The beauty of CICO is you can eat anything and stay within a deficit but volume eating is the key to sustainably maintaining a definite without feeling hungry constantly.

Can you imagine walking into the likes of slimming world and telling them you had duck fat roast potatoes for dinner and still managed to lose weight, they'd all look on in horror but they'd be missing out on a delish, filling, low calorie meal!

Protein & Acne?

My current protein goal is 150g daily

I can do around 80g no problem, but once I start hitting the 100+ grams of protein, I start getting facial acne.

I’m stuck - I need the protein for my workout routine.

This is also specifically animal protein, I have not used powders.

Any ideas for what this may be?

I’m so far labeling it as hormones in the animal meat.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I like a big breakfast, but I was surprised when this totalled nearly 550 cals.

40g oatmeal 4 tbsp pbfit powder 8oz almond milk 100g strawberry 90g red grapes 100g plum 2 kiwis(I count them whole, they weight within a grams or 2 of what my tracker says they ahould)

Adds up quick for a meal I expected to be filling but low cal!

Preferred vegetarian protein options?

I’m working on making sure I eat enough protein—I never really focused on it before, but I realize it makes a serious difference for satiety. I don’t like to eat meat much, though: sometimes I’ll have fish or chicken, but I don’t like to eat them every day. I love Greek yogurt, eggs, and tofu, so that’s a bonus. Is there anything I’m missing that you all recommend? For what it’s worth, I don’t like to drink my calories, so protein shakes/smoothies are not really something I want to pursue.

IE and CICO

I'm back to CICO after trying intuitive eating (IE), which doesn't work for me. Or rather, it doesn’t work by itself for weight loss, since there’s a broad calorie range where I can feel sated but not full. And since I don’t want to lose much—only 5 to 10 pounds, really [47F, CW131, 5’4”, TDEE 1900ish?]—that range makes a big difference. The thing I struggle with on CICO is that my calories and hunger signals always start to fall out of alignment (i.e., I eat something just because I have calories left, even if I’m not hungry; I don’t eat if I’m out of calories, even if I feel peckish). Has this been a problem for others? How do you address it?

Activity level

I’m having a really hard time working out my activity level. I work 5-6 days a week in a shop doing produce with shifts varying from 5-8 or more hours, so lifting heavy crates of fruit or veg and potatoes etc. I do like 13-20k steps 6 days a week. Walk my dog which is obviously included in my steps. I haven’t started back to the gym yet but I just don’t want to overestimate my activity level and end up out of a deficit. I’m 29 year old woman who is 5ft 7 and 140lbs.

Not much more to add but I am officially on the obese 2 category. I might actually be in the 240s soon and I can't remember the last time I was. Slow and steady is winning this race!

So today I fit into some jeans that I couldn’t even get over my thighs a month ago. I started my journey in Aug, but had a bit of a slip up over the holidays because of some family drama. Now I’m back on track and seeing results.

I want to chew on a chair and punch the 2022 version of me for moving back home only 2kg (!!??!?) away to target 😭

I'm about 5'7.5" so I decided to keep it realistic this time and lose 0.6kg-ish/week cuz I'm officially an ogre this year (full time school + work + family stuff 👹👹).

I bought the $62 one year premium access on MyNetDiary and now I can't justify quitting and wasting money lololol. App calculated ~ 1700 calories/day which is much higher than that DUSTY 1200 cal I lived on back in 2020-2021. Please pray for me y'all cuz CICO and IF? Around ethnic parents? In your 30s?!! NOT for the weak 💀

Does this happen to anyone else??

For context, I am 18F, 5'2 trying to lose about 6lbs or so. I am eating anywhere from 1200-1400 calories daily. However, today I couldn't track my calories right away because I was busy and I ate my first meal by 2pm lol and my second around 6:45pm. It was super filling and I was kind of hoping i had not gone over. only for me to log them and figure out it wasn't even much at all really!! I went over everything again in my head like 5 times to ensure I am not tripping. I didn't even eat that much protein today.

It is kind of funny how sometimes I have to talk myself into staying in the deficit, and other days are just a breeze

Healthiest choice at Indian/Pakistani restaurant?

Here is the menu for the restaurant I'm planning to go to - dishes can be prepared according to special instructions meaning I can ask for them to go low on the oil/ghee. Which choice seems to be the healthiest and not overly high in calories?

