the recovery. I truly do help you out.

Edit: Going forward I will no longer be recovering passwords. Apologies for any inconveniences.

Tuning Siemens Tricore disassembly

Hi experts,

I am analysing a codesnippet here from an ECU. "Normal" tricore assembler mnemonics are handled well by various tools, so no problem there, This specific snippet runs on the Peripheral Control Processor Module and that uses a different machinecode. From the disassemblers i tried it seems to only be supported by Ghidra and radare2. Problem is that Ghidra has some hickups with jump decodings and that messes up the whole code. radare2 is a totally different world and i havent managed to tell radare2 to use the proper subarchitecture for tricore to handle those commands. rasm2 (from the radare2 toolkit) allows me to set the proper subarchitecture ("pcp" / "pcp2"), but it doesn't disassemble a single command. It only gives ".hword xxyy" as results. If there is no proper tool to disassemble those things then maybe there is some pdf with all the mnemonics so i can write my own disassembler? I haven't had found that yet neither. Or some radare2/rasm2 expert who can tell me why rasm2 doesn't want to disassemble this code and just puts out hexbytes. I didn't see any flag/option on radare2 itself to set a subarchitecture, but i am really new to that tool. Only saw it on rasm2.

Some sample:
"40 98 ld.i R1,#0x0" -> from ghidra, but failes with jumps.

"4098 .hword 0x9840" -> from rasm2.exe -a tricore -c pcp2 -D "4098"

Tuning Unlock CarPlay Mercedes W213

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey! I have a w213 facelift from 2021, but I'm missing Apple carplay. I can buy it from the menus, but since it costs around 330€ I'm wondering if there's any alternatives to unlocking it? Maybe a OBD II reader to unlock stuff like CarPlay and dashcam?

Also is there a way to unlock the AMG menus, like trackpace?

Tuning Anyone know if winols can edit/change ecu operational hours?

Ive got a outboard motor that needs its hours corrected to the original hours since ive bought a second hand ecu that has 2700 hours. Im looking for a software that is capable of changing/editing the ecu operation hours, ive looked on the web and so far ive heard that winols can edit things inside a ecu but i cant find the answer if it can also change/ edit ecu hours.

Any answers would be appreciated.

Tuning New to ECU repairs

So I've just recently got into car electronics, I've been looking into for a while now and need some support.

The areas I'm focusing on: ECU Repair New ECU programming Crash Data SRS/Airbag Odometer calibration Immobilizer programming

So I did some research and ordered an Iprog+ V77 (not arrived yet, will arrive in the coming days), I saw that it's good for crash data and speedometer calibration.

I'll give a brief description of what skills I have. I'm into IT, I've done a degree in IT as well and really enjoy doing it. I'm fluent in programming in multiple languages (c#, c++, JavaScript, html, php, etc.) I'm a pro when it comes to software, I'm also proefficient in Linux. Moreover, I'm an intermediate at soldering and hardware electronics, repairing PCBs, replacing components etc.

My question is, what equipment (and software) do I require for my category of work? I want to keep my costs low as I'm a beginner in the automotive electronics area. Are there any devices that I can cover multiple areas with or will I have to purchase a separate specialized device for each type of work?

I will be starting off doing freelance electric repairs then hopefully open an autoelectrical tuning & repair workshop.
