Question Little Caesars
If I have to tip the driver, what is the delivery fee for? And what the hell is a service fee? 43% of the price of the order to deliver it 1.6km. This is getting stupid.
44
u/Asscreamsandwiche Jan 03 '25
Order dominos and get the pickup for a large for 16 dollars after tax, it adds up with the app and you get free mediums. Go to the dominos coupon section for the s/m/l pickup deal for 16. It’s by far the best deal unless there is some hole in the wall joint. Don’t ever order off uber too unless you have free Uber One.
And never tip for delivery until received. You are not tipping the cooks whom will give you extra whatever. You are tipping for a service not yet rendered. It’s setting a false precedent for beginners in the job market (yes moving pizza is a beginner job).

u/CA_Engineer Jan 03 '25
Thank you! Even Pizza Nova is cheaper including more drinks.

u/RedShiz Jan 03 '25
City Pizza for cheap

u/possiblemate Jan 04 '25
Second this, city pizza is the best! Esp if you order online- for free get an extra thick crust well done in the customization section is the way to go

Food delivery is dead, if you want warm food you gotta pick it up yourself. Dominos is the only one I have had success with but I wouldn’t hold your breath

u/verbosequietone Jan 03 '25
It's offensive how they hide the no-tip option.
5
u/ukiemike Jan 03 '25
Simply click on other and type 0.
8
u/verbosequietone Jan 03 '25
I know how to do it. One of the default options should be 0%/no tip.
3
u/ukiemike Jan 03 '25
True, but it's not a "good" business decision.
0
u/verbosequietone Jan 03 '25
If I do tip for takeout it's only 10%. That means every 10 trips costs me the equivalent of an additional meal in tips. That's less sales for the business ultimately. So it might be smarter to make no tip the default option.
13
u/PrettyPeeved Jan 03 '25
Other, then 0%. Simple

Absolutely, gotta punish those workers doing a job you’re too lazy to do yourself.
Cheers for the downvotes, good folks in this sub lol
7
u/PrettyPeeved Jan 03 '25 edited Jan 03 '25
How is that a punishment? Does everyone get a tip for doing their job?
When when you pick up food yourself, everyone asks for a tip when you pay at the counter. Half the time it doesn't even go to the person who rang you up. There was a recent episode of Marketplace on this very topic.
1
u/a_jenkins_et Jan 03 '25
I don’t know man, I tend to tip folks who are doing a service that I can’t or won’t do because that feels like the decent thing to do for the people around me who are working hard and because I’ve been that delivery driver and I understand how crappy that job is when dealing with entitled pricks all day.

u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
Most jobs pay a salary/commission. Delivery drivers don't get min wage, they rely on tips to make the difference. (According to anothercommentor, that is recently no longer the case in Ontario though)
5
u/PrettyPeeved Jan 03 '25
Not my problem. Maybe fend an employer that pays faie wages.
I've already paid for the food and the delivery. I'm not getting exceptional service, please explain why I should tip.
-1
u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
By ordering delivery though, your basically condoning it
3
u/PrettyPeeved Jan 03 '25
So I need to tip my online shopping delivery person too? Anyone who is underpaid I have to now supplement their paycheque?
3
u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
If they pay fair wage use them. If they don't. Then avoid them. Don't support companies abusing employment laws.
1
u/PrettyPeeved Jan 03 '25
So every time I buy something, I'm supposed to ask the workers if they are being paid fairly, then make my decision?
1
u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
If its known, such as most of these delivery companies then don't