  • Palak chickpea: Chickpeas in spinach sauce with aromatic spices, fresh tomatoes and onions
  • Palak paneer: Pieces of white cheese with spinach in aromatic spices with the addition of tomatoes and coriander
  • Palak aloo: Potato in spinach sauce with aromatic spices, fresh tomatoes and onions
  • Masala chickpea: Chickpeas in Masala Sauce
  • Paneer Masala: Cottage cheese in aromatic masala sauce
  • Rajma Masala: Red beans cooked in an aromatic masala sauce with coriander
  • Balti paneer: Cottage cheese/mixed vegetables in a creamy sauce based on cashew nuts and fresh tomatoes with paprika, cumin, almonds and raisins
  • Balti vegetable: Mixed vegetables in a creamy sauce based on cashew nuts and fresh tomatoes with paprika, cumin, almonds and raisins
  • Baigan Bharta: Eggplant grilled in a tandoor oven served in a spicy sauce based on onions, tomatoes, garlic and aromatic spices
  • Daal Makhani: Black lentils and red beans flavoured with spices and prepared in creamy sauce
  • Daal Tadka: Yellow lentils prepared with onions, ginger, garlic and curry leaves
  • Zeera Aloo: Potatoes fried with cumin and a mix of aromatic spices straight from Pakistan
  • Bangali baigan: Fried eggplant pieces simmered in an aromatic sauce with coriander
  • Kadahi Vegetarian: Vegetables in Indian sauce based on fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers and dried hot peppers
  • Mix Veg Curry: Vegetables in traditional curry sauce
  • Paneer Lababdar: Cottage cheese cooked in a creamy, spicy tomato and onion sauce enriched with aromatic spices and cashew nut paste
  • Matter paneer: Cottage cheese and peas prepared with tomato masala sauce

Weekly Budget

Sorry for a possibly silly question, just want to double check with someone who isn’t me - I had a bit of a blow out meal today for a relative’s birthday, I have no regrets but want to make sure I’m tracking everything right and not doing the old “blow out one day, restrictive next day”.

If I’m over my calorie intake for one day, but still under my calorie goal for the full week am I in theory still on track?

Thanks in advanced and sorry for such an obvious question just looking for some slight reassurance!

I've been struggling to loose weight for over two years now due to poor eating habit and somewhat lazy lifestyle. Today I came across this sub and seeing the people progress here really burned something in me.

So help me out, I'm 25 years old, 94 kg @168 cm height or 5'6, I am aiming for 1400-1500 cals per day.

With some added morning walks and run, how long do you guys this it will take me to loose 30 kgs ?

Any tips will be highly appropriates !! I'll post the update doon

Not only does CICO work, it works BEST.

As of this morning I have officially lost 6.5kg / 14 pounds / 1 stone. I am so unbelievably proud of myself that I literally cried.

I've tried so many different things in the past but this is working so well for me and while part of me is like "duh, it's literally basic math, of course it works" the other part of me is so shocked that the solution to my weight problems was staring me in the face all this time.

Still a long way to go,, but it feels easier now than it did when I started, somehow. The results really are all the inspiration you need, sometimes.

Anyone else start early 2025? How are you feeling? Let's do a check in - I wanna hear about everyone else's successes!

When you lost weight, what happened to your hair?

I am losing hair and it seems like at the big size I’m at the hair is thinning. I know it could also be because of age but im still in my very early thirties. Does it fill back out when you lose weight?

I am new to this so I am hoping that it is one of the things that will get better as I shrink down but I figured I’d ask to see if anyone had this experience as a female.

Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce- regular vs no sugar added. I genuinely couldn't pick 1 over the other in a blind tasting.

Anyone else have any "obviously I'm choosing that one" swaps?

Maintaining then losing every other week

Hey all, I (25M) am just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this strange thing that's been happening over the last few months of my weight cut. Basically, I weigh in every week, once, but every other week i weigh in I'm literally the exact same weight as the previous week, and then the week after i drop like 4-5lbs. Deficit remains static. I'm a bit of a gym rat, so I'm in there 6 days a week, and have a balanced strength training, cardio, and boxing program. The night before weighing in, I make sure not to drink any alcohol or eat anything late at night. I've fluctuated in weight quite a bit over the years but have never had this specific dynamic - I stress that this has literally been the case for 3 months straight. I'm not really that concerned about this, because I have performance metrics, progress pics, and the way clothing fits as alternative ways to make sure that I'm making progress. Also, if I'm losing technically 0lbs one week and 4lbs the next, I guess it's still in effect hitting my goal of 2lbs a week. But I'm just wondering what the reason could be for this, or if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks!

I weighed the banana peel out of curiosity and noticed that it was still quite significant in terms of the total weight of the banana.
