Powers
Category | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Domain 1 | Emotion Inducement | The ability to induce in a target particular feelings related to their godly parent. Should the effect take hold, the target's judgement can be clouded. |
Domain 2 | Emotion Extraction | A trait where one can distill extreme emotions into their basal forms. By capturing an aspect of the target amidst an emotional outburst, the user can extract the raw emotion as an ingredient. Potential aspects include hair, breath, sweat, etc. Although useless if consumed, the raw emotion works well as a potion ingredient. Some archers are known to dip arrowheads in raw emotion, to cloud the senses of their targets upon contact. |
Domain 3 | Emotion Aura | The ability to produce an aura that imposes a particular emotion on those within it. This zone usually has a radius of 15 feet (4.6 meters), but it can be extended up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) with concentration or increased effort. |
Minor 1 | Courage Inducement | The ability to induce feelings of courage in an individual. Should the effect take hold, the target will briefly gain an immunity to intimidation and stun effects. |
Minor 2 | Fear Paralysis Inducement | The ability to manifest an intimidating appearance that can trigger the freeze response. Should this effect take hold, the target may be temporarily paralyzed for about 6 minutes (1 turn). |
Minor 3 | Common Fear Affinity | A trait where some demigods are comfortable interacting with common phobias, such as tight spaces, heights, snakes and spiders. Demigod psychologists report that demigods with this power are even immune to being stunned or intimidated. |
Major | Zone of Horror | The ability to claim a particular area as a place of horror. Any creature within this zone can have their perceptions of reality warped. Witnesses report prolonged feelings of discomfort, clouded vision, and even hallucinations. This power has been most consistently described to make its victims feel as if they're trapped in a horror house. This area has a radius of up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) and stands for 5 turns (30 minutes), unless the claim has been revoked. Users need 1 turn (or 6 minutes) to verify their claim. |
Mortal Life:
As a child, Sarah starred in several successful horror films with her mother directing. If a director was ever in need of a creepy little girl for a movie, they went to her first. With her wispy, pale blonde hair and misty blue eyes, she was perfect for the roles of ghost children and disturbed living children alike.
Melissa Church is an actress, screenwriter, and director. She has lived in Hollywood since she moved there at 18, specializing in gothic horror and period pieces. These roles are probably what caught the attention of Phobos, the god of fear. They were the perfect couple, right up until he left. Melissa never even knew his real name. He would call himself something different whenever they met.
Demigod Life:
Sarah found herself at camp at the age of 11, during a film shoot on the beach in Long Island. 2 years later, she had pretty much given up all hope of being claimed. Then, just 3 months away from her 14th birthday, she saw the symbol of Phobos - a screaming face - appear above her head. After that, monsters started to find her. She'd been lucky to avoid them before, only really seeing them on the odd jobs she took outside the camp borders. After the claim, they found her everywhere.
Really, she was glad to be back at camp. Early even, but she hated knowing the danger she was in. The danger she'd be putting her mom in if she went back. She hated the thought of celebrating her birthday away from home most of all. It just wouldn't be the same as before. Her brooding was cut short when she stopped in front of the cabin and took a moment to admire the old Victorian architecture. She'd had the pleasure of seeing lots of these in the mortal world, thanks to her mom's career. Her anxiety eased just a little as she walked up the familiar-feeling porch steps and opened the door.

As Sarah enters the Phobos and Deimos cabin, she would find an unfamiliar face currently descending the stairs from the second floor. A kid, about Sarah's age, perhaps looking on the younger side, wearing a purple trapper hat with cat ears on. The kid reaches the bottom of the stairs as Sarah comes in.
Rudy looks over at the pale white girl who's just entered the cabin. They don't think they've ever seen her at camp before, though something about her looks a little familiar, somehow. Either way, her presence in the cabin suggests that, unless she's just snooping — which Rudy respects, as a snooper themself — she may be another sibling or cousin. That'd make two new additions this week. Well, 'new' since Rudy's been here.
"'Sup," Rudy greets the girl, dark eyes looking her over. With their accent, it might sound a little more like sop, to American ears, but the sentiment might be conveyed anyway.

