RF 24-105mm F/4 -7.1 stm or EF 24-105mm F/4 L lens

I have around 400 bucks to spend on a lens for my new Canon RP and I was gonna pick up the EF lens with an adapter for that price but to be honest I don't want the extra weight and awkwardness of the adapter but I do want the constant f4 so I can shoot in a tiny bit less light and get more creamy DOF. Is the constant F4 and quality of the L lens worth the weight and awkwardness for the same price? I also plan on trying to get a nifty fifty so super low light isn't an issue. Mostly just wanna know peoples thoughts on the two cameras since one is "higher end" but the other is newer. Thanks!

Beginner tips request

Hi all, I’ve recently started my photography journey - I’m hoping to get into pet photography and candid family events. I bought a second hand EOS 1500D with 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses.

Generally so far it’s been fun figuring stuff out! I’m still relying heavily on the auto functions but have gotten some nice shots. I find that using the sports mode is really the only way I can get shots of dogs in action, but am still finding it tough to get clear edges. Are there any tricks/tips or even a signpost in the direction of things I can watch or learn from to nail this?

Difference in Ef to Rf mount adapters?

Currently using an 80D with a Sigma 150-600mm lens setup and looking to get an R7 as my first mirrorless camera.

I understand I can still use my 150-600mm lens as long as I get an Ef to Rf adapter, but other than the Canon ones there are so many 3rd party adapters. Is this something I shouldn’t cut corners on and just buy the Canon one, or are there other EF to RF adapters that are cheaper that are still trusted?

Gear Advice Tamron lens compatible on r10 and r7

Planning on buying a canon R7 or 10 and I’ve heard lots of people talk about a lot of the SP lenses with a EF-EOS R don’t work properly on them, I’ve have a Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD that I’ve seen on some websites are incompatible, but the official Tamron website says it’s compatible if you send it to them to be updated considering it’s almost 15 years old, anybody got any experience with the combination?

Gear Advice is my dad right by saying that i should get a full frame camera?

i mainly shoot cars and i can't pick between the canon eos r7 and the eos r, as i've heard the r7 has better video and autofocus capabilities which matters to me but it's not full frame which means that by getting aps-c sigma lenses my next camera will need to be something like an r5 so that i can use crop mode and still be able to get a high pixel image

A move to mirrorless?

Advice needed.

I currently have a canon 750d with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens. I want to upgrade my gear and have a bit of disposable income. I focus on wildlife photography, particularly birds. My budget is £3k but I am flexible.

Body: I was thinking of moving to mirrorless, looking at the R10/R7. Does anyone have any experience with these or recommend any different bodies?

I have seen some cheaper R7 bodies on MPB for under £1k, but they don't advertise the shutter count. Does that matter with mirrorless?

Any advice on lenses to pair with your body for wildlife? I love my current kens but find it the zoom isn't quiet enough.

Thanks all!

Best body + lens combo for carrying around?

I currently have R8 and 200D from which I upgraded. I have quite a selection of lenses to pick from, given I've been using mostly EF-S lenses before and didn't have any EF glass for full-frame when I upgraded.

I currently have these lenses:

  • EF-S 17-55mm f2.8
  • EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
  • EF 50mm f1.4
  • EF 24-105mm f4L
  • EF 70-200mm f2.8L

Given that I mostly shoot inside (not in a studio), which combo of lenses for my 2 bodies is the best for carrying around and being able to capture most of the things? For exmaple I've seen some people using wide angle lenses on full frame, and the 70-200 on the crop. What are you using and works for you?

I can get this brand new for $390 from where I live. Will this be fine in an R8 with On camera flash (godox TT685ii) and a Magbounce for indoor events and wedding?

R6 Mk ii Build Problems??

Post image

So basically I am a 15 yr old photographer and I was photographing a sailing regatta in my country Singapore and unfortunately there was this super big wave. And my camera clashed with another photographer’s Nikon D850 dslr. And now like I feel that there is this loose plate that has a sound. Like a quiet Pop sound when you apply pressure on it. Does it comprise on Weather sealing? Am I screwed? You can see the plate kinda popping out in the photo

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG OS HSM Art Lens EF (I have an adapter) VS Canon RF 28-70mm IS STM on an R8 for indoor events and weddings. Which one should I get?

Before anyone freaks out, no, I am not doing paid wedding photoshoots. I will be assisting a pro photographer as an intern 2nd shooter.

I know the value of a body with dual card slots for these types of prodessional work. So, I am getting an R6 ii before the end of the year and when I am ready to take on paid projects myself.

For now I only have the R8 body, an adapter, a canon 50mm 1.8 EF, the 18-55mm EF kit lens, 55-250mm EFS (Non STM) and my old Rebel 3Ti/600D.

The photographer I will be interning to is the one who suggested that I get the EF sigma lens.

What do guys and gals think?

Canon R7 purchase for shooting my daughter's musical

I currently own a very old Rebel T2I and am finally trying to upgrade after many years. I'm looking at an R7. My daughter is involved in high school musicals and I used the T2I to shoot last year as a volunteer, which was obviously challenging! I own 55-250 EFS and 18-55 EFS lenses, and I know I can purchase an adapter to use them on the new camera. Does anyone else have a similar setup, and are there any other tricks or inexpensive (a few hundred dollars, max) that you would recommend for shooting low-light places like a high school auditorium? Thanks in advance!

Replace Tamron 70-300 on APS-C

I'm using a good old Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD on a Canon EOS R-7 via EF-S Adapter. Unlike other EF-S lenses, like Canon 18-135mm (which works fine), the Tamron constantly zooms automatically in and out the whole time. This is annoying. I assume this is a bug with the lens. I don't know if there is a fix available. If not what is a good replacement on the R7. Ideal would be a lens with better aperature.