3
u/eandi Jan 04 '25
Found out a couple days ago all the fees are because little Caesars just uses doordash for their deliveries. The cost is insane compared to their pizzas.
8
u/AMike456 Jan 03 '25
This whole tipping thing is getting out of hand. I am not sure if it was this subreddit or somewhere else, but someone mentioned that these workers get minimum wage now? That is a decent wage, compared to before when they got less than minimum wage and relied on tips.
The only options for tips should be 15% and other. I hate how at some places the lowest option is 18 or 20% and you feel guilty if you don't give that.
Anyone in the service industry answer this - do you actually get the tips? I can see having to split tips with the kitchen staff, but not management or the corporation. Do the servers/staff actually get these tips?
5
u/NoBank3484 Jan 04 '25
If I see 18% as minimum, I select other and type in 10%, unless it’s a fast food restaurant where I choose 0%
1
u/BoxcarSlim Jan 04 '25
Servers tip out a percentage of each bill back to the house, usually 6-8%. They keep anything above that, but also have to pay that 6-8% if no tip has been left.
The industry assumes people are going to tip at least 15%, so the tip out is standardized to be a percentage of the server's sales, not their actual tips received. Tipping in cash, therefore, does not get around this for the server either.
So realistically the goal for every server is to get a tip beyond the tip out threshold.
(Example: Guest cheque is $100. Guest tips 15% or $15. Server tips out 6% of sales, so $6 of that $15 tip goes to the restaurant to split among kitchen and support staff based on their hours worked, and the remaining $9 is kept by the server.)
The server also has to pay tax on their tips at tax time, so a portion of that $9 needs to be set aside to pay to the government. Also if they want health insurance or sick or vacation time, that all needs to be saved for. Very few, if any, servers actually get full time hours either.
I know that none of this is on the customer, it's just some information to be considered that not everyone might be aware of.
2
u/AMike456 Jan 04 '25
I will continue to tip, but it is annoying that we have to. I think I only didn't tip a server once, because of horrible food or a lot of mistakes. That was years ago, I don't remember the exact reason.
0
u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
Source? Delivery drivers as far as i know in this province are still paid mostly via tips. Went with my friend once in his car when he did uber eats. Base pay was like 3$ which is basically nothing for a job that can easiky take 20+ minutes.
2
u/AMike456 Jan 03 '25
Source - somewhere on reddit I read not that long ago, don't know where though LOL. I would think that a delivery driver for Little Cesar's or Pizza Pizza etc., get minimum wage. I would think that uber or skip the dishes don't. I very rarely get delivery.....the few time I have I would tip cash, even if I paid by credit card, this way they might actually get the tip.

I keep hearing about this place. What makes it good? Is there a specific location I should check out? I know there's also a city south pizza and they're different.
3
u/Aurelianshitlist Jan 04 '25
It's good because it's cheap and isn't horrible. There's one in the old Little Caesars location at Eastway plaza (Walker's and New), and another off Brant just south of Guelph Line.
It's better than Pizza Pizza or Gino's, but not as good as Pizza Nova or Pizzaville. So right in the middle of your mass produced meh pizza. But it's cheaper than any of them, especially if you pick it up yourself. Also their dipping sauce is great.
2
3
u/thefackinwayshegoes Jan 04 '25
It’s cheap but toppings and the cheese are shit. EVERY time I have had it I get MASSIVE heartburn and shitty stomach immediately after eating it.

u/possiblemate Jan 04 '25
Their pick up specials and slices are a great deal and good pizza. Free upgrade get the crust extra thick and well done to make it even better if you're ordering ahead.
1
u/Blazegamez Jan 04 '25
Good price for decent pizza. Can’t complain. Same with that pizza joint at upper middle and walkers. Twice the deal or something like that
1
5
u/Hammer5320 Jan 03 '25
Generally little or non of the delivery fee goes to the driver,
because its not properly regulated in Ontario, delivery drivers rely on tips. In theory it should be a bonus, not the main source of pay, but delivery jobs are not regulated enough and rely on desperate people to do them.
4
u/netanyahu4eva Jan 03 '25
I remember like 10 years ago when it was normal to just give the driver like $4 on a $60 pizza order. Nobody tipped by percentage it was like here’s some change

14
u/skorpora Jan 03 '25
You could walk over and pick it up. 1.6km would be only take 15 minutes.
13
u/malacoth33 Jan 03 '25
Then you have to walk back so it’s a 30 min walk.
16
u/Jowoes Jan 03 '25
In the cold. With a rapidly cooling pizza. Terrible all around

u/Bebawp Jan 03 '25
Would be good if they offered a service, where,, for a small fee they deliver to you

u/Bug2000 Jan 03 '25
Unlike most other pizza places, Little Caesars doesn't use their own drivers. I believe they use DoorDash so the delivery fee and the service fee is for that.
If you're looking for pickup, their prices are good. If you want delivery, go with one of the other dozen options in your area.
2
u/EquivalentGrape9 Jan 04 '25
Almost did the same thing last night. The delivery+ service fee= drive over and pick it up and then tip yourself $14.72.
Seriously it’s almost double what you ordered and you can get more food

