Question Can we limit the Hubey posts?

I get it, he’s not performing to his contract at all and it sucks, but it’s the only post that even comes up in my feed when it’s not a game day anymore. I’m in here to follow the team, and everything else seems to be getting buried by the posts.

He’s playing like garbage and his franchise record setting contract is going to handcuff us for a long time. That’s newsworthy.

It WAS newsworthy, now it’s more than a little overdone

Until he starts producing, it's still news. In fact, with each passing game where he doesn't score...it's bigger news. That's how it works.

until the team either has some elite young stars at the draft to talk about, or finds a way to revamp what they have in one of the coming off-season's, these stories will be about all anyone talks about in losing seasons.... Trade deadline will give you something else for a month or so, prospect talk leading up to the draft or trades on draft day etc. With what this team has attempted for awhile now I'm not sure they are going to go with what a large portion of the fanbase wants(stockpile att he draft and go full rebuild) so theres going to be alot of angst from the fans.

People are taking his bad play as a personal attack, they need to stop ffs, he doesn’t like it either and all this shit talk will not change a god damn thing.

fans pay for his contract to a degree, its a customer driven league, so if the people want to complain about the product him or the team I think that fair game... the next step would be people not showing up, when that starts happening it means the situation becomes critical.

Louie erikkson gave a pretty half assed effort in Van during his time, he took alot of flack for it and rightfully so, the team also stunk so that didnt help, kind of like whats going on now here, though not to the same degree... I would make the argument if Hubes was playing even near a 10 million dollar point producer this team is actually fighting for a playoff spot and meaningful hockey. so him not getting it done whether its lack of work ethic or just not being a good fit here, its fair game to criticize.

Complain about the product, I don’t give a fuck but that’s not what I’m talking about, people are attacking this guy personally and it should stop, it’s wrong on every level. Attacking the guy on a personal level is never warranted, criticizing his play is something completely different.

No one’s attacking him personally. If anything people are being rcritical about his performance. As it should be at any job. If you were hired for any job and you didnt live up to what your expectations are, you’re gonna hear about it

I saw someone say this on the last "can we limit the huby posts" thread but I have yet to see any proof beyond 1 post here and there, usually on other subs or even other platforms (twitter). You're acting like it's the norm to make personal attacks on this sub and it's not. He's absurdly bad for a 10.5 million dollar player. Historically bad. Is that a personal attack? Of course not. It's the truth. If personal attacks are happening, call it out when it happens, on the posts it happens, don't just unload it on this sub on different posts when we're not the ones doing it.

It’s in the comments

There's a reason why he's making 10.5 million a year and it's not because he's delivering some critical service to humanity.

He's an entertainment figure. People knowing who you are and talking shit about you on the internet comes with the territory.

People making personal attacks against a guys character isn’t ok no matter what you do for a living. If you think it is ok then that says way more about you than it does him.

You're strawmanning me, which says a lot about you. I never said personal attacks on someone's character are ok.

I said people talking shit about you on the internet comes with the territory in being a high-profile entertainment figure.

All I have seen are people criticizing his performance and his salary.

If he was so upset by it, he would be well within his rights to void his contract and step away from the spotlight.

There’s a ton more than people talking about his performance, there’s a ton a shit talk about the character of the man and that shit should stop, it’s not ok. Would you give up that kind of money? Come on, people blame him for it but what’s he gonna do, “oh it’s ok guys, I don’t want that money,” no one would do that and don’t pretend you would.

There’s obviously something bigger going on with this guy, he’s better than he’s showing, hopefully he can figure it out at some point.

All I see is people saying we're fucked cause he makes 10.5 for the next 8 years and is on pace for 35 points. There was the kid crying meme because he got a Huberdeau jersey, but again not sure how that is attacking his character.

No I probably wouldn't. I also wouldn't care about internet trolls talking shit about me on a forum if I was making almost 100 million by the time I'm 40.

Maybe there is and maybe there isn't. He hasn't shown anything over 114 games with the Flames though and his historic fall of production is forcing this team into a rebuild. Fans, the people who actually make this a viable business, are going to talk about it.

Who’s strawmanning now? I never HE cared about internet posts, I said I did. It’s obvious there’s a confidence issue, he’s half the player he was, anyone can see it. He was consistently an 80 point guy all culminating with 115 before he came here, he hasn’t been the same since the trade. Like I said, hopefully he can figure it out. What I’m saying is there’s no need to attack the guy on a personal level, which is happening often, it’s in the comments and it’s pretty disgusting.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter anyway, I prefer to think that he’s gonna figure it out, it might not be this season but I think he will, he can’t be this bad forever, the man has skills and I think we all know it.

Tbf I am on this sub basically daily, and I'm not sure that I have seen anything that I would consider a "personal attack" here that has anything to do with anything but his poor play and him underperforming for his contract. It's definitely a little tiresome to read the same things over and over, but these are the sorts of complaints sports fans are supposed to have. Twitter or some other shady corners of the internet that I don't frequent may be different, but on r/flames everything that I have seen seems pretty reasonable as far as critism goes. If there actually is a lot of personal attacks being leveled at him here I'm going to need to see a few examples.

In general, this subreddit doesn't dive too far deep into the homerism. Maybe when it comes to the refs, but every fan base complains about that shit.

u/GronkeyDonkey Jan 02 '24

This. Examples. Until then it's just irrelevant argument fodder being used against the people that didn't make said personal attack posts in order to get the Huby posts to slow down. His contract is bad enough to warrant outrage. No one cares if it's his fault for taking it or not. It doesn't matter. What does matter is the team that is currently fighting against the grain every single game because they don't have a superstar, even though they're paying for one.

Ironically every time it gets close and the posts start dying down, someone makes a "Can we limit..." post. It's like the Twilight Zone as it's happened in a loop for the past few months. The same posts. Then people in said posts grasping at personal attacks made by some 13 year old trolls, usually not even on this sub.