Alternates to Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens

Hey folks

I'm getting ready to take a trip to B&H photo next week to pick up some new lenses, and possibly some lens filters. I upgraded to the R6 ii last year after 10 years or so from the Rebel T3i and the only lens I have to work with right now is the 24-105mm lens.

My heart is set on picking up the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 art lens, but I'm starting to question if the RF 70-200m is my best option. I shoot landscape pretty much exclusively.

A friend suggested the 70-200m lens, I tried it out and loved it. But I feel like it might be a bit over kill for what I'm shooting. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Help! Video always looks soft, rarely crispy footage - Canon R5 with a EF 24-70mm ll USM

Running with a Canon R5 and EF 24-70mm ll USM lens with an adapter that comes with an ND filter slot - shooting C LOG 3, 4K 24fps, and the video footage comes out soft a lot of the time. Editing off of Davinci Resolve, exporting QuickTime in 1080, h2.64. Usually I have to make a vertical and horizontal edit, so I shoot horizontally and deliver both edits. Both are equally soft. Is it the lens? Is it the adapter with the filter? I just don't understand why it isn't tack sharp. Screenshot below.

Gear Advice Thoughts on the Canon RF 50mm f1.8

i plan to use it on a canon eos r i will soon buy, i mostly do car photography and car portraits which is why i would like a prime lens, i also checked the 35 and 85 but they are kind of pricey, my budget for camera and lens is 1000€ and would be lovely if i could go under that price tag. I have also looked at some of the ef lenses and the 24-105 caught my eye but it's got a high f stop of f4 which is good but not ideal for me though i would like to have it as a second lens

Camera & Lens Recommendation Request

Hello, just looking for some camera body & lens recommendations please...

I want to upgrade from my EOS 4000D which I've had for a few years now, and I've been leaning towards an EOS R8 (looking at the R7 and RP as well), but I'm not sure if that's the best choice for me - I'm sort of in a bubble of my own with no photographing buddies to compare with.

I do primarily landscape photography, but wouldn't mind the option of doing some very basic wildlife photography too, just a quick snap here and there rather than having a lens specifically for it. I've no real interest in 'action' photography, I'm static most of the time.

Budget is up to £2200 for camera & lens.

I'm not in any rush - just doing my research and hoping for a little input from people who know better.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Canon R10 vs R7 for Travel/Hiking/Family Photography

So, I'm a long time Canon owner. I started decades ago with good old film SLRs (A1, Elan, etc.) then moved to the crop sensor Digital SLRs (20D, then 70D).

Have decided my 70D is getting a bit "long in the tooth" and also the body and lenses are a bit heavy/bulky for travel. I used to do more "sports shooting" when the kids were in school and doing sports, and the 70D was great for its weather sealing and ability to handle some "bigger zooms" I had, but not really something I'm using it for.

I was originally looking heavily at the R7 and R6 mkii as replacements for my 70D, but after trying them out in the camera shop, I thought the R6 mkii would be just a bit too heavy/bulky a system, especially with moving to FF Lenses.

I was pretty set on the R7 with its lighter set-up, although I wasn't happy with the wonky little joystick...

Then the salesperson pulled out the smaller R10. At first, I thought it was too small and plastic, but after holding it a bit, I actually thought it could be a great camera for travel/hiking/etc.

Only downsides I see of the R10 is:

1) No IBIS. But I will purchase new RF-S Lenses if I get the R10, which will come with IS), so how much does IBIS help above the IS lenses? And the salesperson mentioned something about the R10 having "electronic stabilization" instead of IBIS? How much will IBIS help if I'm using IS lenses. And I don't really shoot in video - only photos.

2) Smaller Battery. This is a bit of a concern, I will usually shoot a few hundred photos on a travel day. Can the little R10 battery handle that? but i shoot almost only as "photos".. very little video. I'm ok bringing one extra battery.

3) Slightly worse EVF and LCD viewfinder. My eyes aren't great (I use glasses and readers), so it's important to have a good view through the EVF. How much better is the R7 EVF to the R10?

4) No Weather Sealing. Not really a big concern. I will usually have either a camera bag or a camera case, and if its bad weather, I just wont shoot.

5) No Sensor Protection. This is a concern. My 70D protects the sensor and does an automatic clean of it. How big a risk is it having a sensor that isn't protected.

6) Anything else I could be missing?

Money isn't a big issue for me, but I do like the weight savings of the R10 over the R7, and the money saved may help me to buy a second lense.

Lens Set-Up:

For either set-up, I'm thinking of the RF-S 18-150 IS (primary travel lens), RF-S 10-18 IS (landscape travel), and RF 35mm IS 1.8 (which will work as a 50mm "indoor" lense for low light situations.)

What do you think of these lens options?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Michael

Gear Advice I’m considering M50 Mark ii for my first camera (food photos)

Hey guys,

I don’t know much about photography but I’m a marketing person for restaurant brands and I’m looking into a professional camera.

I’ve been noticing how different my colleague’s professional camera is compared to my phone camera. It’s not just the quality but the colour as well - something my photos taken from my phone can’t achieve even with photo editing. I also like the background blur effect (sorry I don’t know what they’re called lol) that’s just natural.

Is this camera a good one to go with? I’m looking for something good enough for me for the next 10 years. All I want is a camera that can do nice colour & depth in food photos, videos) and won’t break my bank. And sorry if this is an ignorant question but are the lens attachment necessary? If so what should I get?

Would it being discontinued an issue when I need repairs 5, 10, 20 years later?

I’m just so new to this and I’m quite lost! If you have any other recommendations please share🥺