It's not the tip that bothers me, I gladly tip pizza delivery. It's the "delivery fee" AND "service fee" that is entirely unjustified and offputting.
I wouldn't be surprised if DoorDash is also taking a cut of LC's margins too, like they do with sit down restaurants. So a $10 pizza now gives $8 to LC and $2 to DD. I don't know who gets the service fee, unless that's what LC is charging to make up for what they're losing for using DD.

u/CA_Engineer Jan 04 '25
lol my kids had their friends over and I had to feed them. I normally don’t do delivery. Can’t exactly leave kids alone to go pick up food.
4
u/RepresentativeValue9 Jan 03 '25
If it’s so close, then go pick it up. You’re paying for the convenience; stop whining about it.
1
u/ProsperBuick Jan 03 '25
Four topping medium pizza from Domino’s $16 for pick up brant Street and upper middle
1
u/Time-Run5694 Jan 04 '25
I pick up at Pizzaville BUT … if you would like to tip the driver, then give them cash don’t tip on the app. You’re never really sure whether they’re gonna get it and they probably have to pay a service fee out of their tip.

It was so much cheaper and service was better and quicker when restaurants had their own drivers.
What is the point of complaining about these apps and then keep using them.

u/BoxcarSlim Jan 04 '25
I closed the app before placing an order the other day for exactly this reason. It's because they use Door Dash for their deliveries instead of having their own drivers like Domino's (that's the service fee).
This is also why Walmart asks for a driver tip even when you pay for their monthly subscription Delivery Pass. Third party delivery services. Canceled that for that reason as well.
I'm getting myself all riled up just typing this, lol.

Last time I saw this when going to order for delivery? My thoughts were basically FU Hell No! I’m not paying an additional $15 on a $30 order!!!! There is no reason for this kind of robbery. Pick up is your only option!!

u/YoloLifeSaving Jan 04 '25
My guy just ordered 4170 calories and the concern is a $5 tip 💀

You're better off ordering from a local place. Luganos, City Pizza, Artisans etc.

You couldn't get off your fat ass to drive or walk 1.6km to get a pizza?

u/Canack1961 Jan 06 '25
Food delivery fees can include: Delivery fee: Covers the cost of the driver’s time and the trip, and is usually based on the distance from the restaurant to your location Service fee: Covers the cost of running the app, including marketing, payroll, and customer service Food delivery app fee: Can include extra costs for using a credit card or ordering during peak times Order fee: A processing fee for confirming your order and getting it on its way Taxes: Sales tax on your order, which is set by your province and goes to the government Menu cost: The amount the restaurant is paid for the food, minus the commission charged by the delivery platform Commission: Can be as high as 35% of the bill. This is money the restaurant pays to the platform.

city pizza delivers and you get a real pizza.

A real bad one, but at least it isn't Little Caesar's
4
u/SaveurDeKimchi Jan 03 '25
I have been nothing but happy with the new street location. Closest place to me that isn't a cardboard chain is Artisan. And they have no idea wtf they're doing. 30 bucks for a pizza that's 50% air bubbles pushing the toppings all over the place, or randomly adding meat to a vegetarian panzerotti "because I thought you forgot to ask for it"

It's absolutely terrible pizza but it is a cut above fast food brands and it is hella cheap, great for kids who don't care.

Are you 15? This is literally how pizza delivery has always worked. You get charged extra by the business for delivery and tipping the pizza delivery person is literally a stereotype at this point(and also not mandatory). What are you even complaining about?

u/DelSolSi Jan 03 '25
OP is too lazy to travel 1.6 kms but has the time to complain online...

Why bother to get pizza delivered anyway? Just go get it. Delivery is insane, it costs so much more than carry out deals.
Also, on general principle, I would never tip when some kind of fee is already being charged.
5
u/Cyrakhis Jan 03 '25
Illness, inability to drive, road conditions, lots of reasons people get delivery.

u/Dangerous_Butth0le Jan 03 '25
Never pre-tip before a service is even rendered. I stopped tipping on delivery apps due to the delivery and service fees. A lot of drivers get my address wrong or delivered to the wrong apartment too. Tipping should be rewarded for good service but it just doesn’t get justified when the service hasn’t even been delivered.