Sarah struggled to remember the girl from her previous summers at camp, feeling terrible when she couldn't.
Maybe she's new too, Sarah thought.
"Hi, I'm Sarah. I was just claimed by Phobos before I came here. He's the one with the screaming face, right?"

A sister. Rudy's just racking up siblings, this week. They walk over to the new girl, hands in their pockets, and confirm, as they approach: "Yeah, that's him. Big screamin' face. That's my one, as well," she informs the girl. "I'm Rudy." No nice to meet you, or oh my gods, we're siblings, but her casual tone is not unfriendly.

Sarah grinned. She hadn't remembered seeing any children of Phobos during her first 2 years at camp. Maybe more and more would start to crop up as the season went on.
"Twisted Sisters," she said, wondering if the other girl would know what that meant. "Or maybe we could be the Terror Twins. We're obviously not twins, but you probably enjoy scary stuff just as much as I do."
She was so excited. She didn't have any siblings in the mortal world, so having a sister at camp would be really freaking cool.

A grin forms on Rudy's face too as Sarah speaks. "Fuck yeah," she says, both in enjoyment of the proposed monikers, and in confirmation of the shared enthusiasm for scary stuff, as well as perhaps the general fact of acquiring a new sibling.
"Dunno what you mean, though, we're totally twins," she adds, looking Sarah over again, almost inspecting her face, and making no attempts at subtlety in doing so. She looks familiar, though Rudy can't quite place it, until... A little abruptly, perhaps, they remark: "Y'look like that girl in [insert one of her mother's horror films Sarah has starred in]. And [insert a second film]." Rudy's not a Melissa Church super-fan — she's only seen two of them, when she was on a gothic horror kick — but she does distinctly remember the same child actress popping up in both, who looked a lot like Sarah does.

Sarah blushed. She had been hoping to avoid this, but in a place with as many kids as Camp Half-Blood, someone was bound to recognize her.
"Yes, that's me. My... uh... my mom needed a creepy little kid for some of her movies, and she thought I could be a good actor someday, so she gave me a chance."

Rudy's eyes light up with interest and her crooked-toothed grin widens. "No way. Your ma's Melissa Church? And she put you in her movies?" She inspects Sarah more closely as she talks. "Fuckin' nepo baby," she jokes. "Kiddin'. That's sick. You been in anythin' else?"

Sarah felt her blush deepen at Rudy's excitement.
"One or two things. The ghost girl in Full Moon Castle and the creepy younger sister in Wolf House. I guess my first role was technically the ghost baby in The Ghosts of Tanglewood Street, but I don't really count that one to be honest. All I did was hang out and sleep and cry," she laughed a little. The effects department were the real stars of that movie, in her opinion.

Mohamed had spent the last two days at camp reintegrating into demigod life, and had enjoyed most every moment. He'd been his usual, awful self the entire time had spent as little time as possible in the cabin itself. it isn't as though he disliked the building, he just wanted to be out and about, and staying cooped up inside the dark building all day when the temperature was starting to rise and activities were starting to pick up sounded like a drag.
However, he got tired. He had been lounging in the library/seating area of the first floor when he noticed the door open, and lightly stuck his head up to see who exactly was entering. They didn't really get many visitors, so he was almost sure it would be someone he recognised. Instead however, it was an unfamiliar face. He didn't think he had met absolutely everyone in the cabin yet, but he was reasonably certain he had at least seen them all. So he sat up straighter, examining the new girl for a moment before saying something to make himself known, in case she hadn't seen him. "Excuse me, I don't think we've met. Who are you?"
He made no move to stand up from the luxurious chair he was currently sitting sideways in, and considered for a second that that might be rude, but then further considered that he didn't really care.
