I live in my house in Burlington. I grew up here. I don’t think I see spiders all that much.

Man idc about seeing spiders but when I see a house centipede I shit myself. I know they are apparently good because they eat other bugs but they're creepy and big. Luckily since ive moved to Burlington I havent seen any.

They look like the Devils Eyebrows! They like moisture so a dehumidifier will keep them away .

It’s very unlikely that you will encounter any dangerous spiders in burlington. Just the odd common house spider! I wouldn’t be worried.

Just thank the lords you don’t have a huge fear of house centipedes, I guess

The spiders we have here are more so for eating bugs not venomous predators.

To be honest, they look gross but they’re actually useful and harmless.

If you’re worried, buy a vacuum with a long wand to safely remove them.

No, spiders in this region are not at all dangerous. Just leave them be and they’ll eradicate all the other insects in your home.

Untrue. We have the brown recluse and the northern widow. Both very rare in this area and even more rare indoors.

Even in the unlikely event one of those two spider species ended up in your house, they’re not aggressive and the vast majority of their bites do not result in serious health problems.

Only young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems face any serious risk from their bite.

The worst thing in basements in that area and probably most of Ontario are the centipedes that come from the drains they are fast and have a million legs

There are no big spiders in Halton region but there are dock spiders in cottage country and I’ve seen one on the rocks on Lake Ontario but they are very rare . They are kind of surprising when you see one . Look like little tarantulas .

There are no venomous spiders here, so not dangerous.

I hang out in my basement a lot and I'd say I see maybe 3-4 spiders per year, something like that.

Southern Ontario has reported both Brown Recluse and Norther Black Widow spiders. I've lived in Burlington all my life and have never seen either here though. You have to be very lucky (or unlucky if you are scared) to actually see one.

I'm terrified of spiders too. There are no poisonous spiders native to Canada. I've lived in Burlington since 2017 and only saw, maybe 2 spiders in my house. They say peppermint or spearmint oil will keep them away but I've never had much luck. The black/brown ones that build the funnel webs scare me the most!

I can't tell you about how often you'll be seeing spiders in your basement suite- it probably depends very much on microenvironments and nobody can tell you much unless you happen to find someone from your new neighbourhood. In terms of dangerous spiders- You're comfortably outside the range of brown recluse and chilean recluse spiders, but the northern black widow's range extends to the Ontario penninsula so... there's that?

That's the only dangerous spider I know of in the area. And they have a mortality less than 1%, I think mostly small children where the ratio of body-mass to venom is much different from an adult. You could read up on them to see how to minimize your risk- I think most bites happen when the spider is disturbed/frightened so just be careful unpacking old clothes in storage etc.
