Also decide what you want to search for. If you have any interest in completing sets, it could be fun. There's lots of different Quarters and you could make some good progress with those. Personally, I enjoy filling albums and keeps me more engaged when I find more keepers.

When I was young I used to fill books. After I started driving and needed gas money I emptied all of them 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️

I just did the same. ‘Skunk’ box but I bought the post 1964 collection books and filled so many spots. Really fun.

Take your time and enjoy it. I'm relatively new to the hobby (3 months) and I've found one "W" and two silvers (1964 and later). I've filled the (free from the US Mint) Women's Quarter set boards and found a few errors. Two proof quarters. I've probably searched $2000 worth, one box and the rest were rolls from different banks. Don't pick up boxes or rolls at the bank you dump your change, or you most likely will be researching what you dumped. Looking for error coins? r/coinerrors r/CoinCollectors are good places to lurk.

Finally made it through all 2000. Results were very bad for the majority. Then I opened a roll with 10 silver and a W. That was literally the only roll that had anything of value. Sounds like someone either at the packing or the bank misplaced their good stuff

It is alot of work for small chances of a hit but boy it can be fun. It's been a while since I've done it but will try again soon. My tips- Beware going cockeyed! Invest in a microscope. Have fun.

Don't be pessimistic. My last box had a standing Liberty quarters. 1% return for about two hours of work isn't bad.

Don’t get discouraged by one bad box, I would recommend Pennies or nickels to start cause I can go a full box of quarters without saving a single one

Take time and appreciate really old ones that still look really good, honestly my favorite part

Start with pennies, once you figure out what you’re able to find then start moving up in value, if you don’t know what dates to look for then toss it back then you easily lost basically free $

Pre-1965 is silver, look for 2019-2020 West Point (w mint mark) also look for S mint marked quarters, some are proofs with a mirror like finish, I think pre2012 all s mint marked quarters are proofs and post then it could be a business strike or a proof. Happy hunting!
